Who's the one really making this??????????? How can Zenimax make a game based on the Elder Scrolls. Does'nt Bethesda own the rights to it? Or am I missing something here.

To clarify, Bethesda Game Studios, Zenimax Online Studios, Arkane Studios, id Software and Tango Gameworks are all wholly owned subsidiaries of Zenimax Media, Inc., which publishes through Bethesda Softworks.

Each of these studios has their own independent culture and vision, but they are part of the same family. ZOS is a relatively new studio and this is their first game, so they don't have a historical track record of previous games to compare with. However, we know that the head of ZOS, Matt Firor, was previously responsible for producing Dark Age of Camelot.

It just seems wrong for any game with the words elder scrolls attached to it not to be Bethesda behind it. Does'nt Bethesda worry it might not turn out good, and put a bad taste in everyones mouth.

Well, yes, they've been working very hard on this project since 2007, with the goal being to make a great game.

Zenimax=Bethesda

So your saying it will be the same dev's that made all of the other Elder scroll games? Not some other dev team that has not worked on these games.

They are different teams, but they are ultimately part of the same company.

Bethesda Game Studios and Zenimax Online Studios are two different divisions of Zenimax Media Inc., which is the parent company.

No I'm not saying it's the exact same studio.

We don't know the make up of the Zenimax Online team as far as I know but it's not like Fallout NV where it was handed to a completely different studio... They are under the same banner and as it seems Zenimax Online was made purely for the creation of TES:O I would be surprised if there wasn't any former BGS members within it.

Plus Zenimax and Bethesda are very intertwined, Zenimax Media was created after Bethesda by Bethesda employees which what I was referencing in my previous post.

No, he's saying he completely ignored BootySweat's post earlier about how Zenimax Online Studios is a new team and not directly associated with Bethesda Game Studios.

And when I say that I mean the team that makes Fallout and the Single player Elder Scrolls?

Basically, will this be the death of the amazing single player games that Bethesda makes, or not?

Do note that the studios under the Zenimax umbrella, though separate from each other still talk with each other and Todd Howard said in his DICE 2012 keynote that they meet up to see each others work at least once a year. So ZOS has probably coordinated with BGS about regarding TESO and the future of TES.

But Zenimax Online Studios can come and talk with Bethesda Game Studios and talk with Todd Howard for advice and such, right? Because Todd is the man.

Todd is "the man" for Bethesda Game Studios games. He does not have any say in the development of, say, Dishonored or Doom 4, because he doesn't work the business side of things. He just makes the BGS games.

If anything Todd Howard is not the person to talk to anyway because his experience is strictly in single-player first person action games/action RPGs. He certainly doesn't seem to care about the lore all that much, since he turned Cyrodiil from "Byzantine/Aztec Empire with Roman Aesthetic in the Jungle" to "rennaisance faire" without batting an eye. Leave him out of it.

First off I had to address that Zenimax is the creator of this not Bethesda. I know most of us know that but it seems that more than a few don't.

Anyway what do you think about this? Honeslty nothing against Beth but with how buggy they release their games i'd be lying if I said I wouldn't be worried about a huge mmo. So Zenimax has my vote, well see what happens.

I honestly would prefer a mmo made by Bethesda studios. It would look more like the single player series. This one looks strange.

Apparently he is involved, in the 'Lore' departement, making sure the game doesn't ruin canon.

Impossible because of latency. What you experience in a single player game like Skyrim is NOT possible to have in a MMO, honestly. Not realistic at all.

We already have mobile games without Bethesda behind them and now we'll get MMO. Main series is still in the hands of Bethesda.

ZeniMax would be the parent company in this situation. They own the right to the IP.

They will also, unless by some bizarre act of God, continue to allow Bethesda to make single player games of equal if not better quality after Skyrim.

This MMO will do absolutely nothing major to the Elder Scrolls.

As topic.

Very mixed feelings about this announcement.

On one hand, i am happy that we would be able to finally see the whole of Tamriel in a single game,
and possibilities of seeing Akavir, or even Atmora in future expansion packs.

However, the MAIN FEAR i have now is...does this spell the end of the Elder Scrolls Single Player Franchise?
Will there no longer be anymore Elder Scrolls 6 in the future?
Please do not give the same Bioware bullcrap about Elder Scrolls Online being Elder Scrolls 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and so on.
World of Warcraft is another example. Because of WoW, Fans of the RTS Warcraft series will never see a Warcraft 4 again.

The essence of an Elder Scrolls game IMO, is for a player to feel like a HERO (or Villian) in a world.
Making it into an MMO trivializes the player, because suddenly, EVERYONE and his mother is the Dovahkiin, Nerevarine etc.

It will transition from a single player game where the story is weaved around the player,
to a world where the only thing that matters is "WHY ARE YOU NOT DOING ENOUGH DPS NOOB????"

One very frightening scenario had already happened when Skyrim was first launched.
On the main skyrim forum, there were fools who were RANTING about NOT ENOUGH DPS .... IN A SINGLE PLAYER GAME!!!
Imagine what will happen if the MMORPG releases...

Another important aspect of the Elder Scrolls series (at least from Morrowind onwards) that Bethesda should NOT overlook
is the support of the wonderful MODDING Community.
It was MODS that made people still play Morrowind till this very day 10 years after its first release.
An online Elder Scrolls will DESTROY this fantastic community that the franchise took so long to build up.

Please Bethesda. PLEASE RE-CONSIDER your decision to release this.
MMORPGs are very dangerous and volatile territory where success is measured ONLY if you are able to beat WoW.

PLEASE RE-CONSIDER your decision i beg of you.

What?

Zenimax is making the game, not Bethesda. And... no. They're going to continue to Elder Scrolls VI (probably). The MMO isn't going to stop them.

No, it doesn't mean the end at all. Bethesda Game Studios will continue to make Elder Scrolls single player experiences, just like they always have. While Elder Scrolls Online is being developed by Zenimax Online Studios.
