1994 vs. 2011

If they released skyrim with 1994 graphics I guarantee you wouldn't buy it.

There are some graphical features that actually make Minecraft Graphics quite the accomplishment. But those are mostly associated with draw distance.

Let's all brag about how much we prefer good gameplay over graphics and how much more learned/intelligent we are than the stupid proletariat that play modern games.

Nothing like self-justification...

I don't see much of a difference... :whistling:

Don't be daft - it's obvious!

Much better UI back then. :celebration:

Graphics do not make the game.
But they sure do increase the enjoyment I get out of them.

Personally, I've always enjoyed the combat in TES. Maybe I'm just a weirdo though?

It's not bragging or self justification. And I didn't see anyone getting accused of being less intelligent for not liking older games. It's called a personnal preference.

Graphics do not make the game.

They make games like The Elder Scrolls, which are played for gameplay rather than story.

A sizeable chunk of the story is told by graphics.

Your obviously a modern gamer (no offense)
graphics don't make the game at all, story and gameplay is what's important.

I disagree. I've been playing video games since the good ole NES days. ANd I can say that once I got a taste of these modern graphics, I cannot go back. Of course, if the storyline is sub par then the game will still be [censored]e. For me, Crysis 2 was gorgeous, but for some reason I just could not get into the story and it totally ruined the experience for me. But, on the other hand, if the graphics svck totally then I cant play it, no matter how good the story is. But of course if the graphics are just okay, like Dragons Age, but has a great story I can play it.

Great graphics help to tell the story. Graphics can totally immerse you in the environment and enhance a great story.

Just my two cents.

I still prefer Morrowinds art design to Oblivions and even Skyrim. Art design creates the setting which is what people play the Elder Scrolls game for.

Agreed. It's was completely unnecessary to point out the whole "generation" thing. It creates a "my generation has better taste than yours" attitude

That I can agree with. Skyrim looks pretty good to me so far, but Oblivions design was kind of bad compared to Morrowinds and didn't seem to fit in with lore very well...

If, as people say, graphics aren't important. What is with the thousands of threads regarding textures with people raging saying they're taking their game back?

Yeah.

My only requirement for graphics is that they communicate what is going on. And there are other ways to communicate what is going on, so long as the action is being effectively communicated I'm good.

graphics are a huge thing to me i dont buy games with crappy graphics but if it was skyrim ehh i still would butt graphics in skyrim rock
I have yet to see any butt graphics in this game.

Who are you to tell me what I would and wouldn't get? Yeah, great graphics are awesome. But I'd rather play a story with an epic plotline and gameplay with [censored] graphics than a game with epic graphics but [censored] story/gameplay.
That opinion is invalid in arguments like these, because Elder Scrolls games don't have crappy stories and gameplay.

I feel art style is more important than graphics. Even with all of Skyrims texture bugs the game still looks amazing because of the art direction, the game does still have nice graphics though.

I really don't understand all these people who are saying that GRAPHICS would make or break whether Skyrim was successful ...

Have none of you heard of MINECRAFT before? It looks like TESI: Arena ... yet ... a ton of people play it.

Not saying that Skyrim's art design is bad, I just feel that Morrowind did a better job of communicating the setting with its art that Skyrim. Skyrim, while beautiful, looks very much like a generic medieval fantasy world with snow on top of it.

Exactly. Aesthetics are WAY more important then graphics. Graphics are just shading and rendering. Aesthetics are how well the creatures, buildings, basically everything fits in with the scenery, and everything else. The atmosphere is incredibly important in games as well.

Graphics aren't worth a penny if the aesthetics and atmosphere aren't good.

I think there is a minimum of how good the graphics need to be though. Sometimes the graphics need to be good enough to give the art style justice.

Consistency is also VERY important when it comes to graphics, nothing I hate more (graphics wise) than having a massively detailed door then a low-res wall surrounding it.
