advlt Gamers Are Weird

Post » Thu Jul 21, 2011 9:27 am

Folks neglect to mention that X-Box has become all the rave at some senior citizen homes across this vast nation... Wii too. It helps with their motor skills and keeps their minds as sharp as possible, nevermind the laughing they might do amongst fellow citizens who share the same sentiment. All in all, wierd is weird... weird is something that is unfamiliar to you. Doesn't mean it's bad... just wierd.

I guess watching TV is much better then.

Thoughts?
Watching tv affects ones ability to be weird...

The Today Show is weird says this advlt gamer.
but, you're cute weird :)

Pfft, you all are weird, not only do you play games you come onto the interwebz and talk about them, get a life!
you sir, have a weird 'stach, that should be back in fashion

Is Kathy Lee Gifford even relevant anymore?
In a weird sort of way, yes, she is.

Meh. I don't even know who these people are, I couldn't care less what they consider normal.
sokay dear, those mean people weren't talking about you. you're wonderful. :)

The people that say that kind of stuff didn't have video games as a kid, so that's why they think advlts playing video games is weird, yet watching TV and movies is normal. In 50 years we'll have grandparents playing video games..
I think Summer may have something to say on that matter..

I'm weird?

Okay.

I just hope they don't find out I watch My Little Pony too.
Weird, in a caring, in-touch-with-ones-feminine-side-without-trading-down-ones-maculinity sort of way :D

Well, I have been weird for years..,
yes dear, we know. And we're so proud of you for it :hugs:

Me?

Weird??

Dunno, but I know this real hokerr who lives down the road, and is trying to teach his chickens to sing opera, I'll ask him.

Playing casually I don't see as a problem for any age, but for those who are older and thats their life, I see that as a little odd.

Not any more odd than a father obsessed with football, watching every game, and spending hundreds of $ on tickets and merchandise.

Exactly.

If someone is completely obsessed with Video Games, that might be weird at any age. And someone completely obsessed with Football or anything might be weird -- at any age.

But a casual video gamer, or even a video game enthusiast seems perfectly reasonable at any age. At any age at all. In fact it could be very healthy. Why try to denigrate them, that's just mean.

Thank you!!!

This! Exactly this!

I was talking to my brother-in-law who's 38, and his iPad is filled with comics and graphics novels. He said, "I have to buy them on here, as I don't want co-workers seeing me in the break room reading comic books." And what Nami just said was my exact thought at those moments. Spending money on comics, games, figurines (Warhammer for instance), and memorizing rules, story line's, gameplay tactics, etc, is no different than someone who sits down and watches sports, memorizes jersey numbers to the players name, learns the plays, or goes out and plays/purchases tickets to games often.

I am only 23 and although legally an advlt I don't feel like one, at least not all the time

If playing games from time to time makes me wierd then so be it :celebration:, I think it's wierd people watch reality programmes for entertainment. Who really gives a [censored] what Kim Kardashian (spelling) is doing. If your life is that empty you need to follow someone elses, then I consider you to be wierd.

By the way, is anyone here striving to be "non-weird" and "normal" like Kathie Lee Gifford?

Show of hands please.

Really?

Here's one.

This is a site 'dedicated to games'... sure it is.

As I've over heard one person say in the tram last time I was in amsterdam, this is nothing more than a sick, twisted unholy gathering of grown ups and underage children all part taking in fantasy role play

-the lady was talking on the phone about fantasy RPGs, didn't mention Beth in name, but made mention of those kinds of forums, in that kind of a tone.. uh-huh..

to some, we're nothing more than sixual predators, trying to corrupt innocent minds online.

All I could think of was

"innocent minds?? Has she met these kids?!?"

to the kids innocent minds here.., stay froody, keep noodling and always question authority, before the authorities starts questioning you.

My god....she's right. She must be. She had hundreds of examples showing very strange creepy dads in snuggies playing games...

Wait. Playing games isn't the weird part in that sentence...

And this sort of attitude is the reason we in Australia dont have an R18+ rating. <_<

Every single time ignorant people who've wormed their way onto television say something like that I cringe. The average gamer is in their 30's, get used to it. Games arn't just for little kids anymore and its about time mainstream media acknowledge games as an exciting, mature media form.

Anyone watching four hours of television starting at 7am is weird (Xbox), should probably get a job (PS3) and definitely needs a life (Wii)

Yeah, life's about moderation, it can be an obsession like any other. The only difference is that football is more socially acceptable. Its just the way things are, it'll eventually change.
