After playing Skyrim, I can never go back and play...

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 6:03 am

didnt scrapped anything. in fact I started Dragon Age: Origins again. Like a few posters already stated Skyrim is a pretty good open world game but is has no chance against Dragon Age`s storytelling and character depth. It simply wakes emotions when your a getting betrayed by your own brother and so on.
I think Skyrim`s biggest strength is also its biggest weakness. Skyrim lets you create a character exactly how you want, the downside is that the world doesnt react to you as it should. A point which games like Dragon Age are simply doing better.
but i will return to Skyrim when the CK is out and fantastic mods like Midas magic are more fleshed out

First, I think its all about different taste in fantasy rpgs. Some likes Skyrim. Others like Dragon age, Baldurs gate or Final Fantasy. I can understand that DA:O is considered one of the best rpgs ever. It's full of choices and consequences and has a complicated and well thought out combat system. I get that, but I simply doesn't like the style. It's too cliche and too little free-roaming for my taste when I'm playing a fantasy game. I need to go wherever I want in first person and have this huge map and lots of quests. Dragon Age may be full of choices and emotional depth, but that doesn't cut it for me. I don't need a preselected character, I want to make my own story. So maybe there actually are more choices in Skyrim just on another level. The dialogue options nay not be on a Bioware level, but the choice to go wherever I want in Skyrim is unmatched in the gaming world. So if the rumors are true and Bioware is looking to Bethesda for ideas to create a more open world feel, I may play a Dragon Age game from start to finish.

Anyway, I'm straying from the subject here. Going all off-topic. I don't have Morrowind right now but I may play it in the future. The game is still a masterpiece. The problem it takes a lot of my time if I decide to play it again. We'll see. Oblivion on the other hand am I a bit fed up with. Still a good game, but I tried to do the Thieves guild storyline, but it felt like grinding. The quests seem quite diverse and follows a good storyline but I don't really feel like playing it anymore. I can get the lore from other places.
But the surprising thing is while playing Skyrim I suddenly wanted to play some retro game like Kings Quest, Space quest, the Myst games(a puzzle game series which I love deeply), Zork and Battlezone I and II(from the 90s, fps action strategy game. Highly underrated. BZ1 is free to download). When I get tired of Skyrim, I play one of these games and having a grand time. Some of the older games are really fun to play. You guys should really try out the Myst games. Especially Riven, the second Myst game. Great puzzle that makes your braincells work a bit harder and extraordinarily satisfying when you figure out the puzzles

Well take the intro of the game, lable your charter "All Other RPGS", & then procede with them actually beheading you. That should sum it up.

But on topic, for me I can not even play N.V., not even dead is dead & I love that. Now I'm just waiting for the DLC as well as Fallout 4.

I uninstalled FO3, FO:NV, DA:O and the Witcher 2 because I will never play them again after Skyrim.

Heh I formatted the PC to clear it of "crap that filled the gap while I waited to begin the adventure of my life in the land of skyrim"

Now there is only Skyrim, Nexus manager, my music, 20 GB of saves and hopefully soon, the Construction Set.

I get what you are saying and I agree with you but the thing that REALLY bothers me is that your character simply doesnt get the treatment and respect he deserves. I mean i dont want to get treated like dirt or a nobody when im a level 40 master mage who is also arch-mage and saved the world. that is the only gripe i have about the elder scrolls games, there isnt enough acknowledgment of your actions
I still like the elder scrolls games though. I have over 500 hours in Oblivion and also in morrowind. Its just that little gripe I have about the series.

Dragon Age (I or II...I could barely play II anyways, I kept tripping over cliches)
Oblivion (sorry...I did enjoy it, but if I wanted good game retro I'd go further back)
Fable (I hated the game anyways, but Skyrim wrecked it for my wife)

What games has Skyrim permanently scrapped for you?
It took me away from Modern Warfare 3 and Bf3 but it was worth it!

Skyrim didn't wreck any games for me.

Games I enjoyed may play again. Like Oblivion, Fallout 3, Morrowind, Mass Effect, Dragons Age, etc.

I'm not tired of Skyrim yet. But when I do, I'll likely go back to some favorites.

Skyrim hasn't ruined any other games for me, but I haven't played anything else since I bought it. 300+ hours later, I'm still not tired of Skyrim, nor am I worried about playing another game for now.

All other TES games. It's much superior to Oblivion IMO, and its gameplay is worlds better than Morrowind.

But certainly not all other RPGs. Mainly because in my RPGs, I look for good writing, choices/consequences, and memorable characters. Skyrim tries very hard, and it looks very pretty, but ultimately I'm one of those gamers who likes a lot of depth in his RPGs, and Skyrim just doesn't provide that.

And I'll admit that wrestling with the UI isn't fun either.

I can still play Oblivion and Morrowind. I'll always be able to play those games. The graphics drop off to Morrowind is disheartening, but the depth more than makes up for it. I can also still play Fallout 3, because it is still Oblivion with guns and fun to play. I have yet to play Fallout NV...maybe one day when I need a change of pace from Skyrim. the game that has suffered the most for me since getting Skyrim for Christmas is WoW. My brother got me hooked, and now he is whining because I am never on anymore....

Tried playing oblivion. AGAIN... didn't work. felt like my archer only had the strength to send his arrow 10ft. Oh yeah! and my male character walks like a female, yeah not good for the whole immersion thing. Save the Empire? I hate the Empire! Eff you Uriel, I AM NOT the one from your dreams.

All other RPG's besides the Dragon Warrior series for the original Nintendo. I dunno why but those games got me from the first time I played them. And since they are so old, they are sooooo different from Skyrim that it doesn't ruin it for me.

To each his own, I started a new character in Oblivion last night and had a blast. Dragon Age on the other hand can go DIAF.

I have a similar issue, except kinda sorta the other way around but not really.

Lol. This gets my vote for quote of the week.

Now about the thread... it hasn't really ruined much for me, although I wasn't really that immersed in any specific game anyways. This is the first real solo player that I have played in years. I wish I would have started playing this series when it started.

I'm having a problem going back to L.A Noire to even finish the game.

With dual wielding, I don't even think I've scratched the surface when it comes to making that 'perfect' build yet. Character build has always come primarily for me in any RPG, I've easily spent the last 100 hours just trying out different combinations of perks/armor/weapons/spells.

Oblivion or any Fallout game. I bought NV a few weeks ago and quit an hour later Skyrim is just so much better i can't play them. I still play Dragon Age 1 and 2 and Mass Effect.

For me Oblivion is done. I think that is about it. I will still go back once or twice a year to Baldur's Gate 2 and Icewind Dale. I will also eventually start again with Dragon Age (though this could take some time). I started Morrowind just that weekend again. So no, Skyrim is very good and I enjoy it (especially with some mods), but apart from Oblivion I don't think it made other games obsolete. I dod not try Fallout though...oh well, time will tell.

Oh, and I will never give up Geralt!

I find it really hard to go back to Oblivion now. I still play it on occasion but it really isn't the same anymore. Morrowind however, I still play and love.

This. I don't even look at Oblivion any more, really no reason to. Morrowind bff <3

Skyrim hasn't scrapped any of my games. I love the game but it isn't Akatosh's gift to video games -especially not RPGs-. I would say that games like Dragon Age, New Vegas, Witcher 1&2, Mass Effect and Kotor would be more likely to turn me away from Skyrim than the other way around.

I'm with the people that say Skyrim ruined skyrim, with it dumbed down quests linear play and shallow story and characters. IT will be forgotten when the next new game comes along.

Skyrim and Oblivion pretty much wrecked any other RPG's for me as well. I may not like all the pathetic clothing designs found in Skyrim but it's still a superior game even to both dragon ages which coincedentally have been using terms and names found in the Elder Scrolls series. The only other game that has held my attention for a length of time is Saints Row 2

I got Skyrim day one. I got Rage, FO:NV, some others for Xmas. Haven't played more than a few minutes of any of them (or anything else). Ruined? I don't know about ruined, but I'm definitely WAY more into playing Skyrim than anything else ATM. We'll see what happens in March when ME3 and Witcher 2 hit Xbox.

I'll go back and play other rpgs, like Dragon Age, at some point. Though, that won't be until after I've spent 400+ hours with my Skyrim character.

I just love the exploration and atmosphere in the Elder Scrolls games over other rpgs that rely so heavily on the story. I like to feel as if my character is an extension of myself in a fantasy world and I'm not simply turning the pages in a book, moving my character from point A to point B.
