After playing Skyrim, I can never go back and play...

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 5:57 am

Dragon Age (I or II...I could barely play II anyways, I kept tripping over cliches)
Oblivion (sorry...I did enjoy it, but if I wanted good game retro I'd go further back)
Fable (I hated the game anyways, but Skyrim wrecked it for my wife)

Skyrim wrecked all other RPGs for me. Despite a few quirks, it has all the elements I've always wanted in an RPG since I first played the Quest for Glory series and Morrowind.

I always assumed Skyrim would ruin Oblivion for me, so I knew it was unlikely I'd play Oblivion again. However, I tried playing Fallout NV the other night, and I only managed about five minutes. I'm not even sure why...

I find it really hard to go back to Oblivion now. I still play it on occasion but it really isn't the same anymore. Morrowind however, I still play and love.

Skyrim and Dragon Age aren't really even the same categories for me. The both focus on completely different gameplay. While I love Skyrim as an exploration action adventure game, its really not much of an RPG where your choices mean anything. There really has been nothing like DA:Origins as far as NPC character depth.

Anything else than Chrono Trigger, the Pokemon games, Red Alert 2 and any other Bethesda game.

I still find FF XII the best RPG (and game in general) I've ever played... well, Skyrim still is an awesome sandbox adventure game, but not a good enough RPG for my taste...

Vanilla Skyrim, or even Skyrim fully modded at the moment.

It'll take some damn good DLC & serious CK mods to spark interest.

Thou Shalt Not Have Any Games Before Skyrim

Seriously though... It actually (gasp!) wrecked morrowind for me. Oblivion I still enjoy (kind of).
Two worlds is gone (but that game kind of wrecked itself tbh)

I want to want to play NWN2 again...so much good about it and its predecessor...but if I do open it up again, if I'm honest with myself I won't get any more than 20 minutes into it.

I will probably never pick up Dead Rising ever again now. I struggled with how lame that game was to begin with, good for a laugh, but no really good combat engine.

I got Assassin's Creed Revelations before Xmas... Hardly played it. I keeps swapping between Skyrim for my RPG (and yeah, Dragon's Age II is like McDonalds compared to Skyrims High Class Restaurant with all you can eat buffet).

People say it is boring... but you get out of the game what you put into it. It is after all a ROLE PLAYING GAME. Unlike the other games though it really is a wonderful land and huge... I thought that Battlefield had big game arenas but Skyrim beats them. I still haven't found every place in Skyrim (still have uncleared ruins and several black icons on my map.

It actually hasn't ruined anything for me. If anything, it's made me want to play some games more - specifically, Morrowind now that Skyrim has gotten me interested in the lore and Dragon Age because it has everything Skyrim doesn't, though I'm afraid of getting trapped in a loop as Skyrim makes me miss the characters and story of DA and DA makes me miss the gameplay of Skyrim.

Skyrim has not permanently scrapped any game for me at all.

There were many things that dragon Age did right and still does better, like better more emotional, real Followers for instance and a slightly meaner world where race does have a real effect.

Same for The Witcher 1 & 2 which is darker and better in some parts than Skyrim.

Same with every rpg I`ve ever played from Baldur`s Gate onwards.

Skyrim is just an addition to the group, but is in no way the best default game.

Agreed, Skyrim for me is a pretty forgettable RPG.

I tried swtor and hated it. The dialogue was supposed to be the best thing since sliced bread but it was awful. Every time I played it all I could think of was how much better was the voice acting in Skyrim.

I get that feeling too, but then I remind myself of the horrendous combat mechanics and cliff racers...oh, god, the cliff racers! :yuck:
