Any way to allow censored words?

Cursing isnt a necessity of life you know >_>

I dunno, when the hammer hits the thumb hard enough, it certainly seems to be a necessity of life to me :P

Usually thats the point I puff my cheeks and try hard to not curse, which is very hard since I used to curse like a sailor, now I seldom if ever curse

I'm just curious as to how many other people do this: rather than letting the auto-censor have it's way the few times I type a word I know is censored, I usually just type "[censored]" itself instead.

Anyone else do this?

Guilty as charged! I think typing one thing and getting something else is too confounding for my poor brain to manage, so I just go with the flow. Man.

Hmm, maybe they've uncensored that one; I'm sure when I once tried to write cocked it came out as "[censored]ed".

Yeah, the censoring of 'cocked' can make some Fallout fanfics very strange if taken out of context.

These forums have several rules that I feel contribute to their overall civility as a community. The rules are stifling, and sometimes I'd really like to do some of the things they prohibit, but even then I know that the place is better off.

Religion, politics, and swearing.

And to a lesser extent not enabling [img] tags and video embeds.

That would make me die laughing at how it'd look 'Texnshasta quickly [censored]ed his gun'

I just hope you remembered not to leave the ammo clip in

Yeah, but my logic for doing so is the weirdest. "Hmmm, if I use x swear word, and it comes up as [censored], then people might think I was actually using y swear word (a much stronger swear word of course)... I know, if I just type out [censored] then all will be okay!"

It actually does that. I read a fanfic called She Walks Out of the Vault and it had a part like that: "He bent his thumb to [censored] it and Abby had her own pistol out, a 10mm, in her right hand". That was a good fanfic btw.

Ya use 'em if ya wanna talk fancy. Just sprinkle 'em over anything you say and WAMMO! You've got yourself a spicy sentence sandwich.

I curse on the internet in varying amounts depending on how it's received on each website, but I don't really curse in real life. I'm not offended by it, just don't feel the need to do it myself.

Posts like this add no value to the topic, waste post count and make you look stupid. :)
While I am now guilty of also being off topic by responding to you, my question is: Why's that?

This discussion is in the general forum where all kinds of topics are created and they don't have to be related to any Zeni/gamesas game, Zeni/gamesas...or looking at past history anything having to do with games at all. Don't be a downer; cheer up and go buy yourself some Hello Kitty or something! I like Badtz-Maru. :celebration:

And on topic: People should go bug Invision Power to include that feature and maybe the next time the Beth forums get upgraded it'll sneak in without any BGS/Zeni employee/mod knowing about it.

It would require a complete rewrite of the auto-censor. The current system completely replaces it at post -- there is no trace of the censored content anywhere and it's impossible to to tell what was censored. It also doesn't really add any value while causing for more stress on IPBs CMS.

Yeah, I understood that. At least common sense would dictate that's what the server would most likely do in these cases and what would be needed to correct the situation. It was a flippant suggestion for those who hate the auto-censor and want it changed. Personally, I think the censor list just needs to be trimmed up, and it needs to stop pattern matching mid-word as was mentioned before. Oh yeah, and extremely dumb things should get placed on the censor list...like... "inb4lock" and other things like that. :D

Besides, any word can become vulgar if the usage is such that the intent is obvious and that the word replaces one that's censored. (Recognition by context.) :)

One of the reasons I love this forum is that it's so formal compared to other forums. However, I would like to replace the censor tags with word filters. We already have a few. I talked to the mods about this in the mod thread, suggesting to change curse words into "Elder Scrolls" curse words :P.

Yes.

Gstaff, or whoever it is who makes these decisions. Make this happen ASAP!

Yep. I do it mostly to be safe. I don't like typing the swearword itself on this forum just in case I make a typo and end up getting reported for bypassing the autofilter.

Even if I use the Standard Galatic Alphabet?

'fraid so.

Same here. A moderator accidentally bypassing the censor on the public forums would be... awkward.

I have no problem with the censor stuff. It's actually a refreshing change to not see [censored] and [censored] and [censored] everywhere. It also means I can write them without having to think about my language, as the system takes care of it for me. (as it will now :D)
Hmm, but there is a point in the above post, about typos and those naughty no-no's.

The censor is much worse on PS3 text-chat rooms. You can write something in finnish, and it'll think half of the word is a curse in japanese and censor it, which makes you sentence look like O*** ***ossa a***n. try to communicate with your friends like that! :D

I'm not sure if this has always been true: there's been circumstances where formerly censored words have reappeared which indicates that it may be able to do dynamic censoring. I've only ever seen it a couple of times though, and it would seem that mostly it does just store the post-censor text.

"Bum", "bottom", "poo", "Snickers"... I'm quite sure I have no idea about these fabled four-letter words of which you speak!

 I'm reminded of Dilbert's "Phil, Prince of Insufficient Light" who would darn people to heck: it's a bit like being damned to hell only for more minor indiscretions.
