Do any of you like the Thalmor?

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 5:21 pm

I like good thalmor.

See my sig for my definition of "good thalmor".

The Thalmor wish to uncreate the world in some mad scheme to achieve divinity.

That Tiber Septim transcended above their gods by more forward (as opposed to the Thalmor's more backward) methods offends them. That Tiber was a man even moreso.

I have a feeling that Alduin was just the first threat to reality that the Dragonborn will be putting down. I think that Beth may be doing a "story arc" DLC run a la FONV's involving dealing with the Thalmor menace.

By his/her very nature, the Dragonborn is the greatest threat to their plans they will ever know. They just don't know it yet.
Or tell them you worship Talos, and then guards defend you! (IF they hit you first)

Uhm ... no, they're not. They're a mix of the Catholic Church and imperialist England, both of which conquered large swathes of the world and imposed their mores on others, while leaving other aspects of invaded territories largely untouched, e.g. culture. (Also, if you think of High Elves as England, and other Elves as the other territories of the British Isles, it all makes sense.)

Now, if the Thalmor were trying to assimilate other peoples, they'd be based on the French.

And if they were fascist and genocidal (as opposed to imperialistic and militaristic), they'd be Nazis.

The Nord Stormcloaks are the Nazis.

Thalmor = Nazi Germany
Stormcloaks = NSB (Dutch political party in favour of Nazi Germany)

They are fun to hate. And behead. Their robes are neat.

Delphine is the character I hate most, though.

I do kinda like them its nice to have a enemy that isn't a mindless orc rabble or some evil force like say darkspawn etc but a race that is commonly in fantasy quite peaceful beings.

However in the game I rp as an Altmer who was once a Thalmor soldier but was hunted by them for questioning a order. Now whenever she spots a patrol she finds a good ambush spot and picks them off with arrows and failing that smashes their heads in with a mace .

I'm also the other way round from most people on here in that I don't really find the robes that cool however I love the fact that the two other elves look badass imo in the their elven armour. However I would find it interesting if we could join them - perhaps dlc might remedy this

*tries to look innocent* oh yes of course I like the Thalmor and I know nothing about all those strange werewolf attacks that seem to be targeting Thalmor partols. I’m sure it’s just a run of bad luck.

Anyway, the robes are pretty awesome but no I don’t “like” the Thalmor. You’re not suppose to like them. They are racist [censored] who want to take over the world, there really isn’t any grey in that. They aren’t even good to their own people, tho they would think they are.As a villain...they are alright tho I odn't really find them all that interesting.

I like the Thalmor too.

I think part of the reason why is because there's no attempt to portray them as anything but a bunch of psychopath monsters. In real life, you have some seriously twisted monsters who have managed to do some unconscionable things - it's nice to see the "Black" end of the Gray vs. Gray universe of Skyrim show up on occasion. Yeah, obviously they're based on Nazis but so are Daleks/Zeons/Section 31/The Enclave (Fallout 2 only) and god knows how many other villainous groups in fiction. That doesn't mean people can't like them - the Dark Brotherhood is a murder cult for heavens sake.

Really, if people made a DLC where you could join the Thalmor and wipe out creation, I'm sure people would complain if you couldn't kill the Thalmor gods so you could rule over an empty void.

Myself included.

I don't mind them, can't hate them they know how to get stuff done, I don't particularly agree with their beliefs nor would I like to help with their intended goals. I can respect them for what they are though , sure.

All in all I like them.

I like to hate them, but i'd also would have a lot of fun being an evil high elf mage for some thalmor faction quests.

I don't kill them myself, as one woman in Whiterun said- few bad apples infest them all. But the question is silly considering the information we are told. it's like asking "do you think it's cool that Alduin wants to destroy the world and feast upon your flesh?" :P

Thalmor are not based on Nazis, and I would leave real-world politics and Elder Scrolls well alone.

I would like the Dominion if it was an actual empire that had benefits instead of a group psychopaths that want to destroy the world. Hopefully the Thalmor will become a somewhat respectable yet Elf-favoured government. Like an Elven version of the empire with all the cultural differences a High Elf government would bring (greater respect for magic, some discrimination of humans/ beast races/ orsimer/ dunmer, an upper class consisting mostly of altmer ,slavery, more lore on Alinor and the elves in general, etc).

Just a short while ago, my mage character got attacked by the second 3-men Thalmor hit squad. I killed the first team a few days ago, and now another one.

They really want the girl dead. What's interesting is, that I had no idea the first time till after I killed that team why they attacked me, and searched their bodies. I found a note explaining I had done some nasty deeds, was very dangerous, and knew how to take care of myself. I thought they'd stop after I killed the first team, but not yet. I guess I'll see some more, but figure at some time they have to stop sending out and losing these assassination teams. Thye're going to run out of people.

I did a questline in their main city/town and really made some of them mad at me, I guess.

@http://www.gamesas.com/user/538431-osheao/ - I've killed six now - there's never anyone around because they track me down out in the wilderness - and since they attack first, I have not had a bounty on my head.

I'm an Imperial legate.
And I send odahviing after them and slaughter them.
Its time the "The empire strikes back!"
Pun not intended.

EDIT: Btw people, I don't seem to get a bounty for killing them, even infront of guards, they help me :P

That's a tough one. As you can tell by my icon, I love those robes. Their goals? Well, that depends if they really want to destroy all the towers to destroy Nirn, sending everyone to that big pre existence (Really bad summary there), then I hate that. If there are aiming for world domination? Eh, still hate that, just not as much. Typically, I just let the patrols pass by. Funny thing is, most of Named Thalmor I have met, I really like.

In short, I don't know

I play an High Elf pure Mage who is a Daedra worshiper. He overall doesn't mind the Thalmor and has joined the Stormcloaks to help them.... he sees it as helping pull apart the Empire from within. He views men as more of a 'beast race' and agrees that Talos might be a 'demi-god' but definitely isn't among the true realms of divinity. He also believes the High Elves can reclaim divinity. He's not sure about the tainted ones (Wood, Dark.... he considers Falmer to be worthy only of slaughter along with the Dwemer if they ever return).
So despite the fact that Talo's shrines grant you a blessing specifically targeted at your shouting abilities you can deny that he's one of the divines? Of course the Thalmor may execute you as being dragonborn you give some creedence to Talo's divinity.
