Anyone Else Agree That The Armour in Skyrim needs to be Redo

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 6:57 am

After getting my Smithing up to level 100 on the Skill Tree I found that the Dragon Armour didnt live up to Expextations. Tbh I thought that the Daedric Armour should have been 100 instead of Dragon Armour. also the Ebony, Orcish, and Glass were letdowns. Besides the bad Armour Skyrim is the all time best game.

Anyone else agree??

I admit, I was not impressed with either of the Dragonbone sets. I took the perk once, just to see what it looked like. I saved before and I am glad I did. It didn't take me long to decide to reload and spend that perk elsewhere. It just screams "Flintstones"...not good at all.

The others are fantastic. I think the ebony and Daedric are amazing.

Redone? Not really. That will never happen anyway. Additional? Yes. I would welcome that and is almost a certainty that THAT will happen.

Not redone but fine tuned.

Some of the fur armours would be better with a cloak. Running around the frozen tundra bare chested in a local Nord armor which is little more than a fur kilt seems daft. I can understand the Forsworn as they are only in the warmer south west Reach (that and Bretons are more like Celts who did run around semi clad). A majority of the helmets look a bit silly in a few people opinion (including mine).

Some of armors need to be a bit less alien looking. I personally think the Daedric armor in Skyrim looks like the alien out of the film Predator and I refuse to where it.

We definitely need more race specific armors and clothing. Armor or clothing suited to Khajiit & Argonian would be nice. I think the armor of a race should reflect upon their racial stats. i.e. a Altmer, Breton & Redguard are racially gifted towards alteration so would be best suited to clothes whereas a Dunmer, Bosmer or Khajiit are gifted towards light armor so it makes sense their racial armor would be light.

I think the armors look a lot more realistic in this Elder Scrolls game, compared to some in the past. What's funny is, I don't play for THAT level of realism- I expect magical armor to be able to do impossible things.

I bet we'll see a lot more armor and clothing choices in the expansion though. That's been the trend in these games.

shouldn't it be magical robes? Many armors users in TES don't like or fear magic.

I hate the perk that makes Heavy armour weightless.
It makes light armour completely useless from a gameplay perspective.
Seriously, it needs to go, or be replaced with one that makes heavy armour weigh half as much.

Oh, and If Beth decides to release a balance patch after they fix the major bugs (which I highly doubt),
they should tone down smithing too. It's absolutely ridiculous that you can improve basically any armour over the armour cap without using overenchanted gloves and such.

Can unimproved light armour, if fully perked, reach the armour cap? If so then that kinda renders heavy armour pointless too...

Are you talking about the appearance? None of the higher level armours look particularly practical... But it is a fantasy game.

Then they should have to suffer with the realistic armor choices in Skyrim :)

I don't think so, but improved can.

What I don't like is that it doesn't even matter what kind of armour you're using anymore, it's basically the same deal.
(Note to Bethesda: That doesn't mean they are redundant skills you should axe in your next TES game.)

What would you change about it? The stats? The looks? The requirements?

I agree daedric should be the most difficult one to smith. I'd love to see daedric light armor - I know it's usually made from ebony, but do we have any proof that lighter materials cannot be infused with daedric souls? If it's possible, it would be great.
Of course, I'd also like to see more variations of high-level armor. I don't like the way elven or glass look, the only good-looking armors in the game are the ones that most players use early in the game - iron, steel, hide etc. (ebony being the only exception).

Not necessarily. Look at the daedric artifacts - many of them are armors. Ebony Mail, Savior's Hide, Spellbreaker, Lord's Mail...
Also, battlemages wear armor and nobody can say they don't like magic

Unimproved? I don't think so. But if you smith your own armor (meaning you have the appropriate perk), then why not improve it?
Also, every armor in the game can reach the armor cap with the right combination of perks in Smithing and Light/Heavy Armor.

This.

I love the way the armor looks in the game, but I would like just a smidge more options available to craft. Maybe make some variations on Steel and Elven armors for the different races of Mer in the world.

Going by Lore, Bosmer armor had some very noticeable differences from the armor the Altmer typically wore. Also, the Lore states (obscurely mind you) that there were several different types of steel armor available due to the different crafting methods by the various Nord clans in Skyrim, and the options get even more varied once you take on Imperial influences over the last 600+ years.

There's a whole untapped world of Armor crafting capability out there just ready to be explored.

I predict an 'armour' perk tree, with heavy up one side, and light up the other :D

@uriel: agreed, variations would be nice.

I would change the overall look of the Dragon Armour. I know Bethesda has worked hard on creating a game we love but while there patching the game but they should think about also making the Amours look more Fierce. Glass Armour Ebony and Dragon look like they may have been rushed and not given enough time to finalise the helmates for both Dragon Armour or Glass, and the fact that the Ebony helmet does look like "Alien" from the Alien movies doesnt seem right. The only few Armours i think personly Bethesda have created that make you look Badass is the Nightingale armor, Ancient Nord Armour, Daedric Armour and the Ebony Chainmail you get from a certain mission. The others i think need to change the whole look if I am honest or if the can put a new set of each armour while keeping the orignal like if they gave us a different Ebony Armour to create while still having the orginal Alien looking Ebony Armour people may like.

I think they need to add in multiple versions of every armor, like maybe their past looks from OB and MW. What i wouldnt give to have OB's Daedric Armor... Also they should bring back the armors they removed for no apparent reason like Mithril

And then if you take into account the variations on those armors for the Dunmer, Bretons, Redguards, Khajiit, etc. then you can finally see how detailed we can get with the cultural changes to not only the look, but the function of armor.

Armor changes aren't just cosmetic. The very thickness of the material plus the shape all add or take away critically in the armors ability to defend the body from harm. The aesthetic lends itself to the very function of the armor.

if Bethesda decides to take all of this into account, we could possibly have a staggering amount of armor variations to choose from!

I have a grand idea that Beth should look into. Well you can train your smithing by buying it from Smiths right? Well why not make smithing styles a purchasable service? Maybe a talented Imperial Artificer can teach you how to make Cyrodillic Armors, or a Master Smith from Morrowind can show you how to construct all those badly graphiced suits (JK). That way you wont look like the bandits that are mauling you and it will make the character feel more connected to THEIR culture...and the RP would be sweet

No kidding.

On the copy I have for my laptop, I am currently sporting a wicked alternate set of Daedric armor.

I just wish they'd expand it for the consoles as well. but I'm also happy with the game as it is.

...

Did I just contradict myself? O.o

That's fine but if you know Bethesda then you know they aren't going to modify the armors in the game. May add a new set to two in the expansion but that will be it. Modders have always done this in ES games and that won't change. Sorry you can't do mods on console, but then you knew that when you got the game. Right now I'm running a couple sweet armor mods coupled with a complete body and face retexture which makes Bethesda look sad on their defaults. As it was in Oblivion and Morrowind.
