anyone else feel pretty ripped off?

Obsidian didn't (and isn't ever going to) make Fallout 4.

*sigh*
I meant, Bethesda should take notes on what Obsidian did on Fallout New Vegas for when they decide to start work on Fallout 4.
But I do hope they contact Obsidian for another game after Fallout 4.

Obsidian didn't (and isn't ever going to) make Fallout 4. Obsidian did an amazing job of creating Fallout: New Vegas. Please note a distinct lack of the numeral 4 in that title. Bethesda has already made tentative allusions to creating a Fallout 4 themselves. People can like it or lump it but the truth is that Zenimax (Bethesda) bought the Fallout franchise lock, stock, and barrel. This means that they are the ones who get to tell US what Fallout canon is now. I think they have done a bang-up job of not damaging (or ret-coning) the original story. In fact if you look at it from a slightly different point of view then they are only using the Fallout universe and not the Fallout story at all. It seems to me (and this is just a guess that I was lead to by observation) is that Bethesda is going to be creating the east coast Fallout games with one canonical storyline and that Obsidian (if it remains a viable company, and not all game studios do) will continue the original Fallout canonical storyline on the west coast. They don't cross over and they don't have any effect on one another. It would be a fantastic way to continue an already great franchise.

@Demonhoopa Ghoul Reavers, Albino Radscorpions, Supermutant Overlords and Behemoths. These are still haunting my dreams. Also the building you were referring to is the Dunwich building, not Dumwich. It is a reference to a HP Lovecraft story called "The Dunwich Horror". I highly recommend it...but it doesn't have anything to do with zombies or drilling or underground temples. In fact just read all of the things written by Lovecraft. They wont "scare" you as they were written over a century ago and people are desensitized to anything that isn't tying them to a chair and chopping off bits. You can either take or leave the things written by August Derleth and other Lovecraft contemporaries (read: copycats), they aren't bad at all...just not the original.

Sorry but Albino Rad Scorpions, Overlords and Behemoths are all meat shields for a level 30 Demigod with a Plasma Rifle on steriods, a Fatboy (with 12 mini Nukes in stock), 110 stimpacks, 15 Bottlecap mines and 17 Nuka Cola Grenades and uber action points in VATS with no chance of being injured while using it.

Kind of tough NOT being a demigod huh?

I do hope you are not laughing at a members opinion because it's flaming and not very funny.

That said, I get what he means and it isn't about "not being demigod". The danger is fun but after the danger is gone, give me something besides some tin cans and empty sasperalla bottles. Otherwise why even take the time to look around? I may just as well shoot my way through the whole game and be done with it.

Anyway, there is enough that I like about this game to overlook that absence of desire to explore and I sure don't feel ripped off nor would I if I had payed for this game (:whisper: I got it sent to me for free compliments of Bethesda) but I get what he means. I also don't like the invisible walls being so frequent I like to journey off cross country and not be demanded to follow a path. I dislike the inability to enter so many buildings (also a complaint of mine about FO:3).

And after all these years of seeing it done here, I still don't get why folks would ridicule or argue about what someone else likes in their games. The battle is in the games not with one another. I say let folks enjoy the aspects they enjoy and dislike that they dislike. No skin off of one another's back just to disagree and leave it at that.

Ok I am willing to admit that once you know how the Scorps and Behemoths aren't very tough....but the Overlords....the dang Overlords. They tkae almost no damage from anything and they carry the armor shredding tribeam lazer!

I don't really feel ripped off, tho when I saw the world map I was slightly disappointed with the size of the map. They did a good job on the environment but it's just a little too small. I easily walk from one town to another, maybe a little too easy. The distances aren't really that big, if only they wouldhave made it a little bigger it would have been a lot better, and a lot more realistic I guess. I never really felt lonely or lost in the desert which I was actually hoping to have with this game. The wasteland would have been a lot better if they were much larger, more open spaces and just...idk bigger then they are now.
Also Freeside to me never really felt like a hostile environment. If they would have made that a little bit bigger as well, and a little bit more buildings I could go into I would have liked it a lot better. Also the main quest seems to be kind of short to me? I have no idea how far I actually am in this game but it feels like I'm getting closer to the end and so far the only thing that I've been doing is going from town to town getting one step closer to my goal but not actually accomplishing something. I'm already in Freeside right now and I actually just managed to get access to the strip but I don't want this game to be over yet.
However I must say the game was great from the start, I loved the quests in the beginning up till I got to novac.

Other than that, besides a lot of wining from me lol, I must say that besides all the things they left out they also added a lot of fun stuff that makes the world somehow feel alive more. I love the crowd noises in freeside [only thing is; where's the crowd?] I also love when you go into hotels you can hear the moaning. They added a lot of these small stupid jokes and gameplay elements that I really love. And it's good to have a completely new setting to look at, the desertlike environment. Which is to me a little bit more characteristic than the Fo3 wasteland, which to me looked pretty much the same everywhere. I also love the new vegas setting with all the neon lights, puking npc's and prosttutes [lol]. It's just different than FO3 and I'm not really sure what to think of it, I guess I've been playing FO3 for such a long time that it's good to have something new and fresh like this game eventhough it has so many flaws....

edit: wow that's one hell of a post...lol

I don't feel ripped off, but this game has many bugs and the graphics engine feels very old and static, even in "Ultra" mode - compared to recent games I've played. I want to be impressed, I waited a long time for this game to come out and looked forward to it, but so far I am not.

Maps that have nothing so what, the game has everything it needs to be one of the best games ever. Except one dang thing.

The game engine Its horrible. Sad part can you imagine if this engine ran like say like a Just Cause 2. I mean, has anyone ever played that game. Yea average game, but the worlds are similar to things you would see in some of Bethesda games. And it looks a runs vary well. Now if Fallout3 or New Vegas would of had this were talking game of the decade maybe. But instead a lot of us wont even play it. Their sitting on a gold mine and are just settling for what they have, so long as the public says yes will buy the broken thing. And they do, but how many more would if? What would its legacy be if?

IF JUST CAUSE CAN DO IT ON A HALF AZ GAME ITS TIME TO CHANGE THAT DANG OUTDATED HAVOK CLUNKER.

I grantee this, if this game would of had the engine that ran Just Cuase 2, or something new!!!! It would of been a game that would of been remebered for decades. But they get their check and so?

I'm feeling ripped off not speaking in terms of actual game content but when I'm speaking in terms of performance.
I loved what I played but hated every second of cringe inducing framerate massacring that happens when I enter certain places that contain a surplus of npc's.
I would be okay with this if I did not own a brand spanking new, top of the line, absolutely dominating in games computerthingamajig machine.
Or in hardware terms and i5 760 with 4gb of ddr3 ram and an ATI HD5870.

In terms of videocards this stuff is not even a full generation old [(69XX) still hasn't rolled out right?] , and in terms of a processor bottleneck, honestly, I laugh at the sheer notion of it?
This happens regardless of settings, it happened on low with everything I could turn off in the launcher turned off, in my opinion that's just not justifiable in any way shape or form.

And the only fix is apparently a .dll on a website which bethesda recommends against using

Bromance, try 'verify cache integrity' in the Steam options for the game (on the steam menu itself - i.e. launch steam, then check FNV properties).

I did this today, and 2 files were 'missing' or corrupted...did the download automatically, and I've lost a lot of the loadup delay I was getting and it seems my game is running somewhat more stable as well.

I don't feel ripped off at all. My game works perfectly. A few minor bugs or glitches, but nothing game breaking. I swear it's like every 10 minutes, there is a new post about how you guys got ripped off or how dare Bethesda/Obsidian for putting out a crappy game. If it's that bad for you, then STOP PLAYING.

But for me, I know what to expect from Bethesda, and this game is the best I've played since FO3 and Oblivion. So geez, get a life and stop playing this so called "Broken" game.

Thank you.

I don't feel ripped off at all. I knew from the released videos of game play the graphics were the same. I knew the experience would be very similar. I was intrigued by the notion of better UI and companion options and so far they have been pretty decent. I was intrigued by the hardcoe game mode. I've not tried it yet but I will on my next character and the feedback is good. It doesn't feel like the world is smaller. And as a role player I like the idea of there being places to discover that have nothing of real interest there. Happens in the real world too. There is more of a sense of suspense because the game world isn't over populated with junk creatures and mutants and those creatures that are out there are well done. I like the storyline and I dig the interactions you can have with the relevant NPCs. 40 hours in and very much enjoying it. In a way I got more than I expected. I didn't get more than I wanted mind you, just more than I expected.

I paid £37 for it, well below standard retail price. Those who went into this expecting the breadth of Fallout 3 were setting themselves up to be disappointed. I'm happy it turned out as well as it did. If only there weren't any invisible walls.

Just Cause 2 was boring. Plus, it was 3rd person, which would svck.
I'd much rather have this.

I'm not even going to bother reading every post however, No. This is easily one of the best games I've played. Bethesda & Obsidian did a great job with Fallout: New Vegas and it's a worthy successor to Fallout 3 and other Fallout games in my opinion. There is so much to do. Hopefully they just won't make us wait too long for a nice level cap increase being there are so many areas to explore, it's a win/win when you are gaining XP, perks, etc.. for it.

Your not the only one, while i am having lots of fun and getting my monies worth(i think it has lots of replayability regardless of others opinions) I am very let down (about the size not gameplay), not so much that the map is small but that they LED us to believe it was as big as FO3 knowing full well that 50% of it is inaccessable/useless :/ it wouldn't have bothered me so much if they had just said "the map is considerably smaller but has increased content".

content: a map thats SUPPOSED to be larger, but as pointed out by another thread, is accually 50% or more smaller than it is elad to believe

i agree on this, this is also my biggest con!
i loved the huge AND free fallout 3 map with much to explore because im a explorer and i tought the vegasmap would be like this, sadly it isent.

But feeling ripped of, no because vegas has also pros like much more and better quests, more and better dialoges and followers and overall more features, the nice hardcoemode for example.

i like both fallout 3 and new vegas, they are different but both are great, but yes of course a new vegas with a huge and free map like f3 would be the game of the century!
perhaps fallout 4 will be this, i hope so and by the way a newer engine is also badly needed...

I does not feel as open as F3, Right from the beginning there is no where else to go but south, Then after a small turn to the west north is the only way to go.
So yeah, I'm dissapointed. And some of the waypoint markers are a joke.
"Hey, I've just placed two chairs and a table, let's call it Powdegang camp north, north west and add a marker"!
-"Brilliant idea, I've jaust placed a dead Brahmin, this is going to be a sooooo cool waypoint"!

I didnt like how all of the supposedly unique factions made you go through essentially the same quest line to beat the game, and how through my previous exploration several of the game's final quests ended before I left the dialog box of the person giving them to me. This meant that the game's last 6 or so main quests could be finished in less than 2 hours, and made my final experiences with the game underwhelming.

Still, the game offered about 50 hrs of content, which is more than most other games I have played this year. Its ok.
