What? Did you not talk to anybody in goodsprings? They dont prod you to go north from there. You get told a few times to avoid that path, to go north, then east and loop around to get to Vegas.
I ran into the same issue but I was just testing the game and ignoring the people. (Wanted to see how well/poorly New Vegas would be on my rig.) Once I started playing the game I felt rather silly with the warnings they give. Oh, and I seemed to have weaved my way between the "DO NOT ENTER", or "STOP, DANGER BEYOND" signs. I saw them in real play through afterwords.
I do not feel ripped off in the slightest. I was enjoying it so much I went and bought the PS3 version for my friend so we could enjoy, and discuss the game together. He's loving it as much as I. (Only 1 freeze/crash for him in over 40 hours of play.)
I find the atmosphere in NV is much more creepy. Some of the ambient sounds make me jump and turn really quickly thinking something is there. I don't remember getting that in F3 nearly as much.
I did have to do some tweaking to get it run optimally but I was expecting that as I've had to do it with all Gamebryo engine games from Bethesda. And I still went out and bought it the day it was released fully knowing I may have issues. There are not many companies I feel the need to support by buying games new (Been hitting the $20 bin a lot more than a year ago.) but TES/Fallout titles always get bought on day one. I know I am going to get the best $/content ratio from their titles.
