Anyone else worried that New Vegas is going to svck?

Post » Thu May 12, 2011 5:53 pm

Don't get me wrong, I like Obsidian. I like their style and I like the new ideas they've presented in New Vegas but the simple fact is that they don't have a great track record for quality assurance, production values, and game balance. The videos I've seen so far seem demonstrate these failings: bad or choppy animations, disappearing/reappearing sinks, floating gamblers etc. The reason I'm especially worried is that everything else seems so damned good! Complex factions, hardcoe mode, weapon mods, character specialization, it'd be a damn shame if some crappy design here and there managed to spoil all the other good stuff the game's got going for it. What do you guys think based on what we've actually seen so far?

Huh, because Fallout 3 didn't have crappy animations and a crapload of bugs?

my only concern is that everything is going to be too complicated. the whole reputation/damage threshold/strength requirement kinda things all sound like they'll be more complicated/annoying than fun.

These were also in Fallout 1 and 2 were definitely not complicated to me.

How could some floating gamblers here and there completely ruin the game and make it svck? Just doesn't seem logical to me. FO3 had those same issues, so it's F03 with tons better everything. Every game's going to have it's share of bugs. So I don't base my purchases on floating gamblers.

Just for future reference: You are on a Fallout board asking a question like that. It only takes a few marbles to realize that VERY few people are going to agree with this. This is the same thing I'll say to the inevitable "F:NV is sooo overrated!" threads.

I'm liking it so far. A few graphical glitches won't hamper my most anticipated game of these last few years.

For a short while I was skeptical about the game because of some aspects that looked worse than FO3, like the animations for example. Pretty sure it won't svck though. There's too much in it that seems good already. Wow will I be pissed if it does.

I played FO3. Weird bugs like that don't bother me any more. I mean, FO3 was at least as buggy as any Obsidian game. I've never, for instance, been unable to complete a quest in an Obsidian game because the questgiver ran off randomly. Also, Obsidian is very good about patches.

And if that weren't enough, I think the Obsidian reputation for bugginess is at least partly undeserved. I played KoTOR2 and NWN2 on release and noticed no major bugs that jumped out at me.

Since i saw the first screenshots of NV, seeing as it looked and played just like Fallout 3, i assumed they were using a loooot of stuff from it, and so it would also bring the flaws it had, i'm almost sure that running will look like ice skating, that my char will look like an emotionless android and from time to time, npc's will be stuck in a certain animation.

But it never bothered me on Fallout 3, if they fixed it, cool! if they didn't, oh well, pew pew!

I always have some concerns any time I'm excited about a new game, but I'm not too worried about New Vegas. Bethesda has basically handed them the foundation of Fallout 3, which, despite some issues, is a good game, and some of the people working for Obsidian have had a history with the Fallout series. Everything I've read about New Vegas makes me think this will be one of the best games of all time.

Nope, animations are equal to or better than FO3. Voice acting also appears to be superior, as well as the story.

Don't care about floating gamblers. In FO3, I had students endlessly walking into each other during the GOAT exam, deathclaws and robots getting catapulted into the sky, and whole magazines emptied into a wall during VATS even though I had a 95% chance to hit. So... I'm expecting a bit better for the most part. No worries here. :)

I had a guy floating about 50 feet in the air, fell to the ground in water, then came back up on land still swimming and when I talked to him his head was doing a 360... didn't bother me though P=

It won't bother me unless it's a game breaking bug.

Not at all. I had my doubts for a long time, but I have very few doubts anymore. At this point it's really hard to believe Obsidian has been able to hide any serious bugs in the game from us. And considering everything else they've shown us looks awesome, if it's not buggy, then I can't think of much that will make this game svck.

Glitches come more numerously in games like fallout 3 and fallout new vegas only because there size. But these glitches will not affect you game much, or even any. Eventually as time goes on they will patch 80% of the bugs at least. Just cause you saw some pre release glitches does not mean you should say it will svck. This has already been said to be a runner up for GOTY by many trusted companies and critic websites. So dont not get the game cause of that, and if your worried then rent the game first.

At the very least it can't be worse than FO3, and I liked that. So, not worried, I guess?

Obsidian has never disappointed me with a game. Neverwinter Nights 2 was superior to its predecessor, and its expansion, Mask of the Betrayer, was one of the most in depth and amazing RPGs I've played on the PC, ever. Alpha Protocol was awesome. It had bugs and wasn't polished as much as I would have liked, but nothing game breaking. And it was still an incredible enough experience that I played it three times in a row. KOTOR 2 was incredible, and though it lacked the 'OMG-reveal' of KOTOR 1, it's story was generally more refined and better. The game wasn't really finished - and I loved it more than KOTOR 1 anyway.

Obsidian has a knack for taking another developer's series or franchise and making them better in every way. Unfortunately it seems that being handed the reigns also comes with time tables that are difficult to meet, resulting in unfinished or unpolished work that had to be completed in a hurry. It doesn't look like that happened with New Vegas though, so I have no worries.

Starting too... That bit about the companions was cheap. :(

~Still... They did say that they do risk death in HC mode... so since I was never going to play without using it, it shouldn't affect me.

*** I don't think it will be bad game at all really, but it seems to have odd compromises.

*** Do you really play FO:NV on Hard setting and still have deathless NPC's if not also playing HC-mode? Amazing.

Eh. I'm not really worried. I think it will be a great game. If there are any bugs I'm sure it won't take long for them to put out a patch.

Lol Bamith.... that i actually like everynow and then. The seriousness can somtimes bite you, but then you see a swimming 360 ice skating ragged coat man, and you just have to stop to laugh. I laughed littaly at your story picturing a previous time when somthing like that happened.

Edit: Pretty normal for people to be skeptical about the game actually. Games like FO3 don't seem to come around too often, so it's almost like lightning striking twice. I'm excited now but I always go through the same cycle as the release date draws nearer. Enthusiasm level lowers gradually, and when the game is finally in my hand being un-wrapped I feel no excitement at all; more towards indifference. Its like my mind calms itself down to prevent me from being disappointed due to high expectations.
