Anyone else worried that New Vegas is going to svck?

Only thing worrying me is how I'm going to hide from the wife and kids to play this through 5 times :)

My only real concern is my computer... I was barely able to run FO3 getting around 20fps average. If they did much to the NV engine then I may end up buying a game I cannot run... Gameplay I have no concerns... It is Fallout and I love it ?

Nah, it isnt all that complicated. If Power armor has a DT of 6 (It wont be that low, but for this purpose it is) and you have a pistol with a Damage of 10, you're only going to do 4 damage per shot that hits.

Wow, that simple? Thanks!

What do you guys think based on what we've actually seen so far?

I don't think the game is going to svck. Not by bugs anyway, I can tolerate quite a few.

My main concerns lay in the design decisions based off of the game rooting from Fallout 3 (too much of the same, too little of new), which is undoublty understandable in this case and is not a bad thing in it self, but can lead to some yawn-worthy situations in general gameplay. My greatest fear is that the changes being made - no matter how good they sound - are not substantial enough to cover up the boredom I eventually got from Fallout 3.

That said, I have my fingers crossed and hope for the best.

I try to keep myself skeptical about it.
Who knows. Might be great, and it might be the most buggy, glitchy, ugly ass game ever.
All there's to do is wait.

The videos I've seen so far seem demonstrate these failings: bad or choppy animations, disappearing/reappearing sinks, floating gamblers etc.

Perhaps someone could enlighten me about the problems with the animations? Is this a 3rd person thing I guess, and you're referring mostly to the player animations? I only play in 1st person and I've always thought the animations you see on NPC's, critters and muties were fine. I especially like the animation of muties walking the way their head sort of sways and bob's up and down as they walk. I always thought that was very well done. So, basically, I don't see what all the fuss is about animations.

As for other bugs, I played a very gently modded Fallout 3 and had VERY little problems with freezes, crashes and so forth. When I added large overhaul's like MMM and FWE there were more crashes from time to time, but my mostly vanilla runthroughs were pretty smooth sailing. Sure, I would get an occasional Radscorpion flying from one side of the map to another, but those were pretty funny actually, lol.

From my limited modding experience, I think at least some of the issues mentioned are collision and havoc related.

I'm going to be a little upset if they have choppy animations/floating gamblers/disappearing-reappearing sinks.

Why would Obsidian let this these fly?

Animations aren't choppy, floating glambers is actually quite funny(in fact it was the players fault for getting in the way of the npc) people are so worried about game breaking bug that a simple floating gambler makes them fear that the game will do poorly. The less you worry the better you'll feel while playing the game trying to nit pick everything. Just wait n' see folks

All right... To sum it all up:

1. The game was developed under supervision of Christopher Avellone, Darren L. Monahan, Feargus Urquhart and Joshua Sawyer, designers responsible for previous fallout games :intergalactic: If they are going to screw up such an ambitious project then I guess the history of Fallout games will never be the same.

2. We have only had around 10 new perks revealed but they all seem cool and very useful which implies that leveling up is going to be awesome.

3. The Fallout world, as well as the weapon arsenal have been expanded which guarantees many dynamic excursions into the wastes.

4. As far as the music is concerned, they decided to use some of the most iconic melodies to increase the Retro-future atmosphere even more.

Nope, Personally I do not believe the game is going to svck. :fallout:

Im liking the look of new vegas but hell,/ I dont expect it to reach GOTY as its more or less a remake of fallout 3 and theres bound to be other games with more uniqueness

Its intresting for what it is, ill admit. I was expecting a hole new game when I first saw the trailer with the robot in dark wasteland graveyard looked like a very serious horror game almost but from the looks of the gameplay, everything looks a little silly. With wild western themed cowboys and birght purple geckos dont seem to mix well with the old Fallout 3 brown deathclaws and raiders. Its just the colours and some of the animations seem a little loopy at times where it could have been done different and better. But the sound of the faction's, teammate abilitys, weapon mods and such is what im really looking forward too.

This comparison should show you what i mean. And if you dont seem to notice how the sky is bright blue and the ground is almost orange compared to the fallout 3 image then you wont understand. I just feel THAT sorta amount of colour change of the same game isnt good for keeping that post apocolyptic feel. Sure youll argue there no nukes that hit vegas during the war but that doesnt change anything, just because there were explosions and radiation doesnt mean the colour saturation is gunna decrease.

But the bugs you cant really blame them for, hasent been a new game recently that didnt have bugs at release. We'll have to see for what it is before making any guesses wether its good or not, always good to be pessimistic as you either dont get hyped over something or you were wrong that the game was bad yet you still get to play a good game so you'll win either way.

OK, as a longtime Fallout superfan, i feel it my duty to defend my favorite game franchise. So I spent a few days and played through all three games with no mods or patches. I noticed a few bugs, but nothing that ruined my game:

FO1 has ending bugs and it is possible to bug your waterchip countdown into freezing (best bug so far)
FO2 my car dissapeared leaving only the trunk, which followed me everywhere, even onto the oil rig.
FO3 I had some issues in vault 101 with the game freezing
FO3 Regulator captain, the lady you turn fingers in to for cash, ran off to fight a radscorpion and later was unfindable. most annoying bug so far
FO3 the behemoth in the basemant of the capitol was fused with the floor

as for this:
Im liking the look of new vegas but hell,/ I dont expect it to reach GOTY as its more or less a remake of fallout 3 and theres bound to be other games with more uniqueness

The geckos of FO2 came in different colors, even GOLD. as for the skies, the DC area is alot closer to the sea than Vegas is, mojave is a DESERT, and according to the storyline, was spared the wrath of nukes, so therefor it should be "cleaner" , and thus more colors. The wild west theme has been in every fallout to a degree, in FO3 they tipped their hat with the sheriff of megaton, and in FO2 Cassidy (a companion you can pick up in Vault City) was an obvious cowboy themed character. The visuals and style of the characters are there to put you into a certain mindset of this being a frontier. Death is around every corner, but life goes on, maing the people who live it stronger. Alot of thought goes into what colors to use in a game, don't knock it until you have played it and thought about it some.

excellent fallout 3 open world gameplay+ tweaked mechanics+ superior obsidian writing and quest design, how could that svck?
the only little scary aspect would be that it's an obsidian game running on a gamebryo engine, and in my case, played on the ps3 :whistling:
at least i'll be getting a new rig next spring...

my only concern is that everything is going to be too complicated. the whole reputation/damage threshold/strength requirement kinda things all sound like they'll be more complicated/annoying than fun.

Opposite for me. I thought the RPG system in Fallout 3 felt overly shallow and lacking in consequence. The new RPG mechanics are one of the main reasons I'm looking forward to NV.

I played FO3. Weird bugs like that don't bother me any more. I mean, FO3 was at least as buggy as any Obsidian game. I've never, for instance, been unable to complete a quest in an Obsidian game because the questgiver ran off randomly. Also, Obsidian is very good about patches.

And if that weren't enough, I think the Obsidian reputation for bugginess is at least partly undeserved. I played KoTOR2 and NWN2 on release and noticed no major bugs that jumped out at me.

This. Fallout 3 had more little bugs than any Obsidian game I've ever played, and I'm on my third play-through of Alpha Protocol (finding very few bugs, oddly enough). I did see a few inventory bugs in NWN2, but otherwise I don't think Obsidian's games are buggier than Bethesda's...in my experience, anyway.

I'm not going to worry about anything being wrong with the game until I play it. I haven't seen anything so far to make me think it's any more buggy than FO3 or Oblivion. What's the point in worrying about it now?

If the game didnt have any bugs, I wouldnt buy it. That means no room for improvement and theres always room for improvement. Therefore its impossible for a game not to have bugs. And yes I would buy any Fallout game that came out just because its Fallout.

It is a whole new game, not a remake of Fallout 3. Do I need to remind (again) that GTA III, GTA: Vice City, and GTA: San Andreas were all basically the same game, and they all received Metascores of 95% and above?

Anyway, I don't see how the visual comparison matters. Besides, a lot of people complained about the bland colors in FO3, and given that it's over 200 years after the war it doesn't make sense for the sky to be yellow anyway. As far as the themes go, you do realize that Fallout 3 was a departure from the themes of the series and New Vegas is more of a return to the original themes, right? Raiders and Deathclaws didn't come from Fallout 3.

However, since reading this and actually thinking about it, there's this little voice in my head saying: " Yeah, but what if it does...?[svck]"

So, thanks for that, I guess.

I have no doubt that it could just be downright awful. Am I worried about it? Nah. Ive got faith in the boys at Obsidian. As was mentioned before, despite their spotty record with bugs, they have had a decent amount of time to fix up the engine they where given. I really don't think the game is going to svck. The sheer amount of features they have added to the engine make me tug at my collar a little. Im sure there will be bugs. Always is in a game like this. Ambition tends to lead into that. (Heck, even ME1 had more then a few bugs for me.) My excitement over the new features easily outweighs any worry. (IRONSIGHTS hardcoe MODE OMGBLACHBBQ!)

Here, if you are worried, have a :spotted owl:

Or worse, what if the john falls from space and kills you? :P

I really doubt the game is going to be terrible. I've been doing as much research as I can on all the info that's come out so far, and it seems like a lot of thought, hard work, and (dare I say?) love has been put into this game.

:) I'm almost expecting to love this game just as much as Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines.

I do think some people are setting their expectations unrealistically high, which is of course a setup for disappointment.

Myself, I've remained fairly grounded in reality. I recognize that New Vegas isn't going to be a perfect game, that it's going to have bugs, and that I'm not going to agree with every decision made by Obsidian. I'll play New Vegas, and based on what I know I'll probably like it more than Fallout 3. I don't think it'll svck, not even close. Could it be outright horrible? Yes, but based on what we've seen (bugs and all) I don't think that's the case.

When it comes to Obsidian's competence, a lot of folks like to trash on KotOR II, and while I agree that the ending was unfinished and filled with plot holes... so was Fallout 3's. People like to say that Obsidian games are incredibly buggy, well so are Bethesda games. Obsidian isn't a perfect developer, and they could most certainly improve in many areas, but I do respect them for taking risks that no other developer dares to take. Obsidian tries to make their games complicated enough to appeal to the hardcoe RPG crowd, and at the same time accessible enough to appeal to the casual RPG crowd. Studios like Bethesda and BioWare aim their most recent games pretty much exclusively at the casual crowd, so I appreciate Obsidian's hard work in trying to appease both groups rather than flat out ignoring one of them.

Yeah that's what it was. It was the player's fault. lol

I don't think New Vegas is gonna svck, but I do think it's gonna have all the same kinda issues that Fallout 3 still has when it comes to animated NPCs, and those little things that slap you in the face occasionally, like crazy HAVOC spazmoglitches to hovering body parts, and immovable floating objects, quest related additions to areas that don't vanish after the fact and stuff like that. All the stuff I'm already used to mentally omitting or getting a giggle from occasionally as I play. Those things and more do svck, but the whole is awesome, so meh... it won't svck... any more than FO3... which I love.
