Are all TES games about being a special little shouting drag

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 6:21 pm

Sorry, I remember playing morrowind a long time ago, but not very much. But from what I remember about it you just began the game and weren't pointed to a main quest which involving being a dragon born where you absorb dragons souls and use the drag soul to shout random things which can mark people for death or is really loud.

My problem is I really can't bring myself to do the main quest , as I don't want to be a special humanoid dragon wizard, hero.

No, they weren't. If anything, all the emperors giving you quests in the past games were the dragonborn. Some at least. Although they never knew the shouts either afaik. Most of them seemed like prophets or mystics.

Anyways, you don't have to play the main quest.

Then don't do it, and don't worry about it; plenty more stuff everywhere. One thing Skyrim definitely has is lots of stuff to do.

Oblivion is the only TES game where the main character isn't innately special, as far as I know. In Skyrim, you're Dovahkiin. In Morrowind, you're the reincarnation of a Chimer king.

Every game besides Morrowind, I think. You're always some guy or gal who the emperor sees special purpose in though.

And the poor agent that went to Daggerfall, poor blade didn't know what they were getting themself in to...

Not to mention the Eternal Champion, they were somewhat normal, if you don't count their help.

I bet the emperor didn't even realize there was a prisoner in Arena.

You're wrong.

The only real similarity is the fact that all are connected to a prophecy of an elder scroll.

Which is grade AAA plot magic, the most powerful kind there is!

Avoid the main quest, but that means no dragons which is a bummer.

Nope, you're a pretty normal person in both Morrowind and Oblivion. Can't speak for Daggerfall or Arena.

One of the best things about TES games is that you can ignore the main quest and still have fun.

I think the OP forgot that when you start Morrowind, you're given very specific directions as to where to go. It's the same as any Elder Scrolls game. If you don't want to follow the main quest, you just ignore the first set of directions you're given.

I feel exactly the same way. I only bought this game because I learned that you can indeed ignore the main quest. Don't go meet with the Jarl in Whiterun and you will never see another dragon. Just explore the land, meet people, kill monsters, and have fun.

If you decide after playing for a while or with a different char that you do want random dragons, then you can look it up in Wiki or ask in the Spoilers section how far exactly you need to go in MQ to get them to randomly spawn.

And isn't the fun of it that plenty of people enjoy using the shout system a lot? See? You can use it, or you can choose to ignore it. And then if you ignore it, you can come to the forums and complain about it anyway.

I agree, not because I don't like the shouts, but because I wouldn't want them to use something like that twice. Especially if at the end of the game you stop the dragons. And no that's not a spoiler, I haven't done the main quest, I'm just guessing.

whether you like it or not, i am almost 100% positive it won't be in the next installment of TES anyway. It's a one time dragonborn thing.

I'm pretty sure everyone knows that. Which makes one wonder why anyone would take the time to vocally complain about an optional feature that they already knew was only around for this game.

Because it doesn't matter if it's something that's around for a lifetime, a single game, or even a minute. If it exists in a product we buy, we are allowed to have some kind of problem with it.

Although I do think if not for the community at large this thread could have been locked right away as either of the wikis or Google would have answered the OP's question.
