i'm probably inviting a virtual flogging by even mentioning this, but i really think the argonians and the khajiit should be banished from the ES universe. they're absolutely ridiculous, even for a fantasy game. as much as i try to understand or at least appreciate their relevance in the ES, it becomes almost impossible to ignore just how out of place these two races seem within this tolkien-tamriel universe. perhaps this is more an issue with the lore than the narrative, but i feel they'd be better suited within the context of a futuristic sci-fi. for some reason that feels more appropriate for a cat and a lizard, or maybe i've just seen one too many episodes of star trek.

maybe the idea was to bring in another race to layer the whole man/mer power struggle, but i'm not buying it. i'd imagine it's too late now, at least in terms of future ES games (though i'd certainly be willing to look the other way) but the aesthetic cartoonishness of these overgrown lizard and cat-people strike a hard discord in what is otherwise an interesting and well-thought out universe.

The Lore for the Khajiits and Argonians explains them in a way that fits well and meshes well with this series. How exactly do they seem out of place?

Argonians are the one true race of Tamriel, to remove them would be to remove the most important aspect of the continent.

TES is it's own game not some fail LOTR knock off (I'm not saying LOTR is bad) just because Tolkien set the stage for fantasy doesn't mean it has to be like LOTR, after all it is "fantasy".
