It's still dumb not to have it. Why NOT have it?

Iron sights would be a little overkill for this game. Besides, I don't even remember at any point in the movies where they were actually aiming at anything.

Because if you used it, you would die. In every single situation. You can barely track aliens and fast moving predators as it is, good luck doing it while aiming down the sights.

That's true. Can't wait for the full game.

Aim Down Sights.

That's a terrible term.

Iron sights. Yaay.

And yes, they are not needed in this game.

Bah... you guys are right. Game is made for spray firing, not aiming.

Yeah, situational awareness is a lot more important than aim in AvP games. It doesn't matter how much of an ace shot you are if you don't know where to shoot. ;)

I'd say controlled bursts.

Here's a few tips for those who have trouble playing the Marine.

Do not play him defensively. Play him like you are the biggest badass (Thanks Leydenne!) on the block. Strut like you've got the stuff. You own this facility, and no alien scum are going to take it from you. Run into combat like a berserker. Melee early and often to make sure you do not get heavy attacked. If an enemy heavy attacks as their first attack in combat, immediately press your block button after you get hit (the Marine will put his gun up as soon as it is possible, so don't freak out if he doesn't for a split second, as he is still recovering from the staggering heavy attack). After you block the light attack (which WOULD have killed you), throw a melee and then kill them while they are down. This works the best against aliens.

Use the shotgun. Use it as much as you can, and use the heavy attack (fires both barrels) like you've got unlimited ammo. If you hit a predator in the face (Even from a few yards away) with the heavy attack, it will instantly gib them in a spray of delicious green glow stick blood. Against aliens using the double barrel is a bit more difficult, as they are fast, but just slow down a bit and wait for your chance.

Do not, under any circumstances, use the flamethrower. It is absolute rubbish.

I'd say controlled bursts.

No, the drop in accuracy is actually helpful at longer ranges when you fire nonstop BECAUSE they are either invisible or hard to see. Just keep firing and watching for blood. At close range, firing like a madman works just as well, since you ought not to be missing at such a close range anyways. Besides, you have 99 freaking rounds. That's a LOOOOONG time to fire.

Also, I'm open to some games, if anyone wants to play.

snip

That's some solid advice. Personally I think the marine is seriously underrated by most people. The marine can kick some serious ass in the hands of a skilled player (much like any of the other species). I like playing as a marine because it makes me feel like I'm in the Aliens movie. I really wish they had some marine skins from that movie, it'd be badass to play as the likes of Hudson, Apone or Vasquez, for example. Maybe that could be part of some DLC? :P

I might be tempted to play for a little while once I finish the bit of work I'm doing.

Best tip of a marine ever. Kill them before they get close enough to melee you. Provided you fail at t is basic rule then go to Orzorn for more tips. :P

Got the blocking and counter attacking down with the marine now. It's extremely useful against aliens, knocks them back good and far for an easy pulse rifle kill.

Unfortunately, blocking and counter attack a Predator does not work. They always immediately light attack me for the kill. The only way to do it is if you get a lucky headshot in the .5 seconds available after the block + counter or to have the shotgun and heavy attack them.

Wat.

Maybe it was a short campaign or something, but I did they even have access to multiplayer (beyond deathmatch)?

From the tidbits I saw, they were speaking about the campaign.

Just thought I'd tell you guys. I'm still buying the game unless every review out there gives it really low scores.

I was playing earlier and in the lobby i heard some kid over the mic "Ew Sleazy chose marine, he's going to get pwned" Came in 1st got a streak of 7 :P

Speaking of which, is there a way to turn off mic sounds? I really don't need to hear a bunch of 12 year olds, or worse someone just leaving there mic on so I pick up all the static/rubbing of the mic.

The way I play marine is the opposite of the type of games I like to play. I run in all GI Joe firing everywhere, never stopping. Charge in towards the alien while firing, cause the close I get the more I hit. And grab the shotgun. And I never ever go in that big open room on the top floor. Thats just asking to be predowned.

That seems a bit unreasonable to me. From the fun that I'm having with the demo I can tell it's going to be a decent game at least, especially when the only mode available in the demo is easily the worst mode in the game. I'm not that bothered if the campaign is a bit short and crap, because it's a multiplayer game first and foremost. I'm guessing the reviewer either didn't take multiplayer into account or they just weren't very good at the multiplayer. It'll be interesting to see what the rest of the reviews turn out like.
