AVP discussion #2

What makes it even worse is the lockon. Even if you backpedal 20 feet you'll still be struck by the tail. I'm pretty sure that meleeing as the Marine stuns enemies though (I asked people after I melee'd them and those that answered said that it seemed like it did), so I think you have to learn how to time close-quarters combat, i.e. shoot them until they're close, melee, backpedal, shoot. It's hard to figure it out with the matchmaking system though, wish I could just find a place to play with friends to try stuff out.

Yes. I actually just a few games ago figured out how the counter the tail. If you think an alien is nearby, then block and then melee him then unload. It's a guaranteed kill. If an alien your are fighting begins to start using his tail, then throw a melee, and do step 1. It's actually really easy to counter unless you didn't know it was there.

This method also stops predators just as well. In fact, I play the marine as a melee machine. Hide around corners, wait for an enemy, then melee them and blast them to death. Its a clean 2 second kill. Doing this method, I actually became a force to be feared myself. The shotgun only helps this even more. Melee, then fire both barrels for an instant kill (not that it doesn't ALREADY instant kill them, which is awesome against predators, because they like to run away and then get you in the next room).

After figuring all the counters out, I'd have to say this game is extremely balanced. One of the most balanced FPS games I've ever played (and Over 9000! times more balanced than MW2).

I found the humans to be the scariest to play as.I felt like I was alone.I got startled plenty of times during the time I played as them.I screamed out a few foul when I would get surprised.

Is the game as fun as AVP 2?

Actually, I'd say the Predator feels the most alone. You are invisible, you can't see the Aliens at the same time as you see the Predator and Humans (unless you use normal vision, but then its difficult to see anything at all because its dark). In addition, the Predator has an odd mix of slow range that is easy to dodge, and slow melee that is difficult to finish. I felt the most alone, and many times helpless, when playing the Predator.

The Marine has great range and melee, as the shotgun is just an absolute killing machine. Getting close to a Marine is a priority for both the Alien and Predator, yet it is also the most dangerous range to be at against a Marine, since his gun has a lower chance of missing (because he's firing at point blank) and because of the awesome power of Marine melee plus the shotgun to finish it off.

The Alien is just a murdering machine. I never feel helpless playing one because they are so fast, mobile, and stealthy.

Thats why you have to [censored] with good humans heads as an alien. Zig zag around the room. Make their bleep thing go crazy and get their mind broken. Then ambush them. If they see you speed away, and circle around. As an alien you have to [censored] with their heads more than any other class. If you just go in straight for a kill you will die. Unless it's a newb in which case fake him about by running and then sprinting then slash stun. Even then that's a partially mind screwing. :P

I have to agree, the game is pretty well balanced. It all depends on just how skilled you are. All the classes have ways of countering the other. Although they have to work harder for one particular species ect. Way more balanced than the second game. Anyone else remember the one hit kill sniper rifle of death you could fire on semi auto in the original? Yea....

I tried playing for a while but my internet is being screwy today. Maybe it will clear up later. I hope finding a game will be better in the finalized version.

I played it for a whine.

Doesn't look promising.

I deleted the game,i really do not like steam being shoved down my throat.

Also i hate multiplayer in general.

Wow... well I don't know what to tell you. "What the hell were you expecting?" I guess is appropriate to say. :P I'm not surprised you hate it? I mean it had all the qualities you hate. Congrats!

I've been playing it with my buds. It's awesome, and this is only 1 game mode. I play pretty much only marine and am doing pretty well. Have been #1 in a few games so far, and nearly always in the top 3. My only real beefs so far is that the HUD seems to take 10 seconds to appear after I spawn, so I hear beeping but have no motion sensor to look at (which makes it even more scary and potentially fun) and that the spawning kind of svcks. I cant count the number of times I've been killed when I spawn with barely having a chance to move. But really in a Deathmatch style it would be hard to do anything about it.

Just found out that some stealth kills/trophy kills can be stopped if you block (LB & RB on the 360) It's all about good timing.

With the marine, I have countered a few alien insta-kills. There is one where you get pinned on the ground, block at the right point and you kick it off, stunning them with enough time to unload into them.
There is also one where you get grabbed from behind from the alien, a quick elbow to the jaw knocks them back but doesn't stun them (I bet it leaves the player confused though) Aliens can also be knocked to the floor by meleeing them.

When a Predator grabs you from the front as a marine and lifts you up, blocking makes your character push away from him using his legs.

I'm also pretty sure playing as the other races can counter a few things. The marine is the most defensive class I think though: A good defence is a good offense, and remember to heal yourself after a fight!

My gamertag is: ViagraFruitcake

Just send me a friends request saying you are from the forums so I know its not a randomer. We need to get a forum game going!

I played 2 games last night and won them both. The first was as a Predator and everyone left the game because I was dominating. Got 12 kills and a 7 streak in that one. I'm getting used to playing as the Predator now. I played a game as the marine after and won that one too with 16 kills. I'm liking the game so far and I can't wait to play some of the better multiplayer modes like Predator Hunt and Infestation, not to mention team deathmatch. I think the demo would have been much better with teams.

Well I do too. I just don't like playing online with other people. But I gave AvP a chance because I love the premise, the previous games etc etc.

But if, like Romascu, I didn't like these, and I also don't like multiplayer....why the heck would I have downloaded the game in the first place?

Me and Mysterious Dr D are trying to play some AvP now if anyone wants to join us. It'd be nice to have a good group of players to stop people from leaving.

[EDIT]: On PC by the way.
