An Award? for this abomination?

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 7:33 pm

Yes, it did. It was an excellent game and has been nominated for Game Of The Year as well as RPG of the year.

Mass Effect 2 deserves both awards if New Vegas doesn't get RPG of the Year then Mass Effect 2 should it

This game actually deserves more honors then what its getting like GOTY, plus why is Felicia Day the only one from who's getting nominated for the best female performer when Cass's voice actress did a much better job.

Of course she didn't do a 'much better job'.
But she did a fine job, good work.
They all did great. :)
Personally I've played through twice (190 hours) minor issues only.
The game was a bit rough on opening day though (Oct.19) but it's great now... isn't it?
It should win all those awards,

I was pretty sure ME2 came out november last year.

Wow. The story could have been better, Because its all about the six in that game..

I must be doing it wrong then, since i've played it trough 8 times and not seen any of the romace scenes. Now FNV on the other hand... :hubbahubba:

And RPG means "Role Playing Game" right? I think ME2 qualifies.

Howdy New Vegasers! Obsidian just recieved word that Fallout: New Vegas has been nominated for THREE 2010 Video Game Awards for the following categories:

Best PC Game
Best RPG
Best Performance by a Human Female (Felicia Day as Veronica)
Head on over to Spike to check out a full list of the nominees and be sure to tune into the the VGAs on Saturday, December 11th!
^^^^^^^
the above is copied from Obsidian's site--what the hell? Has anyone at Spike PLAYED the game? or did they turn it on,build their character, get out of Goodsprings and then, turn it off? There's no way anyone went thru the game any farther than that before coming to that bribed decision..and I'm sure they bribed Spike to get that nominated so people won't think the game is a joke and a waste of money. And did you know that if you click on forums on Obsidians site it links you to the Gen Disc on here? They passed the buck onto Bethesda so they won't get all the complaints..

Yes, the game may be buggy, but in all honesty, its still an AMAZING game compared to games like dragon age and what not.

Barely if at all, in my humble opinion. My impression of it was a glorified actionadventure with all the RPG stuff either diminished of cut out altogether. Crampybone says Spirits be in a baad mood with this one.

Is there any other true RPG's in 2010?
New Vegas, while buggy as hell for some, does deserve that award and I'm actually going to be surprised if some other [censored] which has the nerve to call itself an RPG wins.
What other games were nominated for that award?

I may be wrong - but 5 million shipped and sold to retailers does not equal 5 million units SOLD to consumers.

This number reflects MANY things, not just how good/popular/playable the game is since those things are largely determined AFTER you buy the game. (ie advertising (of which Bethesda did a TON - it was even advertised in my cab ride home last night), sequel value (it had a lot), etc). Meaning you can't say a game is great and deserves an award simply because it's parent companies shipped out 5 million copies.

As for judging how many people have tech issues with this game by the number of posts on this forum - here you are equally erroneous. Most people with problems do not post on forums, because of the possibility of negative responses, being flamed, ridiculed etc. A simple review of posts shows that many people have tried to contact Bethesda directly, and received no help at all - posting here was the last thing they did. There are also hundreds of gaming forums that people go to for help - not just this one.

I was mistaken, I must have misread the 5 million thing. But I was not saying that it reflects how good the game is. I was saying that the people who are reporting their game-breaking bugs are in the minority. Hell, I admit that's dubious, but so is saying that it's a major problem. Unless there is are totally accurate statistics about who is and isn't getting bad bugs, then neither of us really know. I've seen forums erupt with cries of "BUGS BUGS BUGS" for several new games, and I quite honestly believe that New Vegas, though it is definitely a buggy game, is not the "defective product" that so many people are making it out to be.

Final gaynasty 14 or some crap..

ME2.

Fable 3.

You can roleplay in FFXIII?

ME2.... It was a fun game but it failed to live up to the few RPG elements it's predecessor had.

Fable III, haven't played it but honestly it sounds more boring than Fable II.

But I'm sure FFXIII will win just cause it's a FF game...
I mean, there was this "Who's the best villain" thing at some site, and Bowser... BOWSER... From Super Mario was winning over stuff like Master from Fallout 1 and Lavos from Chrono Trigger.
And why was he winning over them? Cause he was famous.
Not cause he had the best plan or goal, not because of his actions and not cause of his personality.
But because he was famous.
I'm sure FF will win just cause it's a FF game and nothing else. :banghead:

At least XIV is half MMO.....XIII is just press the fight button and you beat it sooner or later....

Fallout: New Vegas is a excellent game aside from bugs. The only other game I bought this year was Mass effect 2 which was good but not as good as 1, All other games I've considered purchasing this year have flopped.

True that neither of us will know the degree of "buggy" - nor will we ever know, as it is not in Bethesda's interest to release such data.

What I do know. :)

I've been gaming, for the most part on a daily basis since 1972. Yes, that's 1972. On a wide variety of platforms. And for me, personally, this has been the worst gaming experience - ever, bar none (On a console). My issues aren't about glitches and annoyances - those are to be expected. In fact, I empathize with you at some of the meaningless complaints on this forum.

However, I do have a problem with complete unplayability and/or needing to constantly "reconfigure" my game in order to play it (I've had both issues). And the real issue here is that people - MANY people on this forum, have the **exact same issues**, (unplayability), in the **exact same areas** over and over and over. . I do not believe that Bethesda/Oblivion was not aware of these issues when they released this game. Far too many people have them. And to knowingly release a game that is broken for so many (on a console no less!) - is... reprehensible.

Clearly playing FONV on a PC is less problematic (ironic, since PCs offer the most complex environments to code for), and in my opinion, (as meaningless as it is), it is inexcusable that a game for a *console* (which doesn't have the variable hardware and driver configs that a PC has) to be literally unplayable for SO many people - is just indefensible. (I'm playing on PS3. I prefer PC gaming, but I'm rebuilding my gaming PC.)

I'm glad that you can play your game, and that you enjoy it so much. I ask however, that you keep an open mind when it comes to other people's issues with this game.

Peace.

With or without a patch it has gone into my top ten lifetime best award group no matter what awards it does or does not get elsewhere. It's not the only buggy game in that list btw, I put Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines right up there as well and it was one of the most bugged/glitchy games I believe I have ever taken the time to play because it was just that awesome. Bloodlines was awesome despite never having patches needed released due to Activision's only giving Troika a week to patch the game. A few of the Troika employees worked without pay to finish some patching and the game community did the rest. Despite all of this, it was an awesome game.

Fortunately, Fallout:NV is not near so bugged as that game, they have released two patches and are continuing to work on an additional patch which should assist with bugs and glitches. And quite honestly, any bugs or glitches or problems I've had with the game, while frustrating, are not game breaking for me and the game is far and above most RPGs of today. I think it nothing short of brilliant and just can't stop playing the damned thing. Meanwhile my dishes and housework are pileing up around me, my dog is feeling abandoned, my hubby is lonely, my friends are worried I'm depressed (because I don't want to attend get parties and banquets and such, my hubby is living on sandwiches and pizza and my desk is a mess. I have no time to do all that everyday stuff because I am entrapped in a masterpiece.

I can relate to the condition of my house while I try to play FNV but I've had to turn my attention to getting it ready for Thanksgiving and wait for the patch I hope will allow me to finish my first, and not my last, amazing game of New Vegas. I'm building my second character for when things are fixed and I'm hoping it'll be very smooth. There isn't anyone else doing this type of open world game that I love. If they're pushing the envelope on it, that's something I support. I'm hoping they'll do better quality control on the next one and I definitely want there to be a next one, and another after that, and another after that.

It all started with Oblivion....and I can't get enough. More stories, more chapters...keep it going...make it better too...and I'll be there.

Oh, and I haven't travelled with Veronica yet so I would have voted for Boone's voice acting. :)

You can argue that Bethesda has the entire Elder scrolls series, and your right. However, only maybe 20% of that entire Bethesda fanbase actually played Daggerfall, Morrowwind, etc, and everyone else seemed to join in at Oblivion. (Retract part of this, maybe about 35-40% played Morrowwind). Almost the ENTIRE BW forum, each member owns every BioWare game to come out... which is rather impressive.

See bold text.

With all due respect, you couldn't have possibly spent too much time here if you believe Morrowind fans are part of some sort of minority on this forum.

And you clearly don't read, because I clearly state multiple times this is my subjective opinion. You sir, fail. (:

You don't back up a "subjective" opinion by actually naming numbers nor do you form sentences this specific on the subject. If it seems to you that a large part of users has this problem state that. Don't dramatize it.
