Backpacks anyone?

Also confused about this.

But I would like the idea of an old Shopping Trolley being salvaged and used.
The only problem is a small book called The Road... :cryvaultboy:

Oh, there are lots of problems. Ever try pushing a shopping cart (or anything else with wheels that size) through sand? Empty, much less with a hundred pounds of crap on it?

Let's not even get into how lame backpacks "reducing weight" is. This ain't Oblivion, and backpacks shouldn't automatically confer the "Feather" effect. (Note to self: having said this, someone will inevitably renew the howling for Area 51, this time with the "Alien Antigravity Pack" as potential loot.)

Better yet, if we're going to pack our inventory where it's visible, scale it to what we're carrying- so when that STR 10 character is close to max load, you've got a bulge the size of a pack Brahmin on your back. (Not just the packs on the Brahmin, mind you- I mean looking like you're giving Lucky Harith's Brahmin a piggyback ride!) Those saying visible packs would add immersion- only if they're scaled to their contents, not if they're Bags of Holding or Portable Holes.

"Hey look, my character looks soooooo much more real! He's got a fanny pack big enough for two cans of pop on- with 4 assault rifles, 2 suits of armor, a rocket launcher, 6 medical kits, and enough ammunition to supply an entire military depot in it!"

I think we just want immersion not realism, if a backpack adds extra carry weight it makes sense to me because its a videogame and it adds a bonus to an item or instead of carry weight it affects how many items you can hot-key.

Even if they didn't have carry weight I'd just wear it for the aesethetics.

I have no problem with wearing loadbearing gear in a game to be honest. personaly If the developers want to spend a couple of days making it, then more power too them. personaly I think its nice when they give you the option of adding in (for example) more inventory, or make it purely asthetic, or make it something you have to weight the benifit of (IE a backpack that has a biger carry weight but a "outside" movment penalty and/or a sneek penalty (after all you literaly are lugging a locker on your back), or a Smaller backpack with a camo bonus (because your stuff is not shifting around in the rucksack) or a medium pack that lets you swap out weapons a bit faster

again my point about the developers designing with the whatever they add into the game aplies here (Ie it realy does not matter what they do, put in backpacks or just use perks and stats to handle loadweight or just let everyone have a fixed inventory count/size/weight, they are going to design the game with that item in mind as it is!

but it also helps to know when to ditch the no real value junk, or the value of making multiple trips, or useing your companions as packmules!

and to be honest, to me the ideal "Backpack" is to start off with a base cary of 50 pounds + 5-10-15 pounds per level (assuming the trates of small frame - none - Big Bruiser would modify carry weight) and then add a backpack slot thats upgradable that boosts carryweight by whatever and make it upgradable)

to be honest I ignore people who pitch a fit over adding something else to the game. Seriously you care about how your character looks when odds are you will never leave first person the whole time your playing ? you remind me of the people in other games who will pitch a fit and threaten all kinds of protests that will realy hurt the developers bottom line if they dare make food/drink manditory . . . and then go into agonizing detail about the kinds of potions and other self aplied buffs that the developers should create in other threads. . . so. . . whats your big beef with them making food-drink manditory if your going to spend so mutch precious time/inventory space on potions and scroll creation???

One of the mods I use in FO3 is a backpack. In a prior job I was lugging a pack around A LOT. I got used to the idea... and I still have a couple of smaller backpacks I take places in real life.

Packs make it easier/more comfortable to carry weight around, which is why I take them hiking/hunting/to war.

I would like to see them in the game, but it's not something I'll be upset about as I normally play in 1st person mode anyway.

For a while in FO3 I set my max carry weight without a pack at 30, and my max carry weight with a pack at 75, and disabled fast travel... that was an interesting game.

FONV is giving us hardcoe mode, so I would LIKE to see a pack, as I feel that would be more realistic.
