I would not mind a backpack if nothing else to justify where you keep your stuff, but it should be a purely aesthetic item or one with small benefits so those who don't want a character with a backpack the game don?t screw you over.

small rucksack --> + 50 carrying, no penalty
larger rucksack -> +75 carrying, -1 AGL
the big one I carried -> + lots, -2 AGL, -2 END... and it makes you dumber after carrying it awhile.. -it did me. :)

This makes sense.

If backpacks are in this game, they had better be able to tear; or else they would be redundant as the game would not be any more realistic with a magical/impervious backpack included in it.

Try humping eighty pounds of gear from your car to your house, without a rucksack.

I can't do it.

With one I can/could/ought to if pressed carry one ten hours, and cover ground..

True, carrying weight would be easier with a pack on your back, but it wouldnt allow you to carry more weight than you were physically able to, just increase your endurance for carrying the weight you can. But then again maybe I am thinking too far into this considering its just a game.

But I say give us a LBV to attach your gear to such as convential/plasma/nuka grenades to as well as our pistols.

So long as the player has some way of carrying extra items, be it through a pack-mulecompanion, a car like in Fallout 2, or even a backpack like the thread suggests, I'll be happy.

Oh hell yes I want a backpack! Especially seeing my characters never have very high strength and I never hire companions. I think that this would be a very nice addition! :shocking:

Imagine your character looking all tough with his Hello Kitty backpack. Or how about Hanna Montana? Like the Dogmeat packs that had a teddy bear riding on top. I know it sounds like I'm ridiculing the idea but I'm not. A backpack makes perfect sense. With negs to AG for certain weights and extra time required to actually retrieve things from your pack. I'd love it

But I want my Dora the Explorer backpack!

I named my 2nd toon Dorado (female). Many levels later I realized that her nickname would be Dora. I wonder if it was something subliminal.

in the book of Eli its more of a napsack not a sissy backpack. I'd rather have a car/wagon or even just a shopping cart.

I vote yes for any kind of backpack, satchel, rucksack or whatever! It adds to the wasteland wanderer feel that I like to achieve (for example,
Spoiler
after I've killed Tobar the Ferryman I always use his outfit coz it looks cool and everydayish
. A backback with that would add so much more.)

Not sure if anybody has already suggested it, but I loved the solution in fallout 2....a vehicle....with a trunk. Simple. Your STR should be the only thing that dictates how much you can carry weight wise. I loved having my car parked at the entrance to any underground dwelling I was at, so if I needed to make multiple loot hauls, or found out halfway through I needed some explosives, etc. Was very immersive to me, it's what I would imagine myself doing in a post nuclear setting. I can only carry so much on my back...so....get something to put it in! And don't forget the lock on the trunk! I know a vehicle would be a pain in the [censored] to put into a FPS and make it look decent, but I am confident it could be done.

Considering it's an FPS, it's set in Vegas (i.e. a desert), and the setting (post nuclear apoc), if I were making the decision on this one, I would make it a dune buggy, heavily modified of course. Little nuclear powered engine, maybe a tow behind trailer/trunk, mounted gun for defense, some armor....mmmm, I want one already.

OK guys what I ment was a backpack that isn't like little shool kid backpack i ment like millitary, camlbak,(to keep you hydrated in hardcoe or in other mode heal you like you drank water)or also like the oakly knapsack from the book of Eli, or a hiker type backpack. I also don't want it to be required to have a backpack and i just want it to have maybe a ten pound carry bonus not like one-hundred pounds. I also want them so you can put some items in them and drop them if overencumbered so small items can be easily found. Mmkay
