[Relz]Bananasplit's Better Cities

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 9:58 pm

Hello,

I love this mod as well. Wouldn't play without it, but I am having some issues.

I disabled all .esp's and .esm's except for Oblivion.esm. Loaded/saved/exited after each .esm enabled and for the unofficial Oblivion/SI patches .esp's. Then I loaded the FCOM order, loaded/saved/exited. Loaded the FCOM expanded load order and loaded/saved, but this time I played around for about 30 minutes and everything was smooth as can be. This is with all my texture/LoD/Body mods enabled as well. No CTD's or anything close.

I enabled Better Cities and as soon as I did I got CTD in the same area, around the waterfront, loading the waterfront. Managed to get into the WAterfront from the temple district tunnel after 1 CTD during load. 2nd load I got through the gate and all loaded OK, there was a horse outside the door. I tried to get on horse, CTD. Third time, loaded fine and went the same route I did before when I was experiencing CTD's. Ran to the right and jumped in the water swam through the water about to the imperial city bridge and boom, CTD.

Better Cities is the obvious culprit here I believe, I am using v 4.4.2. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Thank you.

-J

EDIT: I tried just Better Cities with no other esp's or esm's loaded except for Oblivion.esm and still experienced crashes with Better Cities. It seems to be only around the Waterfront area, and is quite prominent in certain areas. Namely, the door from the temple district tunnel to the waterfront district. I will often get crashes loading from that door, or soon after loading. Also, a main area that also crashed in my last Oblivion install and I could never find the answer is at the end of the middle bridge. You walk down the bridge in-between the two ships and as you walk up the set of stairs there I almost always get a sudden freeze for a second or two and a CTD w/ error message.

I am using Win 7 x64 if this makes any difference, but this also happened on my macbook pro w/ WinXP. Is nobody else having these issues?

I am going to test now the other cities, but the waterfront district has always given me hell.

Could be a bad mesh, have you installed any mesh replacer mods?

Well it can't possibly overlap with the castle since it's on the other side of the city from the castle. It might well overlap with the city walls, I guess? I'll download and take a look when I get home from work tonight.

This is answered right at the top of the Open Better Cities Description page:

So it's no longer up to date and is no longer updated :)

Well, first, you mention making an OMOD from two folders. That's not what the readme says to do. Readme says to create three OMODs from the three archives, so you should have downloaded three files, then created an OMOD from each (no folders involved at all). When asked whether you want to use the OMOD install scripts say "yes". Then when you activate the OMODs, the main one will ask you the questions.

Ah sweet - got it now. Cheers!!

Hi,

Just installed this - looks incredible, nice work.

However, I'm getting a huge FPS hit, even with the FPS patches installed. I have QTP3 installed which might not be helping.

Is it standard to get such a large hit or is it perhaps related to another mod i have installed?

My PC is

core duo e6600
4 gb Ram
8800 GTX

Any help appreciated

BC does affect FPS, and having other mods installed will of course affect FPS too. Install Streamline, carefully reading the readme to ensure you set it up correctly. Install Oblivion Stutter Remover (it does more than just remove stutter)(requires OBSE).
Replace QTP3 with QTP3 Redimised & Further Reduced (or remove QTP3 like I did). Consider only using some parts of QTP3, not all of it (e.g. remove the rocks, perhaps). Install PyFFI, extract the original Meshes BSA, PyFFI the architecture and rocks folders, then recreate the BSA (no compression). Possibly PyFFI the QTP3 meshes? Ensure no other programs are running in the background while in-game. Install Optimised Distant Land MAX. Avoid VWD mods. Consider enabling Oblivion.exe to use more than 2gb of RAM (only if you have a 64-bit version of Windows).

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16513

On the occasion of the release of the newest Unique Landscape, we needed to release a patch for Better Cities so we took this occasion to add the work done on the meshes by Metallicow (thank you again) and went into further steps in cleaning the cities surroundings for unneeded edits. For now Anvil and Skingrad have been optimized with this new procedure (notice that this wont effect your FPS at all but only enhance compatibility with other mods located in Tamriel around the cities).

This new edition comes with the full pack of the resources to download and no Resources Patch. It has to be done since the meshes from the main pack were updated. So you will need to have 6 bsa in your data folder and not 7 as the "Better Cities - Complement.bsa" doesn't exist anymore.

I installed the QTP3 PYFFI'ed meshes from here: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=26756 . I don't think that would be a problem though.

I have re-installed Oblivion AGAIN (for the 4th time heh) so hopefully, just hopefully it won't happen on this install. Any tips on how to avoid such crashes?

It seems to have happened in each of my Oblivion installs, including on my other computer which is odd. I remember reading that QTP3 is compatible with BC. I use FCOM and the Improved Doors/Trees/Flora series, and just about any Texture replacer I can get my hands on.

Here's my mod list, maybe there is something that is conflicting? This is not in order however, I use BOSS to re-order my files and has yet to not detect any of my mods so it seems trustworthy.

I was hoping for something more relative. I already use that plugin, and it doesn't prevent these BC-related crashes. Any other ideas?

Well that's a little hard, since we don't get the crash ourselves, we have no way of knowing what specifically might help you :)
Have you tried using the separate BC IC ESPs instead of the merged single ESP? Have you tried disabling your meshes folder (rename it)? Are you using any other mods which edit the Waterfront? Have you tried starting a new character to see whether the crash still occurs in a brand new game?

Are you using a 64-bit version of Windows? If not, it's less likely to be any use. Otherwise, it's on http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=23254. Read the directions carefully, and only use it if you feel comfortable with using it after reading the warnings.

EDIT
Just noticed http://www.ntcore.com/4gb_patch.php to another version of the tool to increase memory usage in http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1076274.

Do I need to do a Clean Save to upgrade from BC 4.4.2?

I decided to re-install Oblivion and skip the PYFFI'ed QTP3 meshes. Your hint about it being a corrupted mesh seems to be correct, no crashes anywhere in/near/around anything BC or the Waterfront. Thanks!

I can confirm the 4GB patch on that page is golden. Reduces/eliminates any CTD's due to Oblivion memory leaking/utilizing more ram over time in a heavily modded game. Highly recommended!

In regards to the Fallout3 enabler linked above on Nexus... Do not use it as it is not recommended and will not work well with OBSE or OSR. You've been warned, mwahaha! I was wrong on this. FO3 LAA enabler was once not supported by OBSE, but is now. Sorry for the mix up.

I didn't link to a Fallout3 enabler, it's in the Oblivion section of Nexus. It was created for STALKER but can be used with other EXEs. I believe it is the same one I downloaded months ago before it appeared on Nexus. It works perfectly, and has no problems with OBSE and OSR.

Is there a reason why most of the meshes are not stripified?
The word is strips are better handled by Oblivion engine than tri-shapes.

Presumably PyFFI doesn't do that, since all meshes which can be safely PyFFIed have been PyFFIed.
Other likely reasons can be guessed at when I say:
What is stripified?
What are strips?
What are tri-shapes?

In other words, you're asking why something we don't understand is or is not. The most accurate answer we can give is a blank, glazed stare

TriStrips are not always better than TriShapes, apparently it didn't matter or resulted in better performance to use shapes here.

I doubt that counts for most meshes, architecture meshes generally benefit from strips. If it does then there may be something wrong with the niftoaster.
