Battlefield 3: Thread #5

Post » Sun Nov 27, 2011 6:12 pm

Quick Description

Battlefield 3 (commonly abbreviated to BF3) is a first-person shooter action video game, being developed by EA Digital Illusions CE and to be published by Electronic Arts. The game is set to be released on October 25, 2011 on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and EA Mobile confirmed a port for the iOS platform. It is a direct sequel to 2005's Battlefield 2, but the eleventh installment in the Battlefield franchise.

Battlefield 3 will feature the maximalist combined arms battles that made the series popular across single-player, co-operative and multiplayer modes. It will reintroduce several elements absent from the Bad Company games, including fighter jets, the prone position and 64-player battles on PC. To accommodate the lower player count on consoles, the ground area will be limited for Xbox 360 and PS3, though fly space will remain the same.
During an interview with GameInformer Magazine, EA stated that Commander Mode is unlikely to be included, which was met with some criticism on the EA forum.
The game will feature maps set in Paris, Tehran, Sarajevo, Sulaymaniyah, New York, Wake Island and Oman. As a whole, combat will take place in urban streets, metropolitan downtown areas, and open landscapes suited to vehicle combat.
Battlefield 3 will introduce Battlelog, a free cross-platform social service with built-in text and voice communicator, game statistics and ability to join the game that friend is already playing (both players need to be on the same platform).

So what's the deal with platoons? I'd join the BGSF one if you could be in multiple platoons, but I might be joining one with IRL friends so I'm hesitant to do that. Can you only have one platoon, or more?

You can be in more than one. Whichever you set as your "primary platoon" will be the one whose tags you wear.

Okay, sweet. Denial73 has now applied for the Bethesda Brigades, so whoever is the leader please accept me.

I don't suppose we have any Aussies in the Platoon?

I'm still doing the Campaign at the moment. As soon as I finish it I'll hook up with you guys and we can kick some ass in the Bethesda Brigade. :P

Are we still a member if we joined during the Beta?

I like a lot of things about the launch from browser but the fact that people can send me chat messages while I have the window closed and my computer in sleep mode is a little annoying.

For that I apologize in advance, Spanky. Next time you're on let's play.

What do you mean "pay extra"? As is, buy it?

And 4/10? Yeah, I agree with that for the single player.

I rented the game so I can not play MP without spending an additional 800 msp. I am not willing to do that for something that I will possess for less than a week.

Uh, well, it is an ONLINE game...

Yeah, I don't really know what I was thinking, here I was wanting to rent a game to see if I enjoy the final product enough to spend my hard earned cash on it later on down the line, ya know, when I actually have the cash to spend freely, and I load it up only to see a prompt that says, "pay me my money because you didn't pay full price for the game". So I says, "well how am I supposed to know if I like you enough to pay top dollar for you?" And wouldn't you know I still haven't gotten a response. Probably because I was talking to the box art.

But really, what does your post have to do with mine? I understand that it is a primarily online MP experience but why must I pay additional cash because I didn't purchase the game for full retail value. Its like saying "Yes this is an online game, but the online portion of the game is a DLC".

And yet this is a thread for Battlefield 3, so unless you are intentionally trying to flame, I don't see the point of this post.

Yeah, please don't come here and post stuff like this just to try and get a rise out of people. There are plenty of CoD fans on the forums and I'm sure when MW3 comes out there will be a thread for it that you can post in. :)

Also, sorry Spanky, I missed your message. I'll play next time.

I wish there was a little better notification on Battlelog when you get an invite to a game. It's just a popup and if you're in game or tabbed to another web page, you have no idea that someone wants to play.

I believe he is responding to the topic description.

  • The title is taken directly from a review of the game from Gameinformer. I, and a lot of others, hold their opinion in high respect. If you mistook it for an insult towards COD, I apologize.

  • BF3 Has sold over 5 Million in the first week. While COD will and has sold more, this is a very impressive achievement to say the least. Just goes to show that COD isn't very far from being toppled off its high chair.

  • Why would you ever, ever, think it would be alright to post this in the Battlefield thread? It was obvious a very impolite attempt at flaming.

If you could just not post in this thread, unless its relevant to the game, I'd appreciate it. So far, our threads have continued on nice and calmly. Lets not muck it up. :nono:

Please do not cause flame wars.

I just hope the Beth forums aren't full of BF or COD (naughtyword)boys.

Personally? Spectacular.

The Graphics, given the technology they had to work with, are absolutely gorgeous. The online community isn't as bad as I thought it would be; Hardly anyone camps the jets or choppers, and most Assault/Support classes perform their roles reasonably well. Each class feels uniquely different, and you come up with different playstyles and approaches that it almost seems endless. There's always a carrot dangling in front of you; Whether its that artillery support Mortar, a brilliant new sniper rifle, a upgraded radar for your jet, or that new scope for your LMG, your always working for something; And finally unlocking it and using it just makes all those hours worth it.

I 100% got my money's worth. While the Campaign is pretty fun, and Co-Op can be a blast with a friend, Multiplayer truly makes this game incredible. I highly suggest trying it yourself. (Just don't rent it like Chef up there.. :hehe:)

Hey Bethesda Brigade, any of you guys want to play a few rounds? I need some squad-mates. Also can you guys fill me in on all of the new multiplayer features that weren't in the Beta so I'm not entirely lost when I start?

Someone named Hagibis4 wants to join the platoon. Can anyone confirm whether he is or isn't from these forums so I know whether to make him a leader or not?

So I've given up on trying to fly in this game.. for now. This pretty much ruined my stats. Not that I really care about them, if I did I would play engineer and only do 64 player conquest on Metro :P.

Anyway, here's my profile. http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf3/user/Faderkaka/
Friend my if you want. I could use some people that can kill the guys I spot for once. I might check out the platoon, but I'll do that tomorrow. Now some sleep..

So, I played a couple games last night with Internal Shade and I found that using Battlelog's voice chat was annoying. You had to hold Shift to talk, you couldn't change the key and you couldn't set it to autodetect your voice. Shift happens to be the sprint key which makes being a sniper and talking REALLY difficult.

I'm looking methods we PC players can use to chat other than Battlelog. I'm thinking a Ventrillo or Teamspeak server. Maybe even use Steam chat. Let me know what you guys think would be best.
