Been playing for few hours - the PC keyscontrols are really

For people who haven't seen the game yet (like me) why not wait until you've seen the game until you start complaining, based on the fact someone else doesn't like the controls? You may find them to your liking.

I guess I'll play with a gamepad then. Bethesda and its ports... You have to make the interface FOR PC first then port it to the console. Not the other way around :ahhh:
:lol is that icon at the end of your post sum1 playing skyrim on pc????

not really as just by reading the OP's post its pretty obvious it will be a problem , he's pointing out the interface is awful , and it is. Sure at the end of the day it doesn't stop you enjoying the game but it's puzzling and annoying they didnt spend anytime whatsoever making the PC UI and controls. It's taking the mickey to be honest.

Not surprised, they made this game for console and as usual, leaving it up to the modding community to fix it. Very very disappointed

Thank god we still have Blizzard making PC games who make fantastic interfaces.

And I will continue to buy all their games as I have since around '96 (Diablo). I've already said my piece in another thread, but this had better be fixed.

I thought they said there was a specialized UI. [censored] bethesda and their lies. Every [censored] time.
When it comes to public relations, Bethesda really fail in my book. They have absolutely no integrity.

Does the mouse wheel scroll through the inventory menus? Do you click and drag to rotate items in the inventory view?

Well this svcks but thank you for confirming it. I'm not sure if lots of these reports are user error or the game. Since a lot of the live feed I've seen, the players are having no trouble with controls but they might of had it set up before the feed. I'll probably try PC controls but I doubt they're that bad & if so I'll just sync up my 360 controller.

I was really angry at first but they have really grown on me. Sadly they designed the UI with consoles in mind.

Not sure what all the hubbub is about, I've been using mouse and keyboard the whole time playing and its absolutely fine. A lot better than Oblivion's controls.

You're probably bad and don't know it. It's okay. Some of us have higher requirements when it comes to fluid gameplay, and pausing the game constantly isn't acceptable.

The learning curve for the new UI is 5-10 minutes, tops. After that its smooth as silk.

The UI is one of the least intuitive UI's I've seen.

Don't know what's going on, but ever since I patched the game to the 1.3 laa version, my enter button is no longer responsive, and I can no longer scroll through my favorites menu after pressing q. I tried both my arrow keys, which I remapped the wasd ones too, and my mouse wheel doesn't scroll through them either. :l I tried deleting control map custom and resetting everything but the problem still persists.

The only real issue i have is the extremely limited use of hotkeys, out of all the possible combinations on the keyboard all we get is 1-8?
No excuse for this imo.

It's been said a thousand times on these boards so I'm going to sound like a broken record to some:

Get yourself the controlmap.txt and edit it...you can make the hotkeys anything you want.

Then get yourself Extra Hotkeys to add another 40 hotkeys that you can bind anything to...including a fix for the dual wielding favorites issue.

Then get yourself AutoHotKey to solve the issue with the hard-coded interface keys.

Problem solved.

curious... i'd be interested in seeing a poll of how many people attempted and continue to play the pc with the keyboard using the keyboard arrow keys....

Using keyboard arrow keys is so 1995 and earlier

since the introduction of a first person shooter such as Quake which was truely 3D... the use of the WASD keys has been a very very common thing and rightly so considering the plethora of easy access keys surround it.

Alternatively the numpad is another one... but most aren't setup that way...

I always find it somewhat funny that people still insist on either trying or purposely mapping the directional keys to the ARROWS on the keyboard instead of attempting to use wasd.

i do fully understand if you remap the wasd to esdf giving more reach and easy access to MORE keys surrounding it....

YES the UI isn't very well laid out. .and i'm not entirely a fan of the skyUI mod either.. while it does improve... not in the way i would have preferred.

WARNING: really basic question. For background, bought Xbox360 for my son (6) and found Skyrim for myself. Have not played video games for many years (I was around when Pong game out ...on a B&W tv). I'm having trouble getting used to the two joysticks on the 360 controller used for moving around and looking around (which is also points where spells, etc. are directed). Have watch some youtube videos and these people seen to move with ease while I look like I'm drunk and blind (Shooting flames all over the room). Believe they are using pc's. Are the equivalent controls for a pc easier and more accurate to use than a 360 controller? Do you use the mouse for looking around which is probably less sensitive (using hand/arm) vs a finger joystick? Don't think I'll make it much further (level 9) without improvements... but I love this game and would consider purchasing the pc version if substantially better for these controls. That said, with all the bug discussions on the pc, maybe I should stick with Xbox as at least I get to actually play. Thanks in advance for any insights on the issue.

The mouse allows much more precise control than the xbox controller, so yes, that could be the issue.
But experienced users of that controller can make them work somewhat accurately, but it cannot be anywhere near as precise as a mouse. It simply may be a case of more practice required! :)

As for bugs, we have an in-game command console to get around a lot of the game breaking ones on the PC, which consoles sadly lack.
Plus the PC has more generous specs meaning you face less issues caused by the PS3/Xbox more limited hardware specs.

Edit: But only get it for PC if you have a modern PC with a gaming-grade graphics card (see sticky).

I also use a wireless 360 controller and its perfect for this game on PC...its not like you are playing online where actions per minute matter or anything....give it a shot if you have one(obv a wired one works as well).

Get yourself a gaming board like a N52TE and your problems are solved. I don't even use my keyboard anymore.

Mouse for looking will always be superior however moving with a keyboard not always as good. Ideally a joystick for movement and a mouse for looking would provide the optimal comfort and actions per minute as well as accuracy on look. I prefer the 360 controller for any offline PC game that has good support for it. IF its online say like Battlefield 3 the only thing I would consider using a joystick or controller for would be flying. Same with an MMO obv a controller lacks the amount of buttons needed.
