Bethesda: Misleading Advertising - What we see should be wha

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 1:34 pm

Bethesda, you know i love you but really i don' like this way to do things.
in the trailer you showed the dovakiin having many animations, as when stopping running by the rock and especially when absorbing the dragon soul opening the arms ans shouting "dovakiiiiin!!!"
I read other posts telling you did that for the video to make it cool using the firestorm scroll animation, the thing is that you don't have to make it cool, just DO IT as was meant to be!
i can't stand to see the dovakiin totally not moving and doing nothing when absorbing a dragon soul after the fight it's just riddiculous.

but the most important thing is that you showed a totally different thing on the trailer, a thing that should have been OBVIOUSLY included in the game.

Please stop misleading advertising.

sincerly,
Adelio

I'm not familiar with the second video you refer to, but game trailers routinely have custom animations, sounds effects, and special effects. When it was released Bethesda was up front that it was all made in-engine but some things were made for the trailer. I'm pretty sure they specifically mentioned special animations.

Of all the infinite corners they cut and lack of depth you're going to complain about a dragon soul animation?

Edit: Oh well, at least that's something. You could be one of those "flawed is perfect" types.

What are you talking about?
It was a placeholder, don't be expecting a demo to be the same game.

At least most the game video was actually the game, sans some animations. Too often I've seen video for a game its just a cgi mock up and nothing whats actually in the game.

Placeholders are placeholders. Trailers are never the finished product.

Dragon Age II *cough*

Seriously, OP...game trailers...you can't be THAT new to gaming to see that trailers =/= gameplay, no matter what is implied. Like, when my wife slo-mo shampoos her hair, she STILL doesn't look like the model in the commercial.

At least Todd Howard wasn't misleading anyone when he boasted about the Gilded Engine.

He actually equipped a spell in each hand, they simply added the voiceover. Feel free to equip spells when you absorb souls too.

high resolutions on pc false advertising, greatly improved animations false advertising...

The PC version IS higher resolution and does feature higher resolution textures than the console versions. The animations are also hugely improved from Oblivions...

Agreed, just take a look at the fast food industry. I can only imagine the outrage when someone discovers their burger doesn't look just like the picture.

Unless it say's something like "actual game play" in the trailer what you are looking at in any game trailer should be considered nothing other than hype. Enjoy them for what they are and try to not expect that what you see will actually be the game experience.

Here OP read and learn about advertising and what it's purpose is:

Depending on the country's advertising standards, a stripped down, highly optimised build of the game using 16x the released textures running on hardware not available to the general public can still count as "actual game play". Also terms like fastest, largest etc may be allowed without proof. So yea if its a trailer or an advertisemant lower your expectations.

The fact that all adv is misleading should not be of inspiration for serious industry, in my opinion the target should be to become better than the other, not just do bad the same...-__-"

and yes i play on PC and fortunatly the modder community is much more skilled than beth texture department. (http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=711 just an example)

I know they want to sell, but there are some other brands do not use these kind of tricks and they sell much too (never heard of arenanet for example?)

I am huge TES fan I just do not agree with this kind of adv policy, they sell also without the need doing this.

and lemme shout out loud this....."DOVAKIIIIIIIINN!!!!!!!"

omg i'm going to shout this from my room window next time i kill a dragon mahuahuahuahuahauh

My PC's 5760x1080 resolution while playing this game count? I hope it does, its certainly better then the sub 720p that the filthy console users suffer with.

/how do you kill that which has no life?

I agree it would be cool to have those extra animations, but I have a question...

Do you do this for every game? For almost every game that I've played, I've seen things in the trailer not in the game. They do it for theatrical purposes. I'm sorry but the fact that you actually made a thread to complain about this is pretty hilarious.

The reasons couse i've made this thread is couse I LOVE Tes series and Skyrim, i don't care about the others, I just want Beth to be better than others, that's all, is not a matter of doing free critics just for the pleasure to do it (is not a pleasure at all) is just a way to say them "hey guys i love your work but i bet you can do even better!"

I guess you pissed that Battelfield 3 don't looks as good as the trailer with the real life footage meshed into it ? Despite the short comming's of ALL TeS games, they are all still amazing and NO Development studio has ever come close to making an Open world RPG such as Bethesda games with anywhere near the same level. The few games that even try ( gothic/Two world's ) don't even come close to reaching the plateau that Bethesda games sit on. In short , yes flawed is perfect , specially since perfect does not, never has and never will exist.

Talk about false Advertising on Trailers, "Dead Island"... i was so excited to play that game, when it arrived it was boring... i just played half way through and totally got bored, had to wait for 2 weeks to start playing it again, and only because i am hardcoe Zombie fan.

Oh and someone mentioned the resolution of the textures were really good... YEAH RIGHT... Todd Howard said:

"it has higher textures"

i dont know how true is that since i dont own the Xbox360 version, but ohhh guess what? i seen Texture mods that increases 8 Times the resolution of the default ones and my old HD5770 with 1Gb does not even breaks a sweat... so yeeeeah... they are really good.

Let me show you couple pics, first screen Default "High" Resolution:

http://i.picoodle.com/840iun5e

This one is a Modded "Medium" Resolution:

http://i.picoodle.com/7e6iun5n

This one is a Modded "High" Resolution:

http://i.picoodle.com/84eiun6y

There was a even bigger Resolution pack that i havent had the time to download because its arround 800mb and i get lazy on my 1Mb DSL.

Now, we all agree the first screen could look twice as better than the second or third pic... when Bethesda says "it has higher textures" i wasent expecting they ported the game from consoles and tweak it on a Pentium4 with HT for an GeForce 7900GT.

*Todd Yeah it does, obviously the PC version looks better. It has higher textures, it can run much higher resolution and a lot more graphic features. We tend to show it on 360 so that it’s a good baseline for people to look at. So when they then see the PC version it’s going to go up. We’d rather do that than have people see the 360 later and it takes a step down. *

1: Where is the DX11 Support Todd Howard speak of in this article:

http://www.tomshardware.com/news/The-Elder-Scrolls-Skyrim-Todd-Howard-RPG-DirectX-11,12495.html

http://www.strategyinformer.com/news/11999/howard-skyrim-mostly-a-directx-9-game-could-expand-dx11

Where is the 4 CPU Cores support that is mentioned in Skyrim System Requirements?

http://cyri.systemrequirementslab.com/CYRI/anolysis.aspx?name=The-Elder-Scrolls-V:-Skyrim&id=11231&session=0c86a2b8-ae2e-4a85-a708-8c015ec4433e

Where are the massive 5 Cities Todd Howard Mentioned in this Interview?

http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/31/todd-howard-on-skyrims-worthwhile-glitches-mmos-and-when-big-i

Where are the Improved Animations that Todd Howard keep talking about? Jumping feels akward and when Dual Wielding just look at your char Feet:

*Todd Howard Quote*
“3rd person, with the new animation system, is better than ever, and people really seem to enjoy playing in it, seeing their character,” he admitted. “But it’s primarily designed as a first person game. I see the 3rd person as an extra, and certain things like picking up objects, talking to people, whatever, are always harder in 3rd person. Some people on the team think the combat is better in 3rd person because they can see their surroundings better. Personally, I usually play 1st person unless I’m just running through the wilderness and want a different view.”

I also remember a video interview and he said that they ditch Speedtree and created their own, that the trees were vastly improved... but heck you seen the Trees in Oblivion how much they move back and forth on storms? havent seen that in Skyrim.

Still Skyrim is to date the BEST Damn RPG i have played EVER, but come on… this game perfoms Horrible (PC) and i am getting tired of the wacky feets when sheating my weapon or dual casting.

I been busting Todd Howard and all his false advertising Interviews in the Bethesda blog, so far they kinda dont liked being proven wrong because they been deleting my posts, only one made it through hahaha.

I love Bethesda i honestly i do, and i take Skyrim as the BEST DAMN RPG EVER and Game of the Year, but FALSE ADVERTISING IS FALSE ADVERTISING, plain and simple.
