Where did you get that from ?
I remember Todd saying in an interview more than half a year ago that they DID made spears, mounted combat etc,but decided to not include them because they wouldn't fit the gameplay style/balance he wanted the game to have.
They would "steal the spotlight".
Steal the spotlight my [censored], they'll try and flog them those gullible enough to pay for DLCs containing features stripped from the main game or that should have been considered as part of the main development cycle rather than part of "crazy week".
OT:
One of the reasons why I like the MMO community is that they don't let the companies get away with it, esp the WoW playerbase.
The last time Blizzard tried it they tried to flog a "premium service" called the Real ID Party Feature. It allowed you to invite people on your Real ID friends list (friend list for all blizzard games based on your email address) into your dungeons when they are on a different server.
As soon as they announced it they had a massive burst of outrage from a large number of people telling them they would have to explain to their shareholders a massive drop in profit from all the people who unsubbed.
Blizzard included it as a free patch feature soon after.
I might have missed something, but I though the point the video was making was that they could put anything into the game, just not everything. So I don't understand the pople who are stomping around with their "this should have been in the original!". If these are teasers of what might be in future releases for the game, brilliant, I can't wait. But I imagine there's a bit more testing and stuff to be done beyond the few seconds set piece we saw for eash thing in the video.
For me its because some of the things like mounted combat, spears, SSAO should have been no brainers and should have been considered and approved during the main development cycle.
Oblivion had a mounted combat Mod, SSAO was added to Oblivion through mods and SSAO should be part of ANY modern game, and spears have been request for YEARS.
