Biased to NCR

Well it isn't really House's side quest then.
It's more FotA's really.

Well, its the closest thing to a House side quest, not counting the snowglobes.

There are, in total, more NCR quests than Legion's quests. However, many of the NCR quests present the player with an option that hurts the NCR.
Spoiler
For example, you can get the group in Camp Golf addicted to Psycho or give fake intel back to the NCR about Cottonwood Cove. Not to mention that siding with the Powder Gangers is another way to kneecap the NCR. Or the hilarity of calling down the Helios laser on the NCR patrol.

So, there is a bias, but I don't think its too bad. My Legion character is having a blast sabotaging the efforts of the NCR right under their nose. And, as the game goes on, my character will outright start killing NCR on sight. From a gameplay perspective, I like that the Legion isn't that active in the game world. In too many games there is this perfect symmetry between factions. Personally, I think symmetry is boring. Its nice to be the bad guy, but also (kind of) the underdog.

And from a story standpoint, the NCR has a pretty bad rap.
Spoiler
Everywhere you go, the NCR is in dire need of help. They can't control prisoners, they can't send more soldiers, they can't kill a handful of ants, they can't even protect their president from assassins. Playing for the NCR, you are basically singlehandedly preventing them from being defeated.
You really can't find a more corrupt and inefficient bunch of people around. They're really a nice foil for the brutal, yet disciplined and efficient, Legion.

This is true! This is why mycharacter was drawn to the Legion. NCR already hated me due to the Powder Gang incident, and myimpression of the NCR wasthat they are sortof a bloated group and reachign far beyond their means. The Legion's stability and harsh justice which mirrors that of the wasteland charmed me

I'm not as disappointed as many are with the faction bias. It's better than in FO3. I guess I like the NCR so I am glad to side with them, where as in FO3 I wanted to work for the Enclave but was forced to help the BOS, even though I can't stand them.

Remember that the average Legionary doesn't like you. You're a Profligate. Why would they give you quests to do?

Couple things I noticed:

1) Doesn't the whole game take place on the NCR's 'side' of the river?
2) You guys do realize that in several missions, you can work to sabotage the NCR, right?

Do the "bad" factions have any companions even? I mean if Boone is with you it's pretty much guaranteed that you won't be doing any Legion missions since he's just going to run in guns a blazing.

Yeah I was thinking of joining the Legion for a while, but their low amount of side quests really irritated me.

The NCR has a lot more side quests and such, but they're pretty weak and inefficient. They can't even take Primm back, and it has all of 7 convicts in it.

But then I finally remembered the best faction in the Fallout Universe. Perfect efficiency, fun to be in, and stylish.

Plus Butch is one mean hair stylist.

BTW, has anyone found a barber or plastic surgeon in the Mojave Wastes?

I started my Legion play through, I'm neutral with the Legion and I try to get to the Fort to start but they keep attacking me. No I'm not wearing NCR armor and I'm accepted by NCR. What am I doing wrong?

But on topic, ya I was kinda disappointed at how siding with NCR is kinda shoved at you.

You do any NCR quests?
When I played for Legion I decided that I was going to kill every NCR I found, so uhm, I never did any of their quests.
Maybe that's why they are pissed off at you.

I did the quest where I cleared the road for the caravans at Mojave Outpost to get the Service Rifle. But other then that I haven't done anything. I went to Nipton and I took the quest where I tell the NCR about CL and I gained fame with CL. But I got to Cottonwood Cove and they all fire at me.

I look at this thread and see lots of people who don't want to deal with the consequences of allying with a band of warmongering slavers. You threw your lot in, now deal with it.

The lack of quests is understandable, but complaining that the majority of the wasteland hates you? :violin: Seriously... what did you expect?

I'm, uh... sorta glad the CL seems to be smaller than the NCR.

Why?

Spoiler
Well, I just couldn't let that Vulpes bastard live after what he did, and I had twenty five sticks of dynamite and my bonus grenade rifle started whispering to me... And so, the assassins started coming after me. At level four. I'm glad they don't come after you that often, else this game would be unplayable.

Hell, that may be the reason the CL is so small, quest based. They anticipated tons of people killing him, and blocking up a majority of the content for them would piss them off.

Instead they pissed those who joined up with legion first. Smart move. Really.

My complaint isn't that the wasteland hates me. It's that NCR BY ITSELF has 22 or so side quests. Now siding with the Legion means you can't do some other sidequests, which I would be fine with, if the Legion had as many as the NCR. Let's say NCR and Legion both had 22 side quests. NCR gets you liked with pretty much everyone except the Legion so it opens up more side quests for you, so let's just make the count like 35. Arbitrary number. I would still LOVE to side with the Legion if they had 22 quests, even if the NCR had 35. As it stands, the NCR still has 35 (or whatever number the NCR quests + random quests given by NPC's friendly with the NCR is) while the Legion only has 4.

I also love that the Mojave hates me because I sided with the Legion. I mean, it just adds to the immersion. It'd be weird if I just destroyed someone's home and then they told me to go collect some stuff or something. But I'd also like for the Legion to, you know, actually LIKE me. As it is I feel like Ephialtes from 300. I mean yeah, I sided with the Persians 'cause they seem cool and all, but they don't even let me DO [censored]. They just threw a handful of coins at me and told me to shoo after I singlehandedly won the Battle of Thermopylae for them.

How many people are gonna kill the insane slave-driving murder squad? Compare that to the number of people who are going to join him.

I found very little to do CL wise, imo the games very linear it's impossible to even freelance, if you go the opposite route and side against them early you have nerfed death squads facing you..
So yep I think you get shafted quest wise unless you play abc with how you play the main questline, gah I've just played making myself top dog all through the game and now I have no clue how to end the friging game.
Bugs are one thing but making such a linear game in a sandbox world where you can kill anyone anytime just leads to kinks.

That said I love the game, next character I'll just follow to vegas no side trips, no faction spotting, not untill later on hopefully that works.

It would've been nice to have more CL quests, but I think that CL wasn't central to the theme they're going for: War never changes. By having most of the quests from one faction, you get a more in depth look at this, at least that's how I saw it. NCR is either generally seen by the populace as either good or at least "not bad", but as you do more and more of the quests, you see how it's hampered by it's overreaching, ineptness, corruption and beauracracy, as it tries to solidify it's position in the area. They have a lot of good men in the field (some bad), but are limited in what they can do by the horrible leadership. I think this exploration would be diluted if these types of quests were split between the 2 factions, and redundant if you had the same quests for both. Plus, CL being a totalitarian regime, the message might not be as appropriate.

I find it interesting though how people brand CL as basically totally evil from the way they prosecute war. The Roman Legions were just as brutal in their warmaking as CL is, yet Roman citizens were not oppressed people. Even Cass tells you that there are advantages to being a trader in CL lands once you accept them. I think it would be a great DLC to run around the CL lands and see the dichotomy between their warfare and their society.
