Biased to NCR

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 1:36 pm

Anyone notice how heavily bias the game is to joining the NCR? For a game with so many "choices" Im getting tired of NCR being shoved down my throat, the game just keeps pushing me into helping them. I cant walk two feet without bumping into a dozan NCR missions, meanwhile its a pain to find any work for the Legion. If the legion is ment to be a major faction the player can help, its seriously lacking in content. I've found like 3 quests to help the legion compared to like 20+ missions NCR npcs keep giving me.

Anyone having better luck? I wonder how this game passed the design stage like this. Its nearly impossible to find work as a Legion Agent.

Guess what? The Wastelanders feel just the same way about them. ^_^

Though I find enough quests on my own, really. It's just that the NCR really, really wants that Mojave area for it.

Yeah I'm actually kinda pissed at that, I found one CL mission to do and then there's been way too many NCR missions.
Worst part is that a lot of outposts are under NCR control so a lot of outposts says things like "I'd stone you to death if I weren't civilized" which makes me want to kill everyone in sight.

My CL run was hell, join them the ncr hate you, and the ncr has many bases, many important ones, the legion not so much. Luckily I will never join the legion again.

Maybe it's just a bug on my version but with NCR I'm "Vilified" but every time I see them they are non-hostile but say things like "Why don't you just leave to the other side of the river?".
So even though they hate me not much is happening.
If this is a bug I really want them to fix it.
I want NCR to shoot on sight damnit.

Want them to attack wear legion armour.

But Legion armor has such awful DT. :(
Bah, I'll just have to use it once I find the real Legion quests.
(Seriously though, where the hell are all the Legion quests?)
(I've done more quests for Powder Gangers who aren't even part of the Big Three.)

Seperate, but un-equal! Legionairres depressed at lack of jobs, food, merchants and [censored].

Sounds like this deserves a civil-rights march on DC.

FO3 Crossover DLC!

I am currently on good terms with both even though I am on CL's side because I don't want to get killed so quickly. I prefer to sabotage them all, mwahahahahaha.

Its worse then I thought, companions will refuse to join you too if you work for Caesar. But you dont have any companions that refuse to join you if you work for the NCR. Theres no choice in the game, it seems like siding with Caesar is virtually an illusion, this is pretty disappointing.

It may have something to do with more RL issues than in-game balance. The Legion are a bunch of psychopaths, so promoting that really takes the game out of the realm of less than advlt entertainment. Regardless of how we may think, lawmakers and policy people in governments around the world take a different view, and it's very easy to clamp a restricted classification on something...and we saw that with F3, having to have morphine changed to med-x for the game to get an MA rating in Australia.

Absolutely there is a choice. You can choose to side with the psychopathic slave runners bent on conquering the Mojave Wasteland and ruling with an iron fist. Understandably, not many people will be very happy with that choice. That second part is what's important: Realistic reactions to the things you do.

It is very biased. I've explored a good 70-80% of the map by now and I've only come across 2 real Legion encampments. I was planning on siding with them in my next playthrough, if I even do one, but there seems to be absolutely no point to it because the NCR gives many many more quests.

I'm vilified with the Legion and I was able to walk right into one of their largest bases without anyone shooting me. I thought being vilified was going to mean I would get shot at by them, not insulted by them.

Lets not kid ourselves here, the NCR arent the "Good Guys", neither is the Brotherhood of Steel. Possibly the only faction you can consider good guys is the Followers, the rest are just various shades of grey, so whats the big deal? Most people in the wasteland dont want the NCR either.

secondly, its a RPG, its not immersive to artificially gimp one faction while insisting they are a major faction the player can work with just because they are "psychopathic slave runners". Whos to say some people's player isnt a Psychopathic Cannibal killer? Your using your RL morals to judge a RPG game when it should be our characters who decide what path they take in their virtual life.

finally, its the wasteland, life is harsh there, Psychopaths run wild, there shouldn't be restrictions on players when we can already slaughter and dismember townsfolk and rob them blind and make some truly evil decisions like in Fallout 3 when you can participate in the kidnapping and enslavement of a 6 yr old girl.

I think the NCR are the good guys. Yeah they're bureaucratic and aggressive, but that's exactly what an anarchic wasteland needs. Wipe out the Legion psychos and create some kind of order in Vegas. Sure the NCR makes mistakes and has opportunists in their ranks, but that's unavoidable in any bigger organization.

I agree, some people's characters may be evil so go ahead join the legion, but the NCR is not bad or 100% good in my opinion. I keep seeing people say ohh the people of the wasteland do not want the NCR, that may be true from some wastelanders, but i see other people in the wasteland saying they dont agree with everything the NCR does but they accept them, and what they are trying to do. other than the legion which is made of crazies and killers, So im going to pick the lesser of the evils, NCR. I do agree that the game is bias even tho i support the NCR. I like BOS from fallout3, and the followers of Apocalypse as my other choices for the wasteland.

Yeah, the game is non-linear, with free choice. Except it IS slightly linear, and almost everything depends on you helping out/siding with the NCR. Like

Spoiler

I found a sheriff for Primm, but the NCR wouldn't grant him a pardon. Then they took over and declared marshal law. If the game was free, I could have set him up as sheriff and then took on any NCR who disagreed.

Well then, now I really know what I want for a DLC.... An expansion that makes Legions' role larger. (more quests, more NPC's, expand map (Meaning: Fix the game))
I haven't finished the game yet but seriously, I've found one quest... One!
I've killed around 20 NCR NPC's and "failed" their quests.
I'm loving the game but I knew it wasn't going to be perfect, but I never thought it would be this awfully biased. :(
Maybe there's more to it which I haven't found but until then I'm really disappointed.

Example: I found a small Legion camp with 2 powder gangers tied up.
But none of the Legionaries had dialogue to initiate.
At that camp shown in one of the gameplay demo's there was one NPC named Dead Sea.
He had one quest.
No other NPC there even had a name nor could I initiate any form of dialogue with them.
But the NCR camp on the other hand had like at least 5 named NPC's and I lost 2 or 3 quests from killing them all.

im vilified with the NCR and they will shoot me on site. Thankfully, ive ambushed some of their scouting parties to repair my NCR gear and sneak around the base. though, i find it hilarious:

I took a quest from an NCR outpost when i was neutral so i left it alone, got vilified, wore NCR gear, completed the quest, and the guy still knew exactly who i was and was nice to me. the moment i took off the NCR stuff, they all started shooting at me...

But yes, it is very biased towards the NCR. i havent seen any encampments for the Legion.

I have the feeling it doesn't matter what you do before you hit the New Vegas Strip. Once you hit the strip, you have to start committing to a major faction...

I just completed my first run of the game today (beat the game) and I was for sure an enemy of the NCR by the end.

Spoiler
In my playthrough I took the route of siding with Yes Man (Independence for New Vegas) and the game ended with me killing the NCRs General and pretty much ridding New Vegas of both the NCR and the Legion

It's bias in the sense that people will not like you if you join the murderous slavers, yes, but that makes sense. The trick to realize is that you can support the Legion but also work for the other factions as long as you "play ball" a bit. You don't need to shoot NCR on sight just because you support the Legion, at least not early in the game.

Also just because the Legion playthrough is shorter with less quests doesn't mean the whole game is, you can play it again as NCR or freelance. I'm saving the "evil" Legion playthrough for next time and I won't mind it being shorter. Heck, you could finish the first two Fallout games in 10 minutes.
