I'm a bit surprised that so many men play Skyrim.

This is just a stereotype. There are guys out there that like video games too.

Started active playing PCgames since doom1, waaaaaaay back, and from then till now im still wondering why people are so goddamned biased on girl gamers. Whats the big deal for crying out loud.
Was a few years a member of a cyberclub, lan-gaming and the likes, there where girls there to, wasnt a big deal. Some svcked but then again some of the guys svcked even worse. Like gaming is a male only thing, grow up already :D

I prefer to play as a female character. It feels weird to play as a guy. Except in a lot of games I'm not given an option.

I'm not my character, so it doesn't matter to me. My GW1 main is an extremely tall, black, ex-pirate mercenary who manipulates her enemies into killing themselves. My main in Skyrim is a male, Breton thief with conjuration support. Both are equally not me.

When it comes to something like Pokemon, I tend to play as a girl, since that really is just me in the Pokeworld.

I know lots of women who play Skyrim. Of the women I know who won't give Skyrim a try, they either only play casual games or they specifically don't like FPS-ish stuff. I know just as many guys in any of those categories.

I play as a female most of the time too. It works out well when girlfriends want to play dress-up with your character. That seems to be less popular with male characters. :D

A lot of women play video games, especially RPG's.

They just don't broadcast it because there are a lot of creepy dudes in the video game community (including these forums) who jump at the chance to make a big deal out of it.
I hate to say "turn off", but it is, when a female announces their gender for no apparent reason. It's not like I go around saying "I'm a dude" every time I get a chance (Oh wait, I just did, didn't I). I suppose I can understand the compulsion, but I think it's really cool for girls to be one of the guys.

EDIT: I guess I didn't consider if someone called me a "she". Not sure how I would react. I suppose if I was sticking around and getting to know people, I would correct them, but if it was just some random place, I probably wouldn't bother.

Back more on topic, I have also been a little suprised to see so many females playing Skyrim. I am happy to see it, for some reason. I guess it makes gaming seem more socially acceptable, or something.

You'll be suprised that 98% of those women are actually men.
63% of all statistics are made up on the spot.

There's this really dumb cute girl at my job who apparently plays skyrim (when her boyfriend isn't playing it), so nothing suprises me, this is a game for a wide variety of audiences.

I know some pretty beautiful girls at work that play the game almost as much as me. People you wouldn't expect play this game. I am a huge gamer, but I am also a barstar, if you seen me out and about you wouldn't expect I have ever touched a videogame. Gaming is the new fad you know. I am also a huge fan of rippers, and I befriended one somehow, actually I know how. My drunk [censored] decided to get a lapdance and we got to chatting and she was like I am a huge nerd and went on about skyrim and now we are gamen buddies.

One of my female former co-workers was a huge FO:NV nerd. I'm sure she's playing Skyrim now. Another one of my former female co-workers was a huge WOW fan, as is my sister. My gf is a huge Diablo fan, though she tends to prefer Wii games these days (DDR, sheesh). Plenty of girl gamers out there. Not much to be surprised about.

Why would you be surprised that women actually play video games? Where has the genre become so exclusive to males? I just don't get the "herpaderp giggles" with this subject any longer.

So true in such a very disturbing way that is the interwebz.

I see what you did there...

I don't think any girls play Skyrim, they are too busy swooning at Justin Bieber and Edward Cullen.

98% is a bit harsh, I personally know a few women who play Skyrim. I'd say more like 70 - 80% depending on the time of day.

Can't a girl state her gender *and* be one of the guys?

Welcome to the world, dude.

Almost all my gamer circle is female. A lot of them play Skyrim, some have moved on to SWTOR by now.

I am bit suprised to see so many girls who use forums.

The forums I used to frequent, had 1 or 2 girls out of 100. (or like 98% male)

Another one of these kind of threads...."OMG, girls play video games!"

I really don't get why people are shocked about this, there are a lot more women gamers then people beleive there are.

Been playing video games since the days of Pong, don't plan on stopping any time soon.

I rather be playing a video game then cackling with other females and shopping.

I had a girlfriend overseas and we use to play Phantasy Star Online and then Everquest, constantly.

That was a long time ago, but it seemed very rare for anyone there to be female. So, I do believe things have changed.

I don't know... but on all the skyrim forums I go to, people always say "he" when they talk about me. They assume I'm a guy. It's kind of annoying.

It's probably your avatar. People have a natural tendency to deduct someone's six from these on first impression.

This is how society works now. There are more and more girls getting into gaming all the time. You add a game with lots of design choice and customization and you gain a lot of girl gamers.

This happened more than a few years ago, but I still remember it. I was playing a browser based game, and it had links to those voting sites. You vote for the game, increasing its popularity on thier list, and you get some kind of in game bonus. Anyways, one of the sites had various video game news. And one of thier "articles" discussed how the majority of MMORPG players were women. I dont know what kind of "evidence" they used, aside from avatars, profile pics or the like. Now, I think we can all agree that male players will create female characters in the hopes of getting guys to give them free things.

As for reality, I would have to say that I know more men who play games than women. Though I'm willing to bet, that on the whole, the dynamic has been shifting, and more women are playing than in years past. Myself, I'm a man.
