Bring the Legion back!

The Roman Empire was more or less like this but you don't see them as "the scum of the History".

In fact, most people have high opinions about them.

That would be because they weren't like that at all.

See, you're looking at this with a modern day perspective and that is not how to do it.

Slavery? Do you even know how widespread slavery actually is in Fallout? Not to mention even the NCR used to practice slavery. Even living under NCR rule isn't that much better than mere slavery.

And women? Women in CL can't join the army so that by default ensures them a low rank in their society (Slave), but they do it to ensure future generations in CL. And be real here, how long is it exactly women got their rights in our own society? Think about it.

Who knows what exactly would happen to the Legion once they get their "Pax Romano".

How would you know? You haven't seen their society, let alone a single town.

Records still exist from that time period. It's called a history book. Read a few.

NCR butchers whole villages, enslaves anyone they don't gut or crucify, treat women as pvssyl and built and entire "society" around brutality, cruelty and ignorance? You're legion fanboy side is showing again.

Hey, nice of pot to come in and call the kettle black.

Butchering villages? Oh you're talking about Nipton right? Wiping that off the face of the Mojave was bound to happen sooner or later. Gutting? "Uhh... crucifixion on its own doesn't sound horrible enough so I'm gonna spice it up by adding gutting in there, lolololol". Nice one. Crucifixion? A way of installing fear into ones enemies and all would-be criminals. Women? Already addressed that one. And what can I say, a brutal wasteland requires brutal actions.

You should stop by more often Coake, it's always good to see you, man.

I would at some point like to see the Legion make a return. Not as a military dictatorship but perhaps the empire on the brink of collapse or the brink of democracy/technology.

The thing I WISH the Developers would listen to is the constant wish for a Faction siding Brotherhood. I'd have loved nothing better than to see the Brotherhood charge out of their bunker and occupy New Vegas or play a larger role than just a side quest and a potential alliance with one faction.

What about betraying their own soldiers?

Spoiler
The guard at Camp Searchlight have been leaving holes in their patrols at night. You are to enter the camp and go directly to the Fire Station. Once inside you will find several canisters, open as many of them as you can and report back to me.

Vulpes Inculta

Those men were sent on a suicide mission. Their loyalty was exploited. So much for honour. It seems to me that the Legion is just Sallows attempt to justify to himself his decision to help the Blackfoot to save his own skin.

NCR slaughtered most of Bitter Springs and are more than eager to have the Boomers wiped out despite them being isolationists who won't touch you if you don't go near their territory and they are also ready to slaughter Khans and Jacobstown too, despite both of them are trying to keep away from NCR.
And hell, if they don't kill the people they don't like then they force them off "their" lands.
And if they don't kill or force them off their lands then they force them to abide by their corrupt and inefficient laws and force very heavy taxes upon them, some cannot afford these taxes and will have to evacuate from NCR lands.
They also use torture and does not care about how many troops die for their cause and enlist people with too little training just to send them out to die.

I dunno about you but NCR sounds brutal too.
At least Legion is honest about what they do.
With NCR you never know what crap their failed government will spit at you.
With Legion as long as you follow their rules you won't be touched.

Spoiler
Hell, in one of the endings they (NCR) force FotA out of Vegas! Come on! FotA only wishes to help people, and they force them out!?

Hard to tell what exactly happened - I mean, what the funk was that huge rad scorpion doing there? And it's no secret that recruits are expendable.

I want them back, but I want them to be lore accurate, each one of them hardened Spartan-esque soldiers; I want to see their society, get a better light on their treatment of slaves, I want to see their economy (One of the dudes in the Fort will tell you that industry is growing back in Legion Land), and I want to see a giant rally where Caesar addresses the public and all of them, slaves and soldiers, unite in awe of him. All of these things, only all of these things together, will vindicate the Legion for me.

why does everybody seem to ignore the fact that legion territory is virtually free of raiders of any sort. There ways are not perfect but there territory is much safer

I'm no fan of the NCR, but the Khans had it coming. They raid NCR caravans and then complain when the NCR retaliates. There just whiny raiders.

And I'm no fan of butt-ugly FEV rejects, the super mutants at Jacobstown have it coming too.

Something the NCR has yet to achieve, despite being around for longer.

How exactly? Even the Legion would leave them alone.

The Romans took men and women as slaves. Romen women were held in a much higher light than breeding stock. Romen citizens were free so to say. Ceasers legion is a nation of slaves.

I ve seen many groups in fallout. From pure tribals to men in power armour with plasma rifles, and CL are the only ones dumb enough to cut out half their population and deem them " breeding stock "

There are not enough people around to do such a thing. Not only is it pure evil its pure stupidity as well. A woman will shoot someone in the head same as a man. As cl can see from they female ranger that is killing vet scrubs with her bare hands, once trained women can also be effective killers in other ways as well.

They have no excuse.. Caeser was a Follower, and he knows better.

Excuse me, but enslaving only woman is bad, but woman and men are ok? WTF!

Also, you are forgeting that women in Ancient Rome couldn't vote, didn't had political rights and only earn property if the husband dies. In case of divorce, they were left with nothing.
Remember the concept of marriage in "Ancient Rome"?
The word matrimonium, the root for the English word "matrimony," defines the institution's main function. Involving the mater (mother), it carries with it the implication of the man taking to woman in marriage to have children. It is the idea conventionally shared by Romans as to the purpose of marriage, which would be to produce legitimate children; citizens producing new citizens.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marriage_in_ancient_Rome

Very different from CL, hun?

And CL take men as slaves, usually picking them at youth and train them as legionnaries.

As I said before, the whole problem of CL is the lack of perspective in the game, they are too black and white: you don't have a city controlled by Legion, so you can't see what's like to live in their rule.
Raul don't have a negative opinion of Legion, for example.

And after playing the four main factions playthroughs I still think that Yes Man is the best choice of all.

What did they do? They haven't bothered anyone is decades! The NCR has even banned discrimination against non-violent mutants. This is just pure discrimination, hiring mercs to insight violence from a peaceful settlement, it is damned underhanded.

This is why I like the Enclave and Brotherhood. There is a lot of gray area. The Enclave does horrific things, but in the name of science, and their technology is unmatched. Their means can be argued to be "good", but it can be argued the ends don't justify the means.

Well it's not science but rather:

As the embodiment of the executive branch, I bear the burden of ensuring the survival and prosperity of the United States and of humanity itself. A heavy burden and yet if it means the return of the earth to our children and to their children, I bear it gladly. - President Richardson :fallout: Fallout Enclave

That is why the Enclave does what it does; hardly an un-sympathetic goal.

I like how he points out the end goal of a genocidal fascist regime and calls them gray, but completely ignores the goals and pros of the Legion, such as complete safety and unity, and calls them pure villains.

I'd like to believe that it's the power armor that makes people give them a pass for their actions. There's a reason that people like the BoS so much and it's definitely not because they like to hoard tech for themselves.

Ehhh... i'd be fine with them coming back eventually, but the (probable 3/4th chance) loss at Hoover Dam must have dealt a blow to their entire group's morale. So as such a future version of the CL should, imo, be not as 100% devoted to Caesar (or Lanius... or whoever else is in charge) and be more questioning of their system (at least some of them).

You do realize Legionnaires would kill themselves a thousand times than questioning their leader?

That's what they say, though i'm sure there are many more people like Silus in the Legion. And any of the child soldiers were built up to believe in the Legion's power above all else yes? If that is correct, then the Legion losing at Hoover Dam twice and the inevitable death of their leader must knock at least a few of them on their butts and have them thinking.

I have to agree here, the Brotherhood's gerontocratic military junta of a regime aside, all of the factions have pros and cons of varying ratios, what the would-be supporter or criticiser makes of them is their own will.

Your right, wearing skirts and dressing up like Romans, "emulating" them by being slavers but dismissing their brilliant battle tactics and technology in favor for stupid suicidal wave tactics and shunning basic medicine like
Rad-X and Rad-Away simply because it goes against their philosophy of being backwards.

You nailed it right on the head.

Silus got captured with intentions of being freed (Which resulted in no favorable outcomes for him).

And it's not exactly the absolute power of the Legion they're raised to believe in, It's Caesar. Caesar's will is the will of the Legion.

And Caesar is doomed to die, lol

No matter what, it seems to me that there will be a change in the CL soon. For better or for worse (for the Legion itself or the world in general) idk. Lanius would probably be the end of the CL though, imo.

Why do people say this? You obviously know nothing of Ancient Rome if you believe slaves were treated well.

I never said "well". Certainly better than Caesar's Legion.
