But was it console commands " Mod " or actually adding new stuff as in new models, textures ect?

Console commands are NOT mods...

Nooooo! Don't lose hope! I know it's a very, very, VERY off chance of this happening... but why can't Skyrim have has many DLC as Rock Band does (which is REALLY freaking annoying, BTW, having to skip through about 30 of those add-ons for a music game. :gun: ).

But you never know, and it would be a good way for Bethesda to become even better with fans if they did.

It would get them and the maker of the mod a little more money, Bethesda doesn't really have to do much to the mod, and it would make the fan base love them even more (as long as the mods are reasonably priced).

I know I would spend a little money on some, at least. :tes:

Still gonna wait for a game where someone uses a spare button like one of the arrows to turn on console and to be able to upload mods. Easily possible

I still can't believe some people are saying its impossible with the current console hardware when Bethesda said it DOES work themselves. They have tested it on dev consoles. Please stop being ignorant and saying its impossible, clearly its not.

This is important. Sure vanilla Skyrim is fun, but there are mods and Kit Creation areas that enhance the game and add extra, worthy content. It seems a waste to just leave them for PC. Don't we as Xbox and PS3 consumers have a right to fair content? I mean we paid the freaking 200 USD plus another 60 USD for the game, what is the point in stopping us from enhancing a game?

You do realize PC players have already paid more than they should in the case of Skyrim right? Selling games on PC don't need to pay any royalties to Microsoft or Sony. Selling a digital copy(which consists of more than 50% of total PC market) of PC game gives Bethesda 70% of the money back, but selling a console copy only gives Bethesda 30% or less back.

Usually publishers repay PC gamers back by setting the price slightly lower than consoles copies(e.g. $59.9 for console, and $49.9 for PC).

But for Skyrim PC games and console copies are the same price. So you see?

But WHY. Why do consoles need to be closed environments? It's ridiculous! I mean now I'm tempted to buy Skyrim for the PC just so I can play on the creation kit!

Because consoles are not meant to be cheap PC's; they are game appliances. Ie: toss away and get a new one. As for the Xbox.........The OS is customized, lacking a =lot= of the windows API that is in common use. The GPU uses only part of DX-9. Most of the system tools are deliberately removed, as you have no OS install disk to reinstall if you bollix what's there. All you can do if you break it is either toss it and buy a new one, or mail it back and hope they fix it for less than that new one would cost. And they don't like people to do that; remember the frothing fits M$ threw when the Linux community demonstrated how you -could- turn the original box into a Linux box? Not much of one, but one good enough to serve as a render node.

And right now, consoles are not that economical. I'm currently assembling the parts for a new computer for my wife. I'm using the AMD A6 APU (quad core CPU and DX-11 GPU on the same die), 8gigs of DDR-3 ram, and a Gigabyte A75M-D2H motherboard. Those 3 components cost a total of $210, including shipping. By the time I'm finished, the new system, case and all, will be about $500. If I recycled case and DVD drive yet again, it would be about $350. This system has a built in HDMI port, so it can be plugged into any widescreen TV. Has enough horsepower to run Skyrim with better than medium settings. And if she decides, can accept a Radeon 6000 series video card for a Crossfire setup (I was kinda surprised that the APU would slot into that architecture, but it apparently does).

Ghu only knows what the '720' or whatever they call it will cost, but I can assure you it won't be a couple of hundred bucks......

Bandwidth issue.
Some mods are less than 1MB big, but there are some that's a few gigs big, some may even be larger than the game itself. Microsoft and Sony are already bothered with developers releasing patches that needed to be downloaded through their server, mods will only add to that stress.

Potential cut from DLC sales.
Not everyone are dedicated fans. Some players won't buy a DLC if there's a similar mod available freely. Many people here say they'll buy every DLCs even though there are mods. But most people on the forums are dedicated fans who care about the game.
A lot gamers aren't that dedicated. If there's a player made horse armor mod available, they simply won't buy the DLC that may cost $6-14.
You may say the quality are different. But when one is completely free while another costs the money you earned with blood and sweat, many people will simply choose the one that is free. Just look at all the made in china products.
Not to mention the quality of a lot mods are on par with, or even superior to those official DLCs.

1. Command console is not the discussion. Mods are. We're not even discussing CK in reality, it's just another possibility. When I posed the question about CK a mod told me that it prob wouldn't be allowed because eventually your console would run out of RAM I believe he said. So in this case, lets rule out CK for the moment.

2. I do not believe mods should cost money. If they do, the money should go to Bethesda. People who put their mods up on Skyrim.nexus are looking for usage, not money. I think it should be kept this way. However in reality I believe Bethesda should throw out a couple of nice DLCs and then look into opening up Player created content. Eventually they're going to look past Skyrim, idk about you all, but even at a worst case scenario, I would patiently wait until that day for them to open up player created content. I just think that EVENTUALLY this should occur.

3. Not all mods will come through, especially explicit ones. I'm sure if Bethesda did do this they would rule out all memory intensive mods (Some HD mods I'm sure would lag consoles, but then again maybe not). I think what most of us are looking at is KC created areas, not shaders. Adding extra areas into Skyrim would more than likely not disrupt anything (yet again I'm just speculating).

4. If they were so worried about sales, wouldn't they restrict PC mods? I can't possibly see them being too focused on DLC profits when 1/3 of their platforms have a complete modding communit set up BY THEM. If they were really focused on DLC profits they wouldn't release KC to everyone.

For a number of reasins, I'd don't expect mods will ever be available to console players.

1: Out of the several million people who bought Skyrim for a console. I rather doubt that many even know that mods exist. So it's unlikely there'd ever be significant pressure on MS/Sony to allow mods on their systems.

2: I own an XBox and don't know about Sony but, MS doesn't come across to me as a company that is keen on giving away too much for free. So, I believe that any mods that might ever be offered to XBox players would have a cost atteched ... which creates a number of issues that have been mentioned in previous posts.

I've read articles that indicate MS may implement something on the next generation console to prevent people from playing used copies of games. If this is the path they're on, it seems unlikely that they'd turn around and make free mods available ... though they might as an inducement to buy the console as I could see many people turning their back on the next XBox if this "can't play used games" idea is comes to pass.

MS is supposed to be offering a, no doubt gimped, version of IE on the XBox this fall, though only available to "Gold" users. While this might seem like an ideal way for players to obtain mods from the web, I seriously doubt that there will be any download ability from the browser.

3: From what I've read, it costs developers around $40,000 to make a patch available on XBox. Given this cost, I'm not sure how willing Beth would be to make a series of free mods available.

4: As per 1, I doubt there will be much pressure exerted on Beth or the console makers to make free mods available and as per 3, it would cost a developer money to do so.

This being the case, there's really no incentive for either Beth or the console makers to change the status quo.

Other than for Beth and other developers, the prospect of moving more players from the PC to a console might work out favourably in the long run.

This would wok well for developers who mke games for both the PC and console platforms, as life would be much easier if they could forgo making a PC version entirely, i.e., a sufficient number of PC users move to a console and shrink the PC market, given the aggravation of trying to make a game that will work for the many various PC graphics card, sound card, processors, etc.

Much easier to produce a game for two types of console that each will all be the same in every respect.

This kind of makes me realize that odds are they'll be trying to keep people on PC for TESO :/ FML.

Because without mods and the toolset a lot PC players won't even buy the game in the first place. I'm one of them, and I know quite a few friends who are the same as me.

IMO without mods The Elder Scrolls series is just another single player ARPG. Maybe among the better ones, but nevertheless still only one of them.
But with mods The Elder scrolls series is not only a single player ARPG, but it's a whole new world. It is THE ONE. And it is something that totally worth paying $60(or in my case $150 since I bought the collector's edition) for.

The status quo works well for Beth.

I mean, how many times have you seen a comment on this forum re: some "issue" in the game and then had a person comment re: someone will make a mod to address the issue.

This lets Beth off the hook for stuff that maybe they should be "fixing" ... leaving them free to focus on DLC content, which I'd guess at least a few hundred thousand console ... as well as PC ... users will purchase.

It seems to me that mods work well for Beth in a few respects, which I'm sure is at least part of the reason they make the CK available to PC users.

More or less i would think that you would understand then why console users are so pushy about wanting mods to come onto their platform.

This is one of those moments where I wish we could all rally and, as console users united, boycott Dawnguard. Of course we're all too hyped about Dawnguard so it would never happen :/
