[Relz] Companion Sandbox Mode

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 3:24 pm

I have the same issue with Cass, even with the plugin loading last. I have no other companion altering mods.

Strange. I haven't been able to test it with her, but her dialogue conditions are the same as for everyone else. The only thing I could think of is that the game doesn't consider her hired. Have you tried firing and re-hiring her?

Come to think of it, I am using a mod that uncaps the limit of human followers you can have based on charisma (doesn't conflict with any entries though). I haven't look through your script but might that be a cause?

Only if it means that VNPCFollowers.bCassHired is no longer at 1. I don't know if there's an easy way to check the state of that quest variable in the console, I haven't been able to get it to work.

Edit: Try http://www.mediafire.com/?dj7do6m5ua5rvu6. It's CSM 2.0 only with the bCassHired condition removed from her dialogue topic. Let me know if it works.

I just tried it, and the option to 'sandbox' still did not appear.

Sorry, tried it and it didn't work either :/

But it does work for other companions? This is very strange. The only other thing I can think of is that all of Cass's greetings are followed by specific selection of topic choices, rather than a topic list to which the sandbox topic has been added.

I can't say for all companions but it does work with Veronica. Right now I have Veronica and Cass accompanying me. In addition to the aforementioned steps, I also tried firing Veronica so Cass is the only companion following, but that still didn't work.

Damn, I just checked and this is exactly the problem. Pretty stupid, as it'll make things very difficult for any mods adding dialogue to Cass. If just one does it by adding a new choice it's fine, but it probably would cause conflicts if multiple mods would do it that way.

Unless everyone would stick to normal topics, and one mod would remove remove all the topic choices and let it add the vanilla topics to the normal list instead, but I'd have to be careful not to break anything.

They didn't pull off this seemingly pointless crap for the other companions. Thanks Obsidian!

It's especially annoying since I'm considering a different dialogue based mod for companions, so if I take the lazy route now and just add a topic to the choice list it's going to conflict with that mod. :P

Tried with another characters' saves, works perfectly with Veronica. For Cass won't work even with that test file.

Edit: too late. That makes things diffcult

I removed all the topics from the choice list of the normal greeting topics of Cass, and made sure they were added to the normal topic list instead. This should allow for any custom Cass topics to appear.

I haven't played with Cass yet so I would appreciate it if someone could do a quick test of this. See if the sandbox topic is finally added, and if Cass doesn't suddenly have dialogue topics that shouldn't be there, weren't there before, or are not working properly.

Tried it and it didn't work, still no 'sandbox' option in dialogue. Would have been nice of Cass was a robot, eh? :)

Nope, still doesn't appear. Every else topic seems fine, though.

Looks like I'll have to pick her up myself then and see if I can figure it out.

Which greetings were you getting by the way? Was it one of these 4?

Oh, you look like you got something else to say besides ordering me around.
Let's hear it, you look all serious.
Something to say to me other than guns, distance, and stimming?
Whoa, why you leaning in all of a sudden?

I forgot to mention, because I didn't know if it was important or not, but I am actually progressing on Cass' questline right now (whereas I haven't started Veronica's quest yet). So the greeting she gives me is "Found any evidence yet?" :)

None of those; "If i was offered all the lighst of Vegas i would be tempted too. But i'd like to see what's behind the curtain first.". I think that's a special greeting for those who follow the House questline (currently in Nellis AFB for mr. House).

Yeah that's a problem. Cass has TONS of quest related greetings, much more than any other companion, all with choice topics. I'm not sure how I'm going to handle this yet.

I might add the topic to the 'questions' topic she has, from what I've seen that one can always be accessed.

Without actually peeking inside to see how your mod works, would it be possible to just give them a specific item (ie. a specific whisky bottle to indicate that it's time to relax) and have them use sandbox packages if they have that item, or stand still in one place if they don't? Might be easier, if less elegant.

Yes that could work. Still, Cass is the only problematic follower as far as I know so I'd like to be able to use dialogue for her too.

(This was supposed to be a simple mod! :hehe:)

I linked the relax topic to the questions topic. I think. It's very complicated. :P

Can anyone see if it finally works now?

There are actually two question topics. She should say Ask 'em then when you want to ask her some questions in normal situations. The relax topic is probably at the bottom of the topic list.

Yeah it seems to work now. The 'relax' topic appears where you said. Good job!

:celebration:

I'll get the official fix up soon.

I feel sorry for whoever decides that he wants to add dialogue to Cass. :D

What's the exact wording of the 'questions' topic by the way? I couldn't really see it in the GECK.
