Console Commands for PS3Xbox360

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 3:54 pm

It's possible to do, but it would require an huge effort on BS's part. I just broke down and got the PC version today, something I thought I was going to put off longer... but I want to be ready when the CK hits. I still play on the 360 but it's nice to have the added bonus of the PC.

Just hook your laptop up to your HDTV and get a wireless controller. :) Works for me for some of my games. I prefer M+K for these types of games anyways though.

Because the kiddos would brake their game with the console commands and game developers would get alot of angry mail from their mom & dad demmanding their money back etc.
Too much time consuming to micro manage (restrict) the console options. No no, you will never see a console command option in my life time on PS or Xbox.

Just in case someone didn't mention this... On PC if you use console commands you cannot earn achievements until you turn off the game and turn it back on. It's a Steam thing. It was like that with New Vegas. I saw someone mention avhievement earning.

Achievements aren't disabled in Skyrim if you use the console.

Achievements are stupid. Thanks to these, nowadays, many games don't come anymore with good old fashioned cheats. If I wanted to change my game experience in a single player game, Sony or Microsoft shouldn't prevent me from doing that.

Microsoft/Sony won't allow any commands that cheat achievements, so using the console would need to disable them.
Well it's not really the actual reason. PS3 didn't have achievements(throphies) until a few years ago, before that it had none.

It's the reason that the console commands can break your game completely and sony/ms do not want to deal with that stuff. So better to leave it out. Less work for everyone and they are happy.

Just curious. It seems like the solution to a lot of bugs I've had has been to open up the console and fix it with a command. Do the console manufacturers just not allow access to this stuff? Or is there some other reason why? Is it just too difficult to implement on a console? (I imagine typing with the crummy 360 virtual keyboard would be somewhat of a pita)

Not too difficult, no. Just allow users to plug in a USB keyboard. That's not the problem.

The problem is Sony and Microsoft, and their official stance on leaving debug tools in games.

For both, discovering any debug tools remaining in the game when submitted is an automatic FAIL. They chuck the game out of submission, order the debug tool to be removed, and then force the developer to pay for a second submission.

It's a zero tolerance situation, sadly. Very specifically breaks both manufacturers rules, and therefore unless at some point they choose to change those rules thecommand console will never be allowed in a console game on either platform.

It is possible now, it's the legal mumbo jumbo that's keeping it from us now.
Spoiler
Beth. uses a devkit xbox to mod the game on the fly when out showing off the game. It was used for Skyrim's debut, that sceen with the two dragons facing each other was modded right there and then for looks.
it's in a spoiler cause I don't think the public is supposed to know about it so read at your own peril.( The dark brother hood might pay you a visit  )

I really doubt it's going to happen and, if it does, it won't be free.(kinda defeating the purpose of them in the first place)

Why not even use a USB Keyboard?

With "Velvet Assassin" you could plug a USB Keyboard into your XBox and activate the same cheats the PC users would use by inputting them.

i cant because i only have a chat pad and any way they need to put it in the game first for e.g.
the pc skyrim game but have taking 5 mouths to make
were as the consles version would have taken 2 maybe 3 mouths because of lower coding

Mods for TES = free = NO MONEY

And I really doubt anyone who is playing on a decent PC (= anyone who might be a potential NEW customer for the game on consoles) will buy a TES game for the next generation of consoles, since they probably will also force you to be online and register the game, while still offering inferior graphics (since graphical mods wouldn't be allowed by Sony or Microsoft even if they allowed user created content).

PC players had to live with the [censored] console interface for a while, you gotta live without Mods. xP

Now what would be possible is Beth getting permission from some modders to include their Mods in official patches, but the player getting control over the content on consoles is out of the question!

not a bad idea. especially since many quests are bugged and could be fixed with simple commands

Calm down OP.

Unlike us PS3 users, you get DLC earlier, and Kinect. You don't need anything else.

Console commands on the limited hardware of the consoles could be very destructive in terms of save games.
