Consoles are holding back gaming

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 4:24 pm

If all games were PC only everybody would have a pc. Or if consoles were updated every year.
You cannot say consoles aren't preventing gaming moving forward. The games are built for 5 year old hardware .
Even Morrowind was held back.

All gamers need to move to pc so all games are made for pc and progress can be made.
Oh yeah, everybody just needs to move to PC, Its not like people can't afford them :)

Consoles are affordable, work straight away without any tweaking, and allow a large portion of players who otherwise couldn't play the game the chance to play it.

I'm fortunate in that I have the knowledge, interest and money in order to have built my PC. While PCs these days aren't ridiculously expensive, not everyone knows how to build one, and not everyone can afford to. To say everyone needs to move to a PC or that consoles need to be updated is pretty absurd and quite frankly just plain ignorant.

Consoles are holding back indepth, PC intelligent gaming. But they`re not holding back basic, dumb-down gaming.

really just look back at what PC games did before they started trying to appeal to the console gamer.

If Skyrim had been made solely for the PC I would guarantee we`d have something 50% if not 100% better and more amazing than what we have now. A kind more complex Morrowind with great graphics, character options and tons more skills.

Sorry to the consolers who won`t like it and don`t want to believe it, but it`s true .

LOL. Intelligent gaming. An oxymoron if ever there was one.

Not a console owner but was impressed with how the game looked and ran on my friends 360. One thing i don't really understand with consoles is why it is a six year cycle. That just seems way to long with the speed modern technology moves.

It's not true at all, there are loads of good console games out there, they're not holding back anything.

Besides, the tech in consoles now is way better than the tech in consoles ~20 years ago, and there were loads of good games back then. Six year old hardware isn't holding anything back.

i would also like to point out that the best combat game (swords and boards anyways) is mount and blade warband which was made by an indie developer on a small budget with a small team. the scariest game i have ever played and in fact i still cant brind myself to finish was Amnesia by the people that made the Penumbra games and they are also a small indie company with limited staff and resource. my favorite RTS game is Starfeel Operations which is a mod for the old star trek armada game. what they did with that game is just amazing as it looks like somethign released in the last couple of years instead of 10 years ago.

i still use my xbox for racing games, unless they are also on the PC since i have a wireless controller, but i frankly dont use it for anything else really. in fact im playing my friends PS3 more than my own xbox cause he has dark souls.

There are plenty of shoulds? You should not murder, you should not [censored]. Your comment was stupid

Objectively, speaking? No, not even murder counts. Not murdering is simply an ideal.

Imagine how much more immense Skyrim could be if it wasn't for those 6 year old pieces of [censored].

Time was put into coding for them when it could have been put into 2 extra guilds
Limits had to be set so the console version are similar
I won't list everything but you cannot say consoles are good for gaming.

PC and Wii should be the only 2 gaming platforms and Wii should stick to what its good at

I will refrain from breaking out the torches and pitchforks on you. I play the ETS games on the console because its easier for me to spend time with my husband. I enjoy watching him play and he enjoys watching me play. It would be uncomfortable and impossiable for us to crowd around a computer and share time with each other.

I have no need to play it on the computer, I don't like MODs or commands. I like sitting in my living room sprawled out on my couch, with a bowl of popcorn, a bottle of Pepsi and a pack of smokes.

Yes, I play on the Xbox 360 and I love it. Its a staple in our house to have the Gold Membership up and running. I would not trade my console for anything. If you do not like playing on it just don't piss in someone's else's pool and ruin their fun.

The game is not ruining it for anyone, its a means of not being so one sided and given players who don't like to play on this or that the opportunity to play on something that feels most comfortable to them.

No it wouldn't, and that is a fact, not an opinion. The sales figures speak for themselves. If Skyrim was a PC exclusive Bethesda would barely have even broken even.

There are actually a number of facts to consider in this argument.

The reason gaming companies put more emphasis on the consoles is easily explained.
There is a broader market for console games. Everyone owning a console is a gamer. Not everyone who owns a pc is a gamer.

Piracy is and will remain a larger issue on PC's than it is or will be on consoles. Thus aiming at consoles is taking the safe route.

Games, because of graphics, voicework etc.. are becoming immensely expensive to produce.. To accommodate the costs and to generate higher turnovers and profits every AAA title will have to appeal to a broad audience.

Exactly. Some people seem to think that the higher a game's system requirements are, the better the game will be, and that isn't true at all.

The next gen consoles are going to cost €600. My €700 pc runs Bf3 on Ultra at 60fps.

It's PC elitism. Don't worry about the opinions of people like him. It's just a superiority complex.

agreed although the money from console sales helped fund skyrim. they should have made it PC first and then scaled back. after playing BF3 its quite a shock going back to skyrims graphics which while much better than oblivions arent anywhere as near as good as BF3 or far cry 2 graphics.

also PC game sales are about the same as xbox 360 sales and in fact they are larger than PS3 sales so i wish people would stop posting nonsense about console sales "dwarfing" PC sales.
LOL! Do you think they would have been able to do a detailed game like skyrim with BF3's graphics? No way... It is EXTREMELY performance craving to run BF3 just so you know...

I love how PC elitists try to act mature.

To the rest of us, you sound like the 6 year-old that you describe console gamers.

Bethesda games have never been about cutting edge graphics. Sure, they aim to be good. But not the best.

And PC sales figures haven't been released for Steam. Not at all are the PC sales more than the Xbox, that's a stupid thing to say.

that is just BS. i posted a link to the top five video games for the PC and for the xbox 360 and the PC games sold more than the xbox games. one of the xbox "games" was the title that you get with the kinect which is a forced purchase. one of the reps from steam said that at any given time 10% of STEAM users are on at a time and since its usually between 2 and 3 million online that means between 20 and 30 million users and this is at 1 am in the morning when lots of people are in bed. if STEAM sales were included with PC game sales they would infact equal or beat xbox sales easily. people also forget about the millions of people that pirate games as well which while its possible on the xbox its more likely that a PC gamer will do it. if they ever figure out a system that is very hard to beat then you can add those people to PC sales as well.

@stee, vo. far cry 2 was a completely open world game release back in 2008 and it looks lightyears better than skyrim. it ran as smooth as butter on my system and had much better foliage, shadows etc. they designed it for the PC and then a seperate version for the console and it showed. skryim looks like crap compared to many PC centric games.

I must say my main platform of choice is the pc. I like upgrading my components and having fun with that.

I also own a xbox 360 and a wii as well. Ever though these consoles are 5+ years old they still perform quite well by today's standards of graphics.

If you like playing games with a keyboard and mouse with the best graphics ever get a pc for your gaming needs. If you don't want you gaming hobby to get crazy expensive and like sitting on the couch to play games then the console is the way to go.

Like I said even though I LOVE playing on the pc, there are some pros and cons to every platform and you should choose with whats comfortable to you and what you like the most.

I wonder how many console users also use a 6 year old cell phone.

People think its unimaginable to own a cell phone that ancient now. Look at all the progress that has been made with phones in the last six years and then look at the lame game boxes. Still think the consoles aren't holding back gaming? If so please watch some 1080p video of Crysis and then ask yourself why a video game could look like that in 2007 yet Skyrim in 2011 looks like poo.

Yeah, but if consoles released 20 years ago were able to run some incredibly high quality games, then consoles nowadays can as well.
