Crispy Gamer best article ive ever read

Great article, the only thing the guy did not understand himself is that in Fallout 3 D.C. was hit directly and that is Bethesda's reasoning behind making it a rubble wasteland with hardly any life.

http://www.crispygamer.com/blogs/post/2010/08/18/hands-on-fallout-new-vegas.aspx

"I was never a big fan of Fallout 3, and I feel that in many ways it failed to live up to it’s predecessors. However after getting my hands on Fallout: New Vegas I can’t help but feel optimistic about this game. What the folks over at Obsidian have produced has little in common with Fallout 3 aside from the software engine it uses. Fallout: New Vegas looks and feels like the sequel Fallout 2 deserved, and i can’t wait until it finally ships this October."

That is the best line in the artcile

He played New Vegas on normal difficulty and died 5 min after leaving Goodsprings, then died again later on etc. To prove the guy isn't terrible at video games he stated how he easily killed 2 super mutants with one holding a mini gun & other a rocket launcher at level 1.

I Crispy Gamer preview was awesome!

I like how the enemies are actually going to be a challenge now, Radscorpions with strong exterior armor & how he went exploring out in the wilderness to find himself some Deathclaws.

This preview has gotten me so pumped for Fallout New Vegas & October cannot come quick enough! :tops:

Actually giant radscorpions in fallout 1 and 2 were really easy.
But the fallout 3 one's seemed to be of a different race..
Will we have both in New Vegas or have the old squishy one's been replaced with the new tank-armor one's forever?

It was really easy to kill them in fo3, just backpedal and fire. I'm glad to see they are more of a challenge this time around.

Well you couldn't backpedal and constantly shoot them in the old games and they were still really easy.
Try standing still and fire at a giant radscorpion in F3.

So do you start in goodsprings? Is that where doc mitchell is and where character creation takes place?

Yes, He does your reconstructive surgery since you took bullets in the face.

Yes.

Spoiler
I don't really want to sound harsh or impolite since you've done nothing to deserve that, but we knew that we're going to start in Goodsprings since the very first preview. Doing some research could save you a much harsher response than mine.

One of the best parts for me is knowing that I can't steamroll through the wasteland and do whatever the fudge I want anymore.

I don't know how balanced higher levels will be, but I'm really optimistic about it. Looking forward to it.

Not a problem, I'll use a few stimpaks in the process. Also, you could backpedal (sort of). How do you think I beat the Temple of Trials without taking damage?

As for the preview, it's nice and all, but I have a feeling that this guy was just poorly equipped (no weapons that were good vs armour) rather than the game actually being so hard. At least he plays like it's meant to be played (stealing medical supplies and weaponry).

Well my point is that with one of my characters I met 3 giant radscorpions just after leaving Arroyo and I killed all three with a spear, sure it was hard but it was very doable, now, take something that comes close to the spear in fallout 2 and try to go nuts on 3 giant radscorpions in fallout 3 without taking a crapload of stimpacks and backpedaling all the time.
There is a significant difference in their power levels.

Anyway, True sequel to fallout 2?
I guess.
But it won't be anything like Van Buren so I dunno.

The real Fallout 3 was released on October 28, 2008. Fallout: New Vegas is for absolutely all intents and purposes not it.

So you're saying you killed all three without backpedaling (read: running away after each blow)? Because hit and run is really the way to go against melee creatures unless they can catch up to you anyway.

teh r33l FO3: It's obviously not New Vegas or Van Buren. It's obviously FO3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzYmQyHl2bc.

In fallout 2, yes, well I might have backpedaled once or twice to use a healing powder but not as much as people do in fallout 3 where they constantly hold down the S button or push back the anolog stick.

I don't understand what we're arguing about anymore. You said that Radscorpions were harder in Fallout 3, but now you're saying that they're only harder if you don't backpedal or use stimpaks and force yourself to use a melee weapon. The fact is, you can get several stimpaks and a gun inside of the vault (equivalent of Arroyo), so that by the time you get outside you can take on 3 Giant Radscorpions even without backpedaling by making use of VATS invulnerability and stimpaks.

The Fallout 2 battle is harder because supplies are not as plentiful. For example, you can clear out an entire cave of Radscorpions in Fallout since you have a gun and stimpaks, but in Fallout 2, you have nothing but a spear. In Fallout 3 you have tons of supplies everywhere so no matter how difficult a battle, it will seem easier. I'm not disputing that the Fallout 3 Giant Radscorpions were meant to be tougher enemies than the original Radscorpions (infact, I think it's a retcon), but I'm disputing that they're just as easy to kill at similar points in the game.

Hrm he made the comparison regarding the Two Super Mutants from when the played Fallout 3 and stated that in FO 3 he never really felt threatened by any of the opponents in it, while in his short time with New Vegas he did feel a sense of trepidation when heading out into the wilds. Which to at least myself I think bodes well for New Vegas in that it won't be a cakewalk like FO3 was.

While he didn't give too much new info away so to speak, I thought what he did was came across well and has whetted my appetite and anticipation for New vegas.

Might be because health/damage/gameplay is different in both games so it's hard to calculate.
Anyway, my original point was, will there be brown radscorpions or just blueish and possibly white radscorpions?
Would be odd for all the brown one's we met in the first two games just disappeared.

On that note, will the hairy molerats be back?

When I brought up the presence of the deathclaw with Theresa later on, her only response was to mumble something about there being “much worse then deathclaws out there,” followed by what I can only describe as an evil sounding laugh.

I woner what the thing that is “much worse then deathclaws out there,” is. Mabey they found a more frightening, and powerful, substitute for behemoths in NV.
