Dawnguard - a huge flaw in the bad guys' plan...

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 9:06 am

^this, there are probably alooot of dead peoples souls to be eaten..... Also it's just a fantasy game.

I guess, but Dead people don't reproduce ._.
and yes it's a fantasy game, but the Elder Scrolls franchise usually gave explanations to the fantasy parts to make it seem more realistic, not much explanation here yet.

You will kill Alduin only for that you could devour souls instead of him XD

I always thought that vampires were the way they were because of the sun. They are immortal to time, but need to feast because of sunlight. Eliminate the sun, eliminate the need to feast. Elimininate the need to eliminate... I think

I'm imagining a power you get to use, like a shout that darkens the sky for your easy passage as a vampire. Not total permanent sun blockage.

Wait if magic in this game comes from the sun....won't blotting it out weaken magic in general?

Things work differently in Tamriel. For example, sun isn't a star, but pretty much a hole in the sky where magic pours into Mundus. Also, I believe every single TES game has plants growing in underground dungeons
I dont think there was any in Morrowind, but i might be wrong.

IMO that black-red thing in the end of trailer, was a spell that enchances sun to make it's light harmless for vampires instead of disabling it.

Is this a serious post? (asking honestly, no offence intended)

If so, I don't think so. In my opinion it's an epic spell brought on by an Elder Scroll that simply blocks the sun, maybe an eclipse of some sort.

In response to the OP, good theory I guess. Possible answers...

- They're not that smart and haven't really thought of the consequences.
- They know the consequences but don't care.
- It's a fantasical world, not all animals breathe oxygen, not all plants require sunlight.
- It's for a limited time only.

I'm going to smith some dragonbone gauntlets and enchant them specially so that every vampire I see I can literally beat the hell out of him.

Don't like the bloodsvckers, very unhappy to see them coming back in any serious way to the game. They will suffer for it.

Do plants on Nirn even need the sun? Recall that the sun is Magnus, a hole in the sky torn out by the god of magic, also named Magnus. We don't even know if Magnus radiates heat and light in the same way the sun does. This is why I'm wondering if the developers will treat the sun as Earth's sun, or Nirn's hole in the sky.

Another question, then: How do the vampires plan to plug a hole in the sky?

A really big corpse cork...

Vampires always have a plan.

It occurred to me that if the vampires succeed in blotting out the sun, all the plantlife will die, and everything else will eventually starve, leaving them with nothing to feed on. That's if the planet doesn't freeze solid first.

They really didn't think this through, did they?

Yes they did. Cast magelight. Stand still.

Does not hurt vampires. Plants eat. Problem solved.

BAM

The sun is a hole in the fabric of Oblivion through which the Aetherius shines. Nirn itself is an infinite plane that looks like a globe when observed from a distance. I don't think you can apply Earth logic so easily.
There would still be energy being transferred. It is a valid point if there is an eclipse, but in this case it just appears the sun is altered, not blocked.

You know the sun isn't really a giant ball of fission helium and hydrogen, right? It's actually a giant hole in Oblivion to the Aetherius that Magnus created when feeling from the creation of Mundus (the mortal world)
Light energy would still be transferred. If it was blocked there would be no photosynthesis.

I have a question kind of on topic. If a solar eclipse happens does it block out UV rays? I am guessing since it is blocking the sun right?

Light energy doesn't leak from the big hole in the sky (the sun), it leaks magicka.

Not a fan of sci-fi, I take it?

We know plants on nirn need sunlight because Meridia says so.
Spoiler
When you do her quest and she tells you to use that sword in her name or some such and you say "I'm not spreading your religion. Wha'evah! Ah do what ah wan'!" she brings it up in an anology.
Light is her field, she knows what she's talking about. Anything above plants in the food chain will need to find an alternative or die. However, if vampires are only sensitive to certain wavelength ranges, restricting the wavelength might not lead to the same mass extinction, especially if they introduced their own flora which does carry out photosynthesis at such wavelengths and told humanity "You can eat this and be our cattle or you can die out.". If they found some other way of making mortal food they might just do that and give it to the limited captured population in battery farms.

If there is light coming from it there must be energy. No energy equals no light. Energy is required for life. Plants need it to grow. Human's can then get it from crops or animals that have fed on plants. No energy for humanoids means no aerobic respiration.

Ha Ha! Yes. From your point of view, maybe not.

But Bethesda made it more or less like the Civil War vs the Empire with both sides having different morals.

I may be a boring and non creative person but anyone else think it was just a catchy phrase in the trailer? Maybe the actual plan taking over the world might look a bit more small scale in the end...
