A debate a friend and I had.

I was just in Riften when I see some Thalmor, I ask what they are doing and he says "Taking this man because he has knowledge of a cult of Talos worshipers, if he talks he will live and if not, he will die" This is the Skyrim we have to put up with, if you ask me the time of waiting is over, and something needs to be done now. Not 30 more years from now.

You suggested that the Stormcloaks could've joined the Legion and done their thing which isn't possible in the Legion. The only way the Thalmor are directly fought is by an independent Skyrim.

When did I ever suggest that? I was suggesting that the Stormcloaks need not attack the Legion when the Legion isn't their real enemy, not that the Stormcloaks join the Legion then attack the Thalmor. There can be organizations not tied to a nation that still operate within the nation, thus, I suggested that if the Stormcloaks (and only the Stormcloaks) declare themselves separate from the Empire, then the Thalmor could not blame the Empire for a Stormcloak attack. They could only blame themselves for provoking Talos-worshippers to action. I suggest reading more carefully.

The Dunmer fled to Skyrim to escape a violent war, they shouldn't be forced to join one just because some guy in a big chair tells them to.

The dunmer fled to skyrim because their land was hit by a moon and a volcano was erupting and covering everything with lava.

The people of Vvardenfell left becasue of that. The Argonians took advantage of that and attacked the rest of the Province. Most in Skyrim are just survivors of that who wanted somewhere else to live becasue the Argonians destroyed the rest of Morrowind. The temple (which was NOT a moon), destryoed Vivec City, and caused the Red Mountain to erupt, destroying the rest of Vvardenfall, not all of Morrowind. Th Argonians did that.

I don't recall anything suggesting that the Dunmer actually chose that part of Windhelm. Given the nature of Nords and their distrust of Elves, it would seem a more likely scenario that the Grey Quarter was the pre-existing slum of Windhelm and they were confined to it. Why are there no Dunmer living in other parts of the city? There's only one I can think of; the Dunmer nanny to the Cruel-sea child.

Viola Giordano also suggests through dialogue that the Dunmer do in fact pay taxes. Not only that, they pay more than the Nords, subject to the whims of the Jarl. I don't think Ulfric is racist, not for a minute, but the Dunmer are without a doubt treated like second class citizens. The Argonians have it even worse.

Screw the elves and screw what the legion has become. The stormcloaks would be way better tho ulfric has to be a little more lenient with other races. Except the argonians and khajit. They are humanoid scum ... Seriously
Well get ready because in the 6E the Thalmor and Empire will be both so defeated there supplies will be so low. That is where the beast races of Tamriel unite, the Khajiit quietly stop supporting the AD and begin their alliance. They then conquer all of Tamriel!

A lot of the people in the Legion still worship Talos outright.

Spoiler
At Ulfric's demise, Legate Rikke will bless him saying, "Talos keep you."

And when questioned about it by her superior officer, she says "nothing, sir."

Because she doesn't want him to know. Tullius wouldn't do anything about it, but she doesn't want him to lie to his "superiors" in her stead.

Where else are they going to go? There are no other houses in Windhelm besides Hjerim, which is the player house, the Aretino residence which is owned by a boy and promised to him when he becomes a man, and the curio guy's house. There is not one single instance in the game where Ulfric seems racist to anyone except Ellenwen - and with good reason.

I didn't say Ulfric was racist, so I'm not sure why you think that. I said he and the other Nords treat the Dunmer like second class citizens.

As to where else the Dunmer could move to? Hard to say. Windhelm is hardly to scale, if it were, there would be plenty more housing opportunities for them to move into from the Grey Quarter. But even if it was, they would still be confined to the Grey Quarter.

They'd still lose against the Thalmor without Imperial help.

Just like Hammerfell lost to the Aldmeri Dominion without Imperial hope.

Didn't Hammerefell defeat the Dominion almost immediately after the Great War ended? Meaning the Dominion was using its already nearly defeated and destroyed armies? If that's the case, I'd say that the Empire did help them quite a bit.

Since when are the dunmer not citizens who don't have to pay rent or taxes, can i have a source? Also Ulfric should be telling his citizens not to treat the dunmer as bad as they do, and free winter actually does start to help them out, the only reason it isn't shown is because that would be a pain for the developers to completely change a whole city. And as for the kahjiit your right that is the nords keeping them out, but I highly doubt the empire supports it since cyrodiil is a much more fair place.

But seriously i don't think skyrim will change much depending on who wins, and the thalmor will fall no matter what, i just think that the empire is going to be better for long term peace in tamriel after the civil war and the second great war.

Decree of Monument, found near the road to Morrowind. By the way, the Empire has burned a lot more bridges than the Stormcloaks have. I do think the Empire should be the prominent force on Tamriel, just not this one.

The plaque just states that the dunmer that fled when the volcano erupted they would receive free housing. Dosent say where.

As far as them choosen part, I take it from that book. Seeing how windhelm is the ancient capital that used to wage war against the dunmers so I see it as them choosing it to be like a slap in the face of the nords. Also seeing how the dunmer are a proud race also and view themselves to be superior just like every other race in tamriel, its very likely its true that they chose to seperate themselves from the other citizens just like how it was done in morrowind.

So no, they chose windhelm to as a joke to themselves and chose to seperate themselves.

But I have yet seen any evidence that they pay taxes. I see them selling and the ones that do are in good standings with everyone, but have yet to see anything of taxes. Also just to put it out there, if the bosmer and the altmer pay taxes, the dunmer are still excempt, not all elves only the dunmer.

No, it didn't. Hammerfell fought Lady Arannelya's army, the largest Aldmeri Army, which didn't experience any of the fighting that occured in Cyrodiil. The only casualties they might have suffered were if there were any skirmishes when they were crossing through western Cyrodiil. And the only "help" offered was by General Decainus, who discharged invalid soldiers from his army and asked them to remain in Hammerfell. The usefulness of that act is unknown, and can also be viewed as insubordination. So no, the Empire didn't help at all.

The thalmor had more strength the the empire, but were still severely weakened from being pushed out of cyrodiil, also most of the redgurads fighting there were imperial legion soldiers that were "discharged" by General Decianus so they could stay and fight after the emperor ordered everyone cyrodiil.

I found myself conflicted for quite a while with the civil war as there are ideas on both sides that I can agree with. However, after going through the diplomatic immunity quest I found some thalmor documents detailing Ulfric as an ally simply because he's diverting the attention of the Empire away from the real enemy. The aldmeri dominion isn't finished yet and the Empire needs to be at its strongest if its going to survive. Ulfric's rebellion is the result of hot tempers and poor planning in my opinion. His brash actions are only hurting his people and their allies, while the dominion sits back and watches them kill each other.

You're right about that. If memory serves me correctly, all the Jarls agreed to it, meaning they could've moved anywhere, and they didn't just move to Windhelm. There are survivors of the Red Year in various parts of Skyrim, take for example that Sarethi lady in the Rift. Places like Windhelm and Winterhold hold sentimental value for the Dunmer.

I haven't seen anything about anyone paying taxes, other than letters of inheritance.

Also, I'm pretty sure the Dunmer say the reason they took up residence in Windhelm is its proximity to Morrowind. They already had to flee their homes and travel for miles just to reach Skyrim. They wanted to attempt a return to normalcy as soon as possible, and the quickest way to do that would be to start rebuilding in Windhelm. It's not out of any signs of maliciousness, they just want to stop being homeless.

This. Also dialogue with a legate states that the Legion doesn't have enough troops for Skyrim so it is forced to recruit locally which means all the Legion troops you see in Skyrim are actually from Skyrim which would explain why the Legion is almost all nords. This means that the Legion has enough forces for High Rock and Cyrodiil so the Legion could wind up doing more damage to Skyrim as the Thalmor would spy on troop movements and thus know the terrain better while an independent Skyrim denies the Thalmor vital data. An independent Skyrim would also allow it to use its resources in High Rock and Cyrodiil more efficiently instead of being forced to spread it out among 3 provinces.

Not all of them. Some moved further than Windhelm because Eastmarch reminded them too much of Morrowind.
