On my DiD character, should this death "count" ?

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 7:41 am

So I was playing on my dead is dead character today and i had just finished clearing out Lost Valley. I was standing on the thing that looks like a diving board checking out the scenery when my dog came running out of nowhere, bumped into me, and sent me flying into the waterfall to my death. ........
I haven't decided if i'm going to make this death official or not yet, i was just wondering what you guys think.
I'm also not sure if i should Fus ro' dah my stupid dog off a cliff or not.

If you simply hit the waterfall on your way down and died I would consider it a legit death. If you went flying across the area in a crazy sort of way I would consider it a glitch and simply reload from your last save.

You should have known that a companion/dog could do that so I say it should count.

What's the point of playing dead is dead if your just going to change the rules mid game because you aren't happy with the manner in which you got killed. Remember, the name of the game is Dead IS Dead, not dead is dead unless my dog pushes me off the waterfall.

Wouldn't count it, obviously just a flaw with companion or specifically dog AI. I remember getting stuck with a dog for a quest and it'd bump me around all the time for no reason, was very irritating.

How logical would it be to ask this in the official DiD thread on the first page? Probably not logical at all?

We'll IRL, if your dog knocked you into a waterfall and you fell to your death, you'd be dead. So since you're playing DID, you are dead. Delete the save and start a new game.

If you are playing "dead is dead" then dead is dead, there are no ifs or buts.

Of course what you do is entirely up to you, it is a single player game anyway.

I stream DiD and I would count it. Your silly for standing in such a precarious position. If he bumped u like 5 feet that's different but just a nudge. Yup. Everyone knows they nudge you after having the dog for 5 seconds.

The reason i'm unsure about this is it seems like a glitch to me, irl a dog wouldn't (and probably couldn't) shove me off of something.

You'd be surprised...

Anyway.. in real life you wouldn't be eaten by a Dragon or hacked up by zombies so..

If you couldn't handle DID, then you shouldn't have started it in the first place. Either live with the fact that your character died and you must now move on to a new one, or continue playing with that save and forget all about DID. It makes no difference to us, but trying to rationalize this makes no sense. Glitches or no, dead is still dead.

I imagine you have always had little dogs? My dogs can plow me over if I'm not expecting them.

But the dog does. It's not like its a rare occurrence. You knew he did it and it [censored] you. Man up or don't play DiD

Gleda the Goat is a much better pet.

I have been killed numerous times by Barbas and Meeko pushing me off mountains or into something dangerous.

I lean towards this. But for it to be ruled a 'glitch', then I would say the dog bump should of caused you to slide the few inches to fall. If the dog bump makes your character take a step, then it's legit. As that would fall under you losing your balance and footing, plunging to your death.

...And Lydia pushed me off a cliff once. Ran right into me, next thing you know my pile of broken bones was laying at the bottom of the cliff. Maybe I should've been nicer to her.

It's all good and well to say that "You died, so you must start again" when playing DiD. But really OP, it is your choice, you don't lose anything if you don't think it was a legit death. If you break/tweak the rules a bit, that's your call. It's your game, your "version" of DiD. That said, the name of the game is, in fact, Dead is Dead, so I say you start over, as I definitely would in that situation.

Actually, that dog does have a reason for bumping you: You're supposed to be helping him, not the other way around. He's a demon prince for crying out loud, not some mild-mannered pooch.

Unfortunately, "normal" dogs like Meeko do the same thing.
