did you buy a 360 just for Skyrim?

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 1:19 pm

It just seems easier and cheaper and a lot less hassle to buy a console, plus all my friends have consoles and if I had a gaming PC I'd still be playing pretty much the exact same games as on console.

Each to there own though and all that.

Why you people even worry about what kind of pc/console someone you don't even know for 0.1% has makes me wonder how pathethic you people must be in real life.
ASLONG AS ITS NOT YOUR MONEY THEY ARE SPENDING SHUT THE [censored] UP!

First, it's like religion and you're god is always better than anyone else's god. Second, since every platform has advantages and disadvantages as well, owning one type of device causes severe cognitive dissonance in some people's mind which forces them to try to prove that they made the right choice. And last but not least, arguing over the internet makes your epeen very big.

The optimization done for consoles has caused me not to have to upgrade my PC for gaming very much at all. Skyrim runs very well on high on my rather old PC. Of course the tradeoff here is many PC games no have interfaces optimized for console players too. Mods are a good thing.

I get a kick out of PC gamers whining that console players don't know how their systems work. Sure, it's usually true, but it's just as true of people using PCs. All those threads created by guys who downloaded Daggerfall and wonder why they can't click on the setup program are a testament to that.

Anyway, I won't play anything on a console unless I absolutely have to. I find computer monitors much easier to see than TVs (even very large TVs) because I can more easily adjust the monitor to where I need it. I like keyboards and mice over controllers for pretty much any time of game. I also like playing with mods, making mods, mucking around with settings, etc.

I see why people play on consoles, but it isn't for me. If somebody bought a 360 just for Skyrim it's probably one of the best reasons to buy a 360. :D

The PC market isn't going anywhere. It might find itself filled with mostly different sorts of games in the end, but that's ok. Minecraft is better than CoD. :P

This.

I've never found a game so engrossing that I could literally look up from what appeared to be around 20minutes and realise 3 hours had passed, until I found Minecraft.

My xbox died =( and i treated it much nicer than my family.

My PC..10 years old and can play on high.

Though I did consider getting a console..but i have 275 games for the PC. I can tell you that if I bought 275 games for any one of the consoles, the price for those alone would double what I paid for on PC.

Also who would expect some one that is not old to know how to run a game that at the time ran on DOS???

And probably didn't even try to google it. Human Kind in general..lazy people =p

Cause you'd find out about dosbox than you might stumble across the premade ready to click setup of daggerfall.

Going on about how your brand new gamming PC is better than a six year old console is like kicking a ten year old kid in the face and yelling about how strong your are.

Even BIG games like Skyrim?

Yes Oblivion is on there for download and I'm sure Skyrim will be in the not too distant future.

I have all three platforms with a PC that can run Skyrim on Ultra, I have copy on both Xbox and PC, the PC copy has had maybe an hour the the 360 upwards of 30 hours.

I can understand preferring to play certain games on console, but Skyrim? Bethesda's games are definitely a lot better on PC thanks to the availability of mods.

Why a 360 over a PC or a ps3?

360 costs 200 dollars or less when on sale, NEW. Can gaming PCs capable of running Skyrim at the level of an xbox360 cost 200 dollars or less new? Then, how much will a monitor, with keyboard and mouse cost? People who buy 360s already own TVs 99% of the time, however, the number is far less for those buying PCs to assume they already own all the needed perihperals.

I'd wager thats why a lot of people choose 360.

And that is why I have a copy on PC that is shelved until some decent mods arrive. I have the Xbox360 copy because I like to be connected to my friends list on the xbox so I can jump around into different games depending what mood I'm in.

That's a fair point if you're buying a machine specifically for Skyrim; it's obviously not worth buying a new PC for one game. However I disagree with the premise that most people don't have a monitor or kbm. These things are common in most homes.

A decent gaming PC could cost around 600 dollars if you shop around and build it yourself, but obviously you'd be better off with a more expensive spec for the sake of future proofing. However, games often cost a fraction of the price they do on console, and upgrades are cheaper than on console (where you buy a whole new machine), and can be done at the same frequency if you're not bothered about maxing all games. In the long term the prices are at least equivalent. The difference is of course that PC gaming often has a large initial investment.

I was always a pc gamer but I must agree, there is a lot of elitism in pc gamers.

There are pros and cons about these choices, why fight over it? None is better than the other, it only depends on your goals and budget. You get some advantages with the pc (graphics, mods) but you'll need more money, more time and more knowledge to get things working properly. If you want a cheap and hassle free experience, then by all means, pick it up on the console.

I play Skyrim on a pc with a 360 controller using NVIDIA's 3D with a projector in my living room, that is also connected to a PS3 to play BD.

Keep an open mind.

PC gaming has one major advantage in sales: digital distribution. More and more of PC game sales are digital rather than traditional retail.

And more and more so called sales numbers dont count digital sales. I would have to say that many games sell allmost as well in PC than in consoles. Most sale numbers you find around dont include digital orders.

I can't remember why I bought a 360 when I did. Was about a year ago and it was a bundle pack with Halo ODST and Forza 3. I already had a PS3 at the time. And a mid grade computer (now low end. Just meet minimums for skyrim. Holding off on pc purchase of it until upgrading) and I remember loving the Xbox so much I traded nearly everything I had ps3 in minus a few games, for Xbox games.

Then my ps3 was stolen out of my apartment. :/

Nah, it's more like kicking a 21 year old in the face at the bar after he's been obnoxiously loud and acting like a 10 year old.

Kinda funny how nearly every Pro-PC person in these threads will point to the pros of a console and will even play on one for exclusives/friends/etc...but just about every console gamer except a select handful absolutely refuse to even acknowledge that a PC, or even their competitor console model is even remotely in the same league as their favorite, let alone even TRY playing on one.

I have a pc and a ps3, i love the ps3 but only for certain titles and of course lovefilm :P

The pc in my opinion will always be the favoured platform for mmos and rpgs (my opinion again) because it lends itself to that kind of play. I just cant see the pc market going anywhere especially with all the mmos coming out soon. Not everyone likes that type of game but it has always been my preferred platform. I will always play games like portal 2 on the ps3 though.

there is no reason to buy a gaming pc for 1 game once a year that pushes the hardware a little.
since all major titles are console games and then ported to pc. the visuals aint that better on pc

I play on PC only because I prefer mouse and keyboard with a 2560x1600 resolution monitor. For me, this is a reason. I also like the mods that come out for Elderscrolls.

For people that like consoles they are great but you wont catch me purchasing one.

PS3 have very good PS3 exclusive titels. But every game that is multi platform, the PS3 will always, and have always, been worse.
And thats cause its base hardware is alot worse then the Xbox. Xbox GPU, video card, is more then twice as strong as the PS3.
What the PS3 have, is a very complex CPU however, and with correct programming you can get some pretty amazing results with it.
The problem with that is, you need to focus that on the PS3.

Most cross games just touch what the PS3 can do due to complications and time.
PS3 can attain higher quality, by a margain, on exclusive titels, but fall away on every mutli platform. This is common knowledge and confirmed even within the PS3 community.
So, especially for Skyrim, you should buy it on Xbox and not on PS3.
You buy a PS3 only for PS3 exclusives and nothing else. You are better off having an Xbox if you want to play games in general.

For skyrim: Xbox have twice frame rate then PS3, as with most games, and the known bug on PS3 alone should keep players away from that console, alhough its being addressed in this patch.

PC although its great and all, the Console offers a different game experience the PC can never touch.
Not to mention the bugs and other issues.

EDIT: Almost forgot I played, Intelevision and Graphix14, and joust on an Atari800XL computer which was also a gaming console (it had a cartridge slot).

Most bugs encountered in Skyrim is from PC users.
I have played 120 hours of Skyrim on the Xbox without a single glitch. Not one. No arrows stuck, no flying animals etc. I just dont have it.

I was an ONLY PC player until 1.5 years ago. I refused to get an xbox.

What caught my attention was Red Dead Redemption.

And honestly, I was going to buy a PS3. But since a few of my friends have xbox, I thought it more practical.
First, I am really happy I did not get a PS3 due to the reason 99% of the games I play are multi platforms and I have seen with my own eyes the difference.
PS3 is a great console, but Xbox is better, for multi platform games. Xbox exclusives I dont give much for tbh, PS3 have better exclusive titels.

Anyway, point it, Gaming on console is so much better then on a PC and you will never understand until you sit back, put on your 40-60 inch HD TV and learn how to use the hand control.

There are no issues, no crashes, in general atleast, no need to reinstall windows or update drivers.
You plug in and you play, and a 6 years old console have still visuals that are 80% of modern PCs.
Its not bad.

Last but not least: There are more then 10 times console users then PC users.
Just face the fact that the PCs will live with ports in the future, IF they get them at all.
Business is business and the big buisness lies in making games that are great on PS3 and Xbox360 for now, and whatever consoles comes later.

MW2 sold 7 times as many copies on Console as on PC.

PC users needs to understand that its a platform only for MMOs today, all other games are made better on consoles, and are sold immensly more.

If you prefer consoles more power to you but that does not make console gaming better.

I played games only on Consoles including my first Elderscrolls game (Morrowind). I used all consoles from the one with Pong, Atari 2600, Atari 5600 (i think it was), NES, Sega, Super NES, Sega Genesis, PS1, PS2, XBOX, XBOX360 (got it for 50 bucks).

When playing Morrowind on the XBOX I had a problem with the game freezing so I went to the developers forums in 2003 and found it was available for PC. I immediately purchased the PC version and haven't looked back. I will never purchase another console or game on console as long as I live if I can help it this especially goes for any game that implements first person views and I will not buy any game that does not. My reasons for liking the PC platform are:

Higher resolutions (Other family members use the TV's in the house so works out great anyway)
Customizable interfaces
Customizable games sometimes
Mouse and keyboard (more accurate than game pads)
Hardware(i decide when i upgrade not the console manufacturer)

I think sites like Newegg are still doing pretty well selling PC parts.

I would like for a new generation console to come out soon, something that is much more powerful than current consoles, and then also be allowed to use mods.
I wonder how much that would cost though.

I am sure we all would like our games to keep improving in quality, and not be hampered by tech, PC or otherwise.

BTW, my answer is No.
