A DLC just for Vamp Fans?

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 2:34 am

Been playing TES games since Arena. I've killed a lot of vampires. If I caught the disease, I cured it.

Only once did I 'play' a vampire and that was in MW which had 3 clans to join to make it more interesting. Course eventually I cured it and really didn't use that character for much else. Why? Well becuase I just don't see a hero as being a vampire.

Dawnguard looks interesting, but other than a few added items everyone can use, it looks like this DLC is basically just for vampire fans. There are vampire fans, I get that, but there enough to build the whole first DLC around them?

I can just think of so many things that are more 'Skyrim' related than vampires. Were-creatures for one thing. Skyrim is known for them. I would have loved a DLC that would allow you to join the Silver Hand and hunt down all were-creatures in Skyrim (including some in a certain faction). That would have been Skyrim related, that would have fit right into the main game. It just feels like this DLC caters to just a small vampire fan-base who would rather be playing some other vampire related game.

Will this DLC 'fit' in Skyrim? Thoughts?

With Bloodmoon werewolves got their own DLC so maybe bethesda wants to make it fair? I'm just speculating here.

Not just for Vamp fans. We can join the faction who's fighting them(who the DLC is named after). You can kill all the Vampires you want.

Where did you get the idea that the Vampires were all you could join?

you act like this is the only dlc skyrim will get. In case you dont know MW had Bloodmoon which revolved around Werewolves so they had their spotlight and now it is the Hominus Nocturna's turn so deal with it. Not everybody plays the "hero" because TES lets you be whatever you want

if they did do a silver hand add on then anyone who completed the companion quest line could not play it, seeing as they have befriended the were folk. So this would be even more limiting than the vampire dlc. Also there have been leaks that a lycanthropy skill tree is being added to the dawnguard dlc, so were creatures may be catered for as well

MADNESS! my character has been waiting for a normal fighters type guild since skyrim came out, Its not just for vampire fans, This dlc will finally allow players who rp paladins to have a faction of their own, No paladin of mine would ever be a werewolf or a vampire :P

Really looking forward to this dlc.

The DLC also includes changes in a lot of areas non-related to Vampires and Dawnguard, not sure if we're allowed to talk about it here though.

I want to say that I absolutely detest vampires and their "immortality."

I also want to go on record that I like their idea of blotting out the sun, but no way in hell am I siding with vampires that give out vampire rewards.

…but now I feel like I'm being forced to fight for the light, when I am clearly a child of the night.

Besides, the Dawnguard may not even like the fact that I have werewolf blood. :swear:

Honestly it looks like it's going to expand a lot on vampires, which I think a lot of people have been a big fan of since Morrowind; but also it will allow other characters to enjoy the added content as well.
I've never been a big fan of being a vampire myself, but maybe it's time to give it a try again.

Also, unrelated, but big thumbs up for the blue star avatar.

I've never been a vampire in any of TES games so this should be interesting! However I just recently started playing skyrim again on a new character. Should I use the dawn guard DLC first on the old 96 hour character or the brand spanking new one?

I'm happy with a vampire DLC, I'm a huge fan of vampires and their lore, and when I started playing in Morrowind I was happy with the chance to play as one :) So now with a vampire centered DLC, I cannot wait :D

I remember reading somewhere, don't remember where that Dawnguard isn't gonna be for low level characters, so if that turns out to be the case then it might be wise to use your old one, unless you can level your new one pretty quick that is.

After that horse-armor fiasco, Bethesda hasn't done wrong with DLC. I'm sure there'll be something for everybody for at least one playthrough.

The DLC is definetly vampire centered, but I doubt it is made for vampire fans alone. Would be bad for business to cater to a so specific group I think.

There is more Content not directly geared to Just Vamp fans...whats that mean anyway for TES? its not like the DLC is set up to attract Vamp fans that didnt play TES to go at it now, thats just a side effect. it is as any other DLC addon - To add stuff - >:D

Saying that you get to hunt vampires is really irrelevant. It misses the point entirely. The DLC seems to be primarily about vampires and their plan to blot out the sun. The fact that morrowind had a werewolf dlc is also irrelevant.

It depends on how much extra stuff is there.

-Are there new lands to explore with all that follows (caves, ruins, etc...)?
-Are there new towns offering services, sidequests, etc...?
-Is there new content not specifically tied to the main quest and how much of it (new factions, quest lines, etc...)

Shivering Island, Bloodmoon had all of this.

Knights of the nine was basically a single articulated faction quest

Tribunal was in between.

Exactly. I mean, Bloodmoon might have been promoted as a werewolf expansion, but it had a lot of the best content in Morrowind. Even if you ignored the local main quest. (Obligatory "Horse Armor was better than Tribunal" comment here because I can't pass up a chance to express my disdain for it)

That said, I expect Dawnguard "only" has content for 70-80% of the non-vampire, non-werewolf market. It's just how these things run.

Isn't that the same as not catering solemnly to the vampire fans?

I don't see it as a DLC for vamp fans, I see it as a DLC with two factions one of which are Vampires. I would think they are going to be awsome adversaries. ( I probably won't be playing a vampire ) Plus their are other things on the DLC as well. I am really looking foward to horseback combat and new armor, even if it is only one or two sets.
