Does anyone sometimes just `walk`?

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 7:53 am

I generally walk until I get tired of my character. Then I find myself starting to run and hurry to finish quests to find out what is going to happen.

Are there people who explore the country at walking speed?

Yes. A friend of mine does this. The other night he wanted to show me something, so I had to sit there for 15 minutes while he walked to the place. I said, "Can't you just fast travel as you have discovered this place right?". He responded, "That is against my RP". My response to that is not repeatable on these forums.

Have not used walk a single time. I just sneak if I want to move a bit slower.

At first I ran everywhere, but now I walk when I'm in high RP mode (as opposed to "do the quest" mode). I usually do it in 3rd-person, to make sure I keep it to a walk or slow jog. The longest I did was from the far northwest corner of Falkreath Hold back to Falkreath. My character was mad at Faendal and did the whole thing in silence. There were no encounters, and I kept it to a walk the whole way. But I usually jog, alternating it with walking. I'm not completely mental. I just figure my character is young and in shape and can jog for a few miles at a time, as I could when I was younger.

I'm currently walk/jogging through Eastmarch and the Rift, trying not to do the main College quest line and resist other tempations to fast travel. I've learned not to get completely loaded down with loot when out in the middle of nowhere -- the temptation to pop back to Windhelm to sell it proved irresistable. But then I FT'ed back to where I was and resumed walking. I'm determined to walk to Riften.

One reason I do this is to drag the game out as long as possible. I'm not in any hurry to finish anything.

I only walk in the towns, or when I am exploring this huge world. However most time I just use the fast travel

I fast travel sometimes but mainly walk. I have never bought a horse, I can't stand them for some reason.

I used to walk or sneak to places in Fallout 3, but in Skyrim the encounters are fairly predictable, widely spaced, and once you've seen one mountain, you've seen them all.

I would walk if the place was a bit more dangerous, and a bit more random, but at the moment there's very few 'surprise' encounters, which doesn't necessitate walking anywhere to make it safer.

I do usually run everywhere but I feel like I want to slow down and see the scenery as well... but then when I try walking, it's just so darn slow I always wind up running anyway.

Speaking of which, is there a console command to make the player move faster? If I could just bump up the walking speed a little bit, it would be much nicer.

First button I hit is the Always Run toggle and never look back.
That's what I do, too. But I always sneak in dungeons.

LOL, I actually do all four of those. I'd walk around more often, like when exploring the countryside, but it gets annoying really fast, since Skyrim on Xbox doesn't have a toggle walk feature. >:/

I walk a lot, but I wish the walking speed was faster. I was using a mod called Realistic Run Speed that sped walking up about 25%, but it also slowed down running by around the same margin. I didn't have an issue with the slowed running playing my warrior, but with my archer it was too much of a hinderence. I tend to walk more often when I'm in 3rd person.

One thing I've really grown to enjoy about playing this game with a 360 controller is the fluid change in movement speeds. Using the stick it is so easy to transition from a slow creep to a fast pace. This is the first time I've played one of Bethesda's games on a console (Old computer now) so I wasn't sure how it was going to go but I've really come to enjoy using the controller for movement. It's great to stroll along side NPC's that I have to follow matching their walking speed perfectly. It's also fun when I'm in a dungeon and want to creep slowly into a room to see what's in it. The range of movement speed is so much better than the on/off of the keyboard. Eventually I'll go back to the PC when I upgrade so I can use mods but I may just stick with the controller even then. I walk a lot now but it happens so naturally I don't really have to think about it.

My character probably would, however the controller (me) doesn't have the patience for the slow pace of walking (so she runs). So currently she only walks in dangerous situations or if she's specifically out to gather alchemy ingredients.

For me, the world in this type of game is as important as the story, if not more so. Thus, I usually walk pretty much everywhere unless it's all the way on the other side of the map. This is less true after the first playthrough, but I still do plenty of walking.

To each his own, I suppose. I NEVER walk. I run and even sprint as long as my stamina bar permits. Outside of town I travel by horse and even have the horse sprinting as much as possible.

Actually, I'm like that IRL. Just not with a horse, but a car.

I walked for hours in this game. I took about 5-6 hours walking from Whiterun to the temple at the top of the Seven Thousand Steps, it was a great experience exploring the various mountain paths to get there.

lol, I also walked this but 5 or 6 hours??? It took about 2 I think, unless I lost track of time having fun

So it would appear I'm only person that walks everywhere... (aside from combat and/pressing issues)

I walk everywhere, I don't know why, it just seems that jogging across the land is... not epic. And I also eat and drink. I will take carriages ocassionaly....

I never fast travel. I walk everywhere. I will run and even sprint when it is realistic to do so. But normally, I am in no hurry. So....yes...

Well, interesting responses. I really only meant whether people walked around towns or in dungeons.

I have to salute people who actually walk (not run) across whole countrysides. The only time I`ve done this was when encumbered. But I walk around towns and interesting places as I said before.

I must admit I always feel weird when I run across the whole countryside for hours without stopping because I know this is impossible. I would have liked the Stamina system for running (optional).

Never hurt me in Morrowind. Mostly.

Carrying a couple hundred pounds of gear? No, you can't run all day. However, I know Ultra Marathoners who run for 24 hours pretty much non stop in their races. Of course they are not going to go into battle after that. So, let's say that running all day is improbable.
