Does anyone sometimes just `walk`?

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 7:19 am

Yeah, I do it to add emphasis to especially epic moments.

When I encountered my first dragon word wall for instance.

Other than that, I do walk quite a bit in stealth mode, just because I enjoy being a sneaky jerk.

Yah, this is one of the few games where just walking into particular scenes is sheer majesty. For some reason I'll find myself just taking an idle stroll down the main road of Riverun as well any time I go through it, gorgeous town.

I walk mostly because it seems to make the game freeze less often than moving at full speed :P

My character does a lot of walking. She doesn't like jogging all the time.

I walk all the time (or ride horses at their walking speed). Except when I have to run (or set the horse to gallop). E.g. escaping from a fight, or finding a place to hide before the sun when a vampire. I never Fast Travel. They should have random encounters (ahem...logically random encounters) while Fast Travelling. I'd use that more.

I walk:
- in my house because I don't want to knock over anything (yes I like to keep a clean house)
- in the thieves guild because I'm the thieves guild master, and walking there makes me feel like a baws
- in town sometimes just for the heck of it

Besides that, I'm always running.

"So there I was tending my farm as usual when out of nowhere this crazy character dressed in some outlandish red and black armour that made him looks quite fiersome comes sprinting past the gate.
I thought I was done for and vaguely wondered if I had time to pray to Mara before being disemboweled.
But he just rushes past me, grabs half my crops, raids the chicken coup and wooshes out again like a bat out of hell.
So thats why Im in the inn at eleven in the morning drinking strong liquor, thank you. And Ill have another one too."

I tend to walk quite a lot. I play a mage type character with 150 health and stamina and the rest in magicka.
Even with the ethereal shout I dont get to run for very long. But I dont mind, I get to see more of the landscape while walking.

Myself, it took me maybe ten minutes of playing it on my PC with a mouse and keyboard before I gave in and plugged in my XBox controller (beyond anything else, I prefer to play in third-person, and the movement with a keyboard was just really wonky; but fixed it right up once I started playing with a joystick.)

What I do like about having an anolog stick for movement, though, is the more organic way that I can move through the world. Playing as a thief type, most of my dungeon crawling is spent creeping along the corridors. But I find that even when I'm out in the world exploring, that I'll do a fair amount at a walking pace. Or even just kind of alternating between the two.

It's a very pretty world that Bethesda has created, and it's kind of nice to stroll around and take in the sights, I find. I don't have any really hard and fast rules for when I run or when I walk, but I find I just naturally switch between the two as the mood suits me. Especially when it's a road I haven't been down before, I find I usually end up in a kind of slow jog most of the time.

I just don't have the patience to move at walking speed. Even when I'm overencumbered I keep using power attacks and the whirlwind spring shout to move faster.

Unfortunately, Bethesda sabotaged the PC version so you`ll want to use an Xbox controller on it.

Still, the PC controls are configurable (most of the move ones at least) and once that`s done I can play it pretty much like the previous games.

Still a pain using the UI, but I will not be railroaded by Mcrosoft and Beth to go and buy a whole control pad!

I always walk in towns as it seems proper to do so. I also change clothes when I get to a town, changing into a proper dress (I'm still working on my outfit to wear when I visit any royals). I also walk in dungeons as you just never know what's around the corner. I will run if something is chasing me and I need to get out of the way quickly. When I'm on a quest, I will run to the location as it seems that's what an adventurer would do when asked to do something for someone. I do find often that the scenery will catch my attention and I will come to a dead stop to take it all in (and take a picture).

Always (well, off-combat, of course). And no fast travel (carriages allowed).

I don't play often, so when I do, I like to take it all in. I walk, a lot, even between cities.

I tend to be either running or sneaking, with plenty of sprinting around filling up with potions or healing spells. Only on rare occasions do I actually walk, typically only when following a slow mover or when admiring something beautiful.

There is no walk mode on the 360 sadly, and I am too lazy trying to push the thumbstick just forward enough to balance the animation perfectly
