Does anyone sometimes just `walk`?

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 12:17 am

Now I know most of us who travel the countryside, etc usually run. I do. I can understand how hard it is to walk for such a long way, but do you ever really just walk?

There are times I will walk.

1.Every time I come up to a town entrance I will stop and walk into the gate. Don`t seem right to shoot past the guards.
2. When I enter a new town for the 1st time I`ll walk just to take in the atmos like the heros in movies do.
3. I`ll walk if entering a dungeon until I know it`s safe.
4. I`ll walk to view anything interesting like a huge ominous statue somewhere or a beautiful flowing waterfall.

I suppose for me it`s a little roleplaying and making things immersive for myself. And it`s a kind of reverence, just running through everything like a flea on fire seems disrepectful of all that`s before us to see.

I will walk occasionally in a town, but rarely outside. I also tend to walk in "vertical" dungeons as I hate the clippy motion of running up or down stairs..

Sometimes I do in towns and other relatively peaceful places. When I'm following an NPC I always walk until they start getting ahead of me, then I'll run a bit and then continue walking.

Its strange how the NPCs are walk much faster than you're character.

I walk in towns, and sometimes along a road, depending on where I am at, if im walking through the swampy area, I run, because I hate spiders >.< But if im in the Riften-Markarth area (southern part) I usually walk, depending on what im doing :) And, fast travel kills the game, I dont recomend it.

Most NPC's are nords and have a walk speed of 1.3

Orcs are 1.4, High Elves are like 1.6 or 1.8 or something.

all other races are 1.0... except a couple female types, and the male bretons, are actually less than 1.

Also affects your reach and melee damage.

Yeah, I just walk a lot. I'm usually rp'ing when I do, or just enjoying Markarth.

This. Unless I'm just starting out and I don't have that sneak perk, I'm always in run mode.

Yes, I walk around quite a lot. (not at full speed walking, or sprinting)

I walked for hours in this game. I took about 5-6 hours walking from Whiterun to the temple at the top of the Seven Thousand Steps, it was a great experience exploring the various mountain paths to get there.

Nope, never, unless I have to move to a certain object that running would go past it. The game is too big for me to walk everywhere, I hate doing it, it takes too long, I have never been, nor will I ever be an "RP'er".

I walk absolutely everywhere, infact I discovered every location on the map while walking and exploring. It's the only way to travel !

I'm totally RP'ing a character who just wants to get from point A to point B in the shortest amount of time. :twirl:

I only walk when an NPC says "follow me" and then walks (like following Mirabelle around when you first join the Mages College), or walking behind Tolfdir when you first enter Saarthal. However, I'm so impatient, I only can stand walking for like a minute hahahahaha

when something seems potentially fatal i will usually walk untill i get into a bit of trouble (i will walk over the small log over the pit of death but when somethign attacks me i will sprint acorss!), and sometimes i will walk because im busy taking in the sights or because im following someone (although it is normaly because i am sneaking past a room full of armed [stupid  ] imperials so i can get to my target)

I'm not sure everyone understood the question the same way I did. We're talking about walking instead of running, yes? Not instead of sprinting, travelling on horseback or fast-travelling?

Are there people who explore the country at walking speed?

I understand there is a relationship between height and running/walking speed.

Not to sure about the melee damage and reach though, where did you find this out?

To the OP, had a good walk around blackreach, then used unrelenting force on the ceiling. You know what happens there, kinda broke the peace ha.

I do the same. I like to do as you said. I RP a little to make the experience more immersion.

I walk when I am in new areas. Sometimes I get off the trail and get lost on purpose. But I don't do it too often because I will be playing a hunter character soon that avoids the big cities and main roads and stays off the main trail. I am looking forward to it. :)

I walk when I'm overencumbered, heh. But that's not what you are asking for here? is it?

Well when I'm tailing someone I don't like to sneak or run around them. I'll walk as casually as possible.
And when I am going to murder a person for the Dark Brotherhood, I'll walk about the town to not bring about attention to myself.
It's usually for roleplaying purposes but I have this 'inner logic' which makes me feel like I need to do it or I'll destroy my immersion.
