Dragon Attacks are the most annoying and frustrating feature

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 1:59 pm

EDIT: First off I'm not a complainer. THis is the first thread I have made that I described something I disliked. Instead of saying "deal with it" you can post some ideas on what I CAN DO.

Also people aren't understanding what I'm complaining about. I'm not saying that Dragon Attacks should never happen. I'm complaining about how long and just boring the fights are. It's more of a nuisance then it is fun.

Seriously, especially when I want to get something done fast. Like I have 10 min to make it to this place without fast traveling, I can do it. First minute bam a dragon appears.

It's very annoying.

I think Dragon attacks are great

In 200 hours of play, I've killed 47 Dragons.

That's an average of a Dragon every 4 hours (roughly)

I disagree with just about every single negative thing said about them in this thread.

I think Beth has done a fine job getting the balance right. My "eye" still puckers when I hear that first roar in the distance!

An option to turn off Dragons?

Are you serious?

Isn't Dragon-fighting one of the main reasons most of us bought the game in the first place?

Number one: If you don't have a decent chunk of time to game, maybe your playing the wrong game for you.

Number two: It's very true to life. I only have ten minutes to get to work. Stopped by train, stopped by stop lights, stopped by traffic jam. Very annoying. Where is the forum where I whine about this?

...and where are you going to where the action is so much more fun and intense than the dragon fight? itching to get to a few more draugr or forsworn?

My only beef with dragons is that about one spawn in 20, I would like there to be an "uber dragon". Like you realize when you see it that if you don't use every potion you have, you are dead.

But I do realize that if this was implemented, we would have one thread a day saying "uber dragons svck".

I didn't read through the whole thread, but you don't have to deal with dragons, if you never start the MQ. My character is level 40 and has never seen a dragon so far. However, I actually started to miss the dragon battles and the souls to unlock my shouts, so I just started the MQ (again LOL - 4th character)

just dont do the main quest.

This is true with the exception that if you want to do the Civil War Quest on Imperials side, the Jarl of Whiterun wont talk to you until you've killed the dragon by the Western Tower. You either have to abandon anolther quest chain or you do like I did and go kill the dragon and now have to fight dragons ever time I go someplace and not just fast traveling either.

There are no time limits in the game. You don't have 10 minutes to make it to a place "or else".

Dragons are returning, it's a major part of the game. The unpredictably and the fact that people help and can be killed makes it a lot more believable.

I think the issue isn't that the Dragons are returning it's the shear number of them returning, and where they are popping up. When I'm running along a road I expect to encounter bears, wolfs, or even bandits. How many times have you seen NPC's attacked by the aforementioned, even when you aren’t involved with those NPC's, but you never go to a major city and see a dead dragon or ten bodies laying around, so your argument of believability doesn't hold up they only attack when you come to a city, how many times do you go to Dawnstar and see a dead dragon and how many times do you go to Dawnstar and a dragon appears.

There have always been annoying things attached to the story line. Morrowind had ash zombies that would appear when you slept, Oblivion has Oblivion gates and Skyrim has dragons.

How many Oblivion gates attacked you in a city?

I love the unpredictability that the dragons add to the game.

Everyone says they want realism, but when they get it they complain. Consider for a moment that dragons are real, why do you think that everytime you see one it is going to attack you? Why can't it make a few attacks on a city and move on? Maybe it notices you, does once pass over and continues on it's journey. The whole "I see dragon, it's not attacking me, its not doing what I think it should do, this game is broken" attitude is really, really, stupid.

Exactly this.

If Dragons were the only aspect of the game then everyone would just deal with them. But two issues arise one, the primary quest chain is specificlly desgined to deal with the dragon problem, and even though you kill the main protagonist the problem is still there. In Oblivion when you completed the main quest chain did anymore oblivion gates open? And two because there are more quest chain than the primary, you want to imerse yourself in that aspect of the game and not have to kill a dragon everytime you go to Winterhold or Dawnstar.

But it's not realism because the only time dragons attack is when they attack you, as I have said when was the last time you fast traveled to a city and see the effects of a dragon attack, have you ever walked into Solitude and found a dead dragon? Or arrived in Dawnstar and found dead bodies laying everywhere. The only time dragons attack and the only place the attack is where you are, you only see them at a distance is in the direction you are going, if you came across a bandit camp that got wiped and you saw scorch markls of frost points you would think a dragon but the only time you see that happen is when you are heading to that area.

I guess the dragons aren't for everyone. Anytime I encounter a dragon I immediatly throw my headphones on and prepare for an epic fight, it feels realistic to me.

I hugely enjoy teh dragon fights, it's just epic and gorgeous animation and effects...and they get harder as I level up, but I found it is best to sit back and watch if other NPCs are fighting them, to avoid ridiculous bounties, then run over at the end for a free dragon soul. Running away is also an option but I always prefer to respond to an attack in kind

BUT WHY DO HORSES ATTACK DRAGONS? What kind of fantasy realism is that? I wonder if chickens attack too?

Can we please disable friendly fire with a mod?!

There is somewhat of a valid point however, especially with all the bugs that have been happening with dragons.

I have had dragons circle me for miles and do nothing. I've also had them drop into the middle of a city, look around and then fly off with no follow up.

Some aspects of the dragons are bugged, which make them annoying and sometimes frustrating.

Hi,

actually it makes sense in a way. You don`t know why they act this way but it doesn`t have to be a meaningless behaviour for the dragon concerned.

Have completed the main quest, put in about 14 hours this weekend, and saw maybe 3 dragons total. One taking out a forsworn town, one around Dawnstar, and a word wall dragon. By biggest complaint about them is the fights are to repetative, once you have Dragonrend (that is how you make them land for those unaware) it becomes so easy they're little more than annoyances. The only real problems they cause for me, is that they consistently kill my freshly bought horse, it never fails.

This is the only thing that svcks about a beth-game, as soon as I download the CK, I'll be scripting several NPCs to do just that!

You can usually run away from them if you want to. If you have enough stamina/stamina potions you can just take off and get out of the area. Of course you can wind up somewhere you don't want to be, but that's not a big deal. Just fasttravel to whereever it is you were wanting to go. If they happen as you're coming out of a dungeon/house/etc. just go back inside and wait 24-48 hours and they're usually gone.

If you go back inside do they continue to attack townspeople? I don't want to come back out to a street full of bodies. Really, I don't mind fighting them myself but I just don't want dead townsfolk. If they would just go away if I went indoors or would chase after me if I ran away from the town it would be better.
