Dragon Riding [merged topics]

Ok first off. Some people are mad about the dragon riding.... To me the dlc is epic by itself. The dragon riding is ok. Could have been epic. But it's ok.

First off let's go over what EXACLY dragon riding is. In truth dragon riding is simply sitting on a dragon when it flys period!!!! Dragon mounts on the other hand are dragon you can sit on when it flys, and be able to direct the flying direction.

So over all you can say you are riding a horse even if you are not in control of it. But if its a mount. Then you should be in control of it.

People keep saying that "dragon mounts" could not be possible for this game. This I have to disagree with you. First off dragon mounts could not work technologically ONLY for a few reasons. But these reasons could be negated with a little editing. After all. nothing is impossible!!!!

1) the dragon would go too fast resulting in not being able to process all the AI, items, textures.
This problem could easily be avoided by lowering the speed of the dragon. This would not damage the speed a dragon could travel skyrim by much, and would lower the amount of information that the Xbox would have to process at a time. My proof of this is in this video:
http://m.youtube.com/?client=mv-google&rdm=04vk#/watch?v=qq95EE5pf-k&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dqq95EE5pf-k
In this video it shows that if the dragon is moving at a slow enuf speed. It can slow the process of information to a playable pace. My proof of the dragon moving at a slower speed of regular dragons is around 3:00 in the video. But hay even if the dragon moves slow. It would still be the fastest way to travel skyrim as you can fly over mountains

2) another problem would involve the ground. This is actually the main problem with computers. If a controllable dragon riding (dragon mounts) would be made. They creator would have to add a barrier to stop the dragon from just flying in to the ground, trees, and keeps. This can be a problem as skyrim is HUGE. It would take a very long time to make all those barriers Around the map. On top of that it still would not look cool if you hit the ground. But hay it can be done if you have the time to do it.
But hay this is only about hitting the ground. what about ground combat?
First off the areas a dragon can land are pathetic. They are glitchy and in other words not dragon compatible. It would take a lot more time to make those landing zones and the areas around them dragon friendly. Other wise you will be stuck in a rock that you thought the dragon could climb over.

As for problems of exploiting and landscape degrading. First off there are not much exploits with dragon mounts. And the ones that possibly could exist are not nearly as bad as the ogma infinium, and restoration exploits.
As for landscape degrading. In other words people are worried that dragon mounts would degrade the landscape due to the fact that you would be able to just fly over mountains that would have taken 30 minutes To travers on a horse.
First off dragon mounts are a must needed feature to stop the fast travel bull [censored]. Really I tried just using a horse and not the fast travel. It did not work. If there was something that I could use to travel the HUGE landscape in a reasonable time, and still retain the feeling of skyrim. It would be dragon mounts.

People are worrided that the dragon could just fly through skyrim in a matter of secounds. This is not true. It would take a dragon at least 10 minutes to fly the length of skyrim at full speed. But because we know that flying at full speed is not gonna work. Flying at a speed of 1-2 times the speed of a horse would likely retain the vast ness of skyrim. And if you think flying the speed of a horse is slow for a dragon think again. It would take a horse 30 minutes to go around the mountain. When it would only take the dragon 1 minute to fly over it.

What would need to be done in order to make dragon mounts possible?
A lot of work. I have come up with a kind of mechanic that could possibly work. But hay I will post it later. I can see I've given you too much to read for now

And if you think flying the speed of a horse is slow for a dragon think again. It would take a horse 30 minutes to go around the mountain. When it would only take the dragon 1 minute to fly over it.

Yeah, I wasn't really expecting controllable dragon mounts. Part of Skyrim's appeal is the apparent vastness of the world, but a lot of that isn't simply the size of the map; it's partly how difficult it is to traverse because of all the mountains. It would feel a lot less expansive if you could just fly over all of the obstacles and cross the map in 10 minutes.

Really I tried just using a horse and not the fast travel. It did not work.

Might just be your opinion, there. Many people don't use fast travel and rely on horses etc. to get around. I certainly have been for my last few playthroughs; it really makes the world seem huge if you have to slog through it yourself.

Still if they added it. Wouldn't you look at skyrim with a new attitude like "now this is epic!!!!".

In stead of "ok ya that's cool. Whatever".

I'l be honest, I only read the title and not your post. The question is "Dragon riding, is it really riding" and the answer is yes. Yes you ride dragons, regardless of control.

Correct. But it would still feel more epic and adventurous than the fast travel system.

Really think about it.

Fast travel or dragon mount hmmmmmmm

If you have chosen fast travel. I pity you!!!!!!

If you are on a horse, and do not have control of it. Then I suppose you could say you are riding a horse......but wouldn't that kinda loose the point of it.

It comes down to the difference between mounts and objectivity riding. Horses are the former and dragons are the latter. Dragon mounts are easily achievable on xbox and I have no idea why they weren't implemented. I don't care for them myself though so there isn't an issue here ;)

I believe dragon mounts should be implemented. Firstly because they can be implemented.but mostly because it would get rid of the need to fast travel. Really choose
Epic dragon mount travel. Or loading screen?

The title was the question. I answered it as I read it. As for what you said after, I read it after I posted. I can see what you are saying, which makes the title a rhetorical question. Either way it's been answered ;)

If I used fast trael, it would be a loading screen. The whole point of fast travel is that it is fast. Dragon mounts in the current concept take way too long. I think they should be implemented too if only to stop people complaining about them.

Like I said in my post, I choose neither and get on a horse . For me, part of the fun of skyrim is the adventuring (and getting diverted for hours at a time) along the way to a quest marker. I've tried flying mounts in Skyrim before (mods), and it really detracts from the world if you can breeze over huge swathes of it in minutes. If it really wasn't simply because there would be performance issues on some consoles, then I certainly understand why Bethesda didn't implement controllable mounts.

Right now the choices are 1) fast travel.
Or 2) get on a horse and spend the next hour getting to the other side of skyrim.

I want there to be another choice
3) get on a dragon, and spend the next 10 minutes getting to the other side of skyrim in the most epic way possible.

But then that isn't fast travel? Do you not see my point? You are saying I want a new fast travel option that isn't fast. What you should be saying is I want Dragon Mounts because i'd like to be able to control my own dragon on an epic trip across Skyrim. No offence meant of course.

I am not trying to give a new fast travel to the game. I want there to be another option besides a horse or fast travel

Horses take way to long. It really pushes people to use the fast travel system when they only have to go kill a evil bunny.
Really would you waste a hour just to complete a simple task.

If they added dragon mounts. Then the player would be given another option of being able to travers the distance in a reasonable time. Without the need to degrade the true feeling of the game by looking at a loading screen.

On top of that its "dragon riding" there is nothing more epic!!!!!!

And I quote:

 No, its riding a dragon. Please, do go to a roller coaster ride, and tell everyone who just rode it they never rode a roller coaster because they couldn't steer. They just sat there and did nothing and that's not riding a roller coaster.

Yes, it is. It proves my point perfectly. To ride on something, you sit on it and it moves. Control is irrelevant. Like people surfing a wave. You control the surf board, but you dont control the wave, yet people say you "rode the wave". The fact that I have to tell people what riding is is really sad.

If I went by your definition and said it has to have control, it'd STILL be riding, because you can control where the dragon goes by fast travel, locking on enemies and toggling through targets. STILL DRAGON RIDING.

In truth I will not argue with the logic that if you are on something, and it moves that it is riding.

In truth my tittle was a rhetorical question.

But me and many other people wanted dragon mounts. There are many reasons people wanted it. But I believe the main one was to stop the need to constantly use the fast travel option.

If you are on a horse yet do not have control. You can be said to be riding a horse. But if you do not have control of the horse then it cannot be considered a mount.

So if I have a girl on the back while I am controlling the horse, is she not riding the horse? NVM, yes they are not mounts. My bad, jumped the gun a little.

I would and have wasted an hour just to do a quest ;) Again, I do see what you are saying but I don't think it's needed. Many people agree with me and many people agree with you. At the end of the day, we have to make do with what we've got.

I see that's a very common trait among most people.

I kinda think its silly though because most of us are having a conversation at the most resent posts. And when someone come in yelling about something we already talked about......it kinda ends our conversation

No offense. I am just telling you some logic.

Look, at the risk of this turning into a burnt thread, i'll step right out of this thread. Maybe the title should have been worded differently. The title and the post don't go well when asked rhetorically as people can't hear what context something is written in. I think you have a nice idea, but doubt it will be implemented. See you on another thread :)

I understand, but anything and everything in a topic is in the discussion, not just the most recent occurrences. Thats how threads work. If I wished to speak on something recent, I would have quoted someone. There's absolutely nothing wrong with discussing something a bit older in a thread, especially when it doesn't even have a second page.

And especially given your title and opening statement.
