This is BY FAR the most disappointing thing that has ever been in an Elder Scrolls game! I am an avid Elder Scrolls player and have been since I played Morrowind and it stole my heart. It has been well over a decade that I have been playing this series and it is in my opinion the best RPG series ever created. Everything else pales in comparison to the incredible lore that they have created as well as the open-ended world and the freedom to do what you please is what makes this series stand above the rest. Now when you go and promise things in a video game you have to be able to deliver, something Bethesda has never really had a problem with, until this. The rest of the DLC was phenomenal; the realms of Hermaeus Mora were a twisted marvel to behold.[BTW- I am glad to see more on the Daedric lord of forbidden knowledge!

THANK YOU !] As well as the story behind Miraak and everything else was on par, if not above, what we've come to expect with the series. I wish the dragon riding, as it stands now(current implementation), should not have made the final cut into the expansion because you have no control over the beast that you have tamed and it didn't even play an integral role within the quest or story for that matter(other than riding to the top of Miraaks tower). And that (control) is the main driving force, other than lore, freedom of choice and storytelling, behind a game like this. I hope for us, the fans, that this issue will be resolved, for we are the sole purpose of this games creation and I truly believe that this feature, if you could call it that, feels unnecessary, useless and just tacked on last minute without any thought.(Eventhough I know that is not true, that is just the way that it feels)
I am unsure, as we all are, as whether the decision to implement this feature, in the way that you guys went about it, was in fact due to limitations within the Creation engine or not. It just seems to me that there was something holding you back because I cannot see that this is how you had envisioned something as epic as this. I knew going into this expansion that I was going to be disappointed with the dragon riding, mainly due to the amount of hype. I knew there was going to be a catch and/or drawback to it, such as (hint, hint) only being able to do it once a day or for a limited amount of time, or(and this is what i speculated) that you would only be able to do it on Solstheim. (the reason that I thought that you would only being able to do it in Solstheim was I knew it was going to be either EXTREMELY difficult or impossible to add a feature as massive as that into the game world as it stands) I did not, however, foresee that it was going to feel so constrained that it was not even enjoyable. And that, for me, is one of the biggest questions you must ask yourself as a game maker: Is this enjoyable? Is it something that we are proud of? If the answer is no or if you are even unsure, then it is something that you should take out of the game. You don't want to just give the players what they want if you cannot do it to the best of your ability. And even if it is done to the best of your ability, if its not enjoyable then it ultimately
must be scrapped.
One of the hardest things to do when creating a game or anything for a game is to not be too overambitious. Over ambition is a double edged sword within the game industry as well as any other creative outlet for that matter. It is what creates the best but also what can either hinder or even destroy the best. This is extremely difficult because you want to try new things to push the limits and/or boundaries of what is either commonplace or what is believed to not be possible within the scope of either current capabilities do to technological constraints or something that has never been implemented well or even at all. There are many more reasons but I feel that those listed above are the most relevant and major ones. Also, trying to please everyone is
NEVER going to happen, so you must take it upon yourself to do what you feel is the right move for your game as a whole, despite what others may say. I do think that you guys are the best(other than indie companies, I'm talkin' AAA only) in terms of listening to your fan base and what they want, then delivering. This is a very tricky thing though as you want to do it right so that it doesn't fall flat. Another reason why this had to be so beyond what we could possibly fathom, is the amount of hype that was around this.
On a lighter note I do believe that this DLC is by far the best that we've seen in Skyrim, even coming close to The Shivering Isles for Oblivion. Still, however, Morrowind reigns supreme! lol. I still love you guys and hope to see more DLC from you coming to us in the near or distant future. Doesn't matter when as long as it comes!

May the blessings of the Nine Divines be upon you!
