Well achievement hunting can be very addictive.
It's very hard to explain to someone who does not care much for them.
Ironically, I'm not even much of an achievement hunter. :confused:

well over here in australia you can go into ebgames pay 100 bucks for a game (thats how much games are here, its retearded) and then you can play it and bring it back within 7 days and say that you didnt like it then pick out another game, and repeat.
and doing this makes it a lot easier when you know the guy who works at the store =)
so me and about four mates, we do that weekly and we compete to see who can get the most gamerscore, but other than that i dont care about achievements, but for good game, like fallout i really couldnt care less about them

Actually, the goat trophy gave me some problems. On my first playthrough the trophies hadn't been implemented yet when I took the G.O.A.T. On the second I skipped the goat through dialog. When I got around to making a third character the game glitched when I sat down and the test didn't start. So, it took me four times into that part of the game to get the trophy.

I'm not saying achievements are bad,i just dont care about them,or gamer score.
Some people just get obsessed about them....taking away the point of the game in the first place,especially the younger generation ( but thats up to them ).
If people appreciate a game & get achievements thats fine....i just dont see the point in buying games just for game score reasons,you can miss out on so much doing that.
Especially good games that have a great story,good exploration etc....Plus the hard work and ideas dev's put into the game...all that is missed out..especially when obsessed with gamer score. Like i said i know people who just buy games for that reason,does'nt make sense to me.
If i was dev ( obviously ) i would want to make money,but i would also want people to enjoy my work & appreciate it....& not skip most of that creativity,just to rush through to get gamer points....but thats just me

I don't care about them either. I was just wondering what creates all this fuss. "Oh. My. God. The list is revealed, people! It's ALIVE!", "The list svcks, I am disappoit!" (exaggerating on purpose there) That stuff. Try as I might, I just don't get what's so special about them. What's the catch?

I don't think people buy the games solely for gamer score.
But if you've completed a game you love and you want to play it again it can be a good thing to check up on the achievements to find some that present a challenge or something you didn't think of doing the past playthrough and therefor give a little more replayability or just challenge to complete for a sense of personal accomplishment.

I like to enchant my items and create spells in oblivion that allow me to jump higher and further and then I try to reach the highest points in the game with the items and spells and without them for personal achievement, but it would be nice to have a window pop-up saying "You know what, you actually made it to this roof, here, have some gamer-score".
It's not truly important, doesn't do anything but you feel a little rewarded by doing it.

Killing 300 people in fallout 3 wasn't for personal achievement at all, I just played the game, and they just give me an achievement, you know what game? This is not an achievement, I didn't do anything. I just played the game without even trying and you just decide to give me one for not doing anything?
Do I feel like I accomplished something?
No.

"Doesn't Play Well with Others" == fail at feeling like an achievement.
Same with many of these achievements.

The PS3 will have 1 more achievement.

Who cares? Obsession? Well, there are a lot of gamers out there.... and out of all of those people, there are some that like to brag, some that like to display their accomplishments, and others that don't really care too much for the system, or not at all. If you fail to see the importance of something, you can be sure that someone else out there does. Could be that they're very proud of something they achieved and want to show their friends online.

Yeah, having a virtual trophy is one of the things on my '10 Things to do Before I Die' list.

Achievements are there for that extra feeling of accomplishment when you do something for the first time. As you can see, a large number of achievements on this list are, well, quest related,

I don't see the point in "achievement points", though. I'd prefer plain achievements: those mean a lot more than an arbitrary number.

That's not a given. The platinum trophy is usually for getting all the other trophies, but I don't think it has to be. If I recall correctly the limit with platinums is just 1 per game. Perhaps the beat the game on hardcoe trophy is the platinum.

To be totally clear: FNV branches quite a bit. It is impossible to get all of those quest-specific achievements on a single playthrough. It will take several to get them all. The point of doing that is that every playthrough you'll walk away with a handful of achievements no matter how you play.

It's pretty annoying when I play a game to completion and still only have 100 achievement points to show for it.

That makes sense. A lot of people won't be playing it that way, after all, but on the other hand, it is the way it is meant to be played, so it's still not that great of an achievement.

Agreed. The achievements are nice, but you're basically earning them by playing normally. So like gabriel77dan mentioned before, it's more of a checklist.

Finding all the snowglobes on the other hand, is an achievement.

just did some counting real quick...fallout 3 had 29 quests (combining the main quests and side quests) and fallout new vegas has 24...unless FNV has quests that you dont get achievements for, then wth? XD

@ the achievo arguement, the only people who care about their gamerscore are the little 12 year olds (No ofense to you kids that dont care) who play every game they get their hands on and think that MW2 is the best game ever made. gamerscore is a way of saying "Hey dude your epeen needs feeding buy another game." and companies are making millions because idiots are buying every terible game just to try and get theirs higher. Ive had people remove me from the FL on live because of my gamerscore (At a 12000 or so) saying that im not a good enough gamer. Sad age of gaming is sad and is the reason I still play my PS2 FREQUENTLY.

Some people just like the points. Others not so much. No big deal. A bit of a silly reason to go back to PS2. I'm assuming it's more because of a particular game you enjoy that's not on your 360. I don't think I could bare going back to a PS2 at this point.

I like to hunt achievements sometimes and I have a pretty high score (I think) but I don't go around and brag about it.
Kinda arrogant to file every person who cares about their score under "12 year olds who think MW2 is the best game ever".
I don't like MW2, but I do like hunting achievements for the games that I decided to purchase.
But I don't buy games for the achievements, I buy them because I want to buy them.
