Since quests are the things that arguably are at least somewhat challenging to do, it seems odd that you would advocate not having achievements for them.
If they wind up being things like "Kill Ten Deathclaws with a Silenced .22 Pistol," they're so marginal/edge-case that virtually no one would get any of them.
Yes but none of these seem fun or inspired such as complete randomness as per The Orange Box. I ws laughing my ass off when I beaned the Combine Soldier in the head in the very beginning of the game since I got 5 achievement points for it in Half-Life 2. See, random low point fun achievements are way more fun compared to crap you'd normally do otherwise. That's why The Orange Box has 99 achievements and well thought out ones too.
So I'm going to vote meh since alot of these don't seem very inspired and you get them as you play the game, especially quests. Why not rework the points and make some for completely random and unexpected especially the types I mentioned above. This just seems very lazy and not at all creative.
What about something for getting all the Snowglobes and a display for it too i.e. The Bobbleheads from Fallout 3? I hope alot of these achievements for quests are also tied in for loot and experiences to make it worth my while.
The achievements I hate the most are the complete a level, here's an achievement! 15 = 1000 achievements and no reason to play this game anymore! That's why I sold my GotYE of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion since you just got them only for the main and guild quests, nothing at all for side quests and doing various random crap. I'm glad I own Oblivion for PC though since that's more immersive and the 1250/1250 achivement score was bogus anyway for 360. Absolutely no creativeness went into that. What's the point when they're mediocre then?
http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/half-life-2-the-orange-box/achievements/ <---I've had alot of fun with various achievements from The Orange Box. Alot of them I didn't even check beforehand and actually made me try out different things in the game. Of which actually made me enjoy that compilation even more. So yes the achievements for FALLOUT: New Vegas seem more tedious compared to fun.
Case in point, I was more intrigued for FO3's Point Lookouts Spy side-quest compared to the main one. No achievement for this side-qest even though it could've been alotted 5 points? I'm just glad Fallout 1 or 2 isn't available on XBOX Live Arcade since of course very pitiful achievements would be given to those. Especially since I enjoy playing as a very low intelligent character and ahve great fun at the dialog choices.
I certainly hope the giving damage is accumulative throught a playthrough. Before joining a particular faction, of course I'll make a save beforehand. Actually alot of these damage achievements seem more worthy of a berserker spree.
Sorry J.E. Sawyer, I'm a bit let down by this list. Should've had more brainstorming for even just alotting alot of 5 pointers for doing complately off the wall fun things. For Fallout 3, I got at achievement for getting not very many icons on my map saying I was an explorer when alot of them didn't have their icons filled in. Yes I am an explorer and to me it's more of an achievement to get all those place markers. Are there any achievements for various side-quests?
Sorry for the blatant lack of enthusiasm. Will each specific achievement have its own little individualistic drawing? I hope it's not a boring copy-paste bore-fest i.e. CONAN.
What about Secret Achievements?
EDIT: For DLC achievements, I hope very low points will be awarded for each one so there'll be more of them per 100 points. Make it more of a fun effort to have the player think to theirselves, Oh I haven't gone and done xyz yet? I'll play this game even more! Oh wow I got some random points just for dikeing around and having fun? This game is great! <---Things like that would possibly give the player more of a reason to attempt various things in the game instead of having their hand being held or being on a leash. I hope these achievements are reworked, given more achievements and of course more creativity instead of it seeming tedious.
Spoiler Makes me wonder why I don't work with a video game company such as Valve where they actually come up with creative off the wall achievements.
So yes, I in fact would really care if these were reworked and given more thought.
Sorry for long wall of text. I'm still glad I put the almost full reserve for the Collector's Edition on XBOX 360.
