correct me if i am wrong, but those pictures are of the west coast, are they not?
i myself am not aware of the differences in atmospheric conditions of the east and west coast, post nuclear war.. so i cant really say it doesnt belong, can i?
I can't imagine there being much of a difference in this case, but Mothership Zeta shows the entire Earth as having a sickly green color so I don't think that it's simply regional. Come to think of it though the Pitt actually didn't have the tint (though the sky had a rusty look), so I have no idea what Bethesda's view on this really is. The Pitt has no tint (save for sky color), but Fallout 3, Point Lookout and certainly Mothership Zeta imply that the green tint is not simply regional.
I understand what you mean + I agree. It just doesn't bother me - I don't see it as radiation fog as much as a color palette, and I like it as such (in fact the one thing that doesn't make sense is the year - make it 30 years after the war instead of 200 and the majority of the things that don't make sense will fall into place!) I don't remember the cutscenes from FO1&2, but I remember the ground, which I spent almost all my time in those games looking at, and what impressed me since the first time I played was that the game had that dirty, gloomy, brownish look everywhere. I'm sure it would be extremely different if you could look up and see a clear bright blue sky, but I doubt it would do any good to the overall atmosphere.
That's fair I simply don't like it because I think it ruins what is otherwise a nice looking game, and because it's a bit inconsistent. Personally I think everything looks
a lot better with Fellout; now if only the Sacred Bog weren't so buggy with the Point Lookout plugin.
Let's not forget that they're trying to portray a drab and desolate world, here. In the old Fallout games, it didn't matter what the sky looked like - you never saw it (with the exception of a couple of render stills - where the color of the sky was likely picked to fit the color palette, anyway - and likely had nothing at all do with anything beyond that.) In Fallout 3, you're going to be seeing the sky for a fair portion of your gameplay time - it's going to have to be tinted to fit in with the rest of the surroundings. I've tried some of the environment mods, and I'm not a fan those - they sky looks a bit too bright and cheery for a world that's supposed to be fairly depressing. (To each their own, though - I'm just supplying my own opinion.)
I think Fellout gets it about right because it makes the wasteland feel like a warm and desolate place; there's even green clouds in the sky from time to time. It's simply a matter of taste though; the green tint doesn't do anything for me.
