I wonder if the mods for Fallout 3 will be able to work on New Vegas from the start / with adjustments.

Just a thought... ;)

Not unthinkable, so long as they don't copypaste content from FO3 to Vegas that isn't supposed to be there.

There's rumor a trailer will be revealed soon. It's on the Vault.

Gamestop has the game coming out in June. Some people say it'll come out in the fall, but that would be the dumbest move as Halo: Reach comes out at around that time.

All I'll say is they better get some damn info about the game out soon. I don't even think it's been confirmed what type of perspective it'll be in.

Dunno, June is pretty damn close to Alpha Protocol's release, so two Obsidian RPGs would be competing with each other. And Halo is a completely different kind of game, why would it even be considered competition? Especially that Halo is just on the Xbox, so it's of no interest to PC and PS3 players.

I wouldn't call Halo an RPG. It wouldn't mean anything to me.

There is no release date for Alpha Protocol. The dates thrown around by stores are just guesswork.

If I had to guess, I'd say that AP will be released sometime during the Spring and New Vegas sometime towards the end of the year or beginning of 2011. Based on absolutely nothing except my gut feeling. :P

I wouldn't expect NV until 2011 or 2012 (just in time for the end of the world).

You don't know if New Vegas will be titan-class. Also, the release date is in 2010. It was in one of the very small articles on the Vault.

Imagine if New Vegas was released at the same time as Modern Warfare 2. That would probably be the case if it were to ship out the same time as Halo: Reach.

About the development time on this game, Obsidian is basically re-using all of Fallout 3's resources from the sounds of it. It wouldn't take long to make a new game if you didn't have to start from scratch.

We don't even know if New Vegas will come with its own GECK - it certainly seems possible that it wouldn't. Even if it does I imagine most mods would need to be rebuilt more than adjusted to get them to work: chances are good that most of the in game art and resources will be newly made for the game which would screw up anything that was constructed with the GECK.

I think that is a reasonable assumption. As far as I can tell, AP is pretty much in the can already, and they are just waiting for SEGA to manage a proper launch for the game. If they played their cards right with NV, they could get it out by the Holiday season.

Rebet was just joking. NV is a multiplatform RPG, and Halo: Reach is an action game that is exclusive to the 360. The fact that Reach is scheduled for the fall is almost entirely irrelevant.

With a short schedule like this, it's almost certain that they are reusing much of the Fallout 3 assets. And didn't JE Sawyer say that they're using the same GECK as the FO3 one?

Dragon Age was released around the same time as Modern Warfare 2. It didn't have any impact on its sales. They're completely different games, I don't see how they're relevant to each other in any way. I play RPGs but I don't play shooters, for example. Many people play shooters but not RPGs. And I don't use the 360 (like many other people) so Halo is entirely irrelevant for me.

I would also bet that they're reusing a lot of stuff. And hehe, Fallout 2 was released the following year after Fallout 1, though I guess things were a bit different in those days.

Still, given that the terrain around Las Vegas is rather different than Washington, there will likely be a fair amount of new stuff.

Well, it's the same situation as with Fallout 2. They were able to release it a year later exactly because it reused most of Fallout 1's assets.

I for one wish that they would reuse everything that can be reused from FO3 and focus all their resources towards gameplay and overall setting & writing (including plot, quests, c&c etc) instead.
However I understand that people today are far less forgiving about recycled looks than 10 years ago, so I wouldn't count on it (and especially if it's expected to compete with the best-selling shooters that are visually & technically far more advanced but offer only a fraction of the content of the simplest RPG)

I don't mind in terms of Fallout 2 but I mean, that game also took place in basically the same area as Fallout 1. Now, I'm not very good at American geography but wouldn't it be hard to pull off the area around Las Vegas using the standard Fallout 3 assets? I have no clue personally but that would be my guess.

I don't really see why RPGs should be expected to compete with shooters.

They have to compete with shooters. It's the choice of the shooter VS the choice of the RPG. If the shooter wins, it's competition to the RPG. :grad:

Yes, it's not that complicated people. I play shooters, and I play RPG's. If Vegas got released at the same time as, let's say Halo Reach. I would be making a choice between the two of them. That would be competition obviously. Of course, I would be choosing Vegas. Also, true to Fallout style, they won't release any info untill closer to the time of release. Watch for it in the summer.

Google Image Search "Mojave Desert Nevada" and you'll get a pretty good idea of the (real-life) landscape.
