Would be cool if they included Hoover Dam as a major town like in Van Buren. It's close enough to Vegas.

Indeed.

And on that note, I hope the handle towns/settlements a bit better than what Fallout 3 did.

The first thing I thought was, isn't that a Japanese suicide ritual and not Chinese.

One important thing to note, apparently some stuff is from van buren you guys say, but if this is true how would they incorporate that stuff because technically isn't van buren not Beth's or Obsidian IP anymore, [/U]I remember a Beth spokesman saying how they were not planing to release the demo of van buren because it was not theirs.[/U]

If some of this stuff is from the canceled van buren then how does that work? I was under the impression that they couldn't use anything from van buren even though Beth bought the franchise.

By this, he likely meant that it was not their work and as such, wouldn't want to put it out there.

This news has got me wondering. Now I want some info, juicy juicy info!

I'm not sure if the Mojave Desert is the best place to look for green places. Even the banks of the Colorado River can be pretty scrubby, and that's pre-apocalypse. :)

Definitely! I could make a very strong argument that the capitol wasteland would indeed be very green 200+ years after the war, but Mojave would still be Mojave. :) NV has that advantage for sure, the environment already looks "Road Warrior-ish".

all of vegas would be like the mojave, wouldnt it? it would take a lot of infrastructure upkeep to keep the dam and any water liines running from the colorado minutely operational..

moisture farms?

Yes I think so myself, but how Obsidian decides to portrait NV will be Excellent I'm sure. I mean were talking about the Fo1 and Fo2 creators here - these folks are pros. :)

Yes, though it was originally called Stateline. It was renamed Primm after Ernest Jay Primm in 1996.

Info coming soon: http://www.oxm.co.uk/viewer.php?mode=article&id=12563

Good news but man, I gotta say I find it rather disrespectful to label it Bethesdas new game. It's Obsidian that's actually developing it for crying out loud. Bad magazine, bad!

Finally. And agreed about labeling the game to Bethesda, but I guess it can be considered a sellingpoint seeing how succesful FO3 was - I dunno.

The screenshot looks like it's from Fallout 3... greenish hue and all . But that's not a concern of mine, Fallout 3 looked pretty good and it's the contents of the game that matter.

This screenie seems to contradict some things that came outta the rumor mill the other day. First off the character has a pipboy and is wearing -correct me if I'm wrong- the armored vault suit. It could be symbolic to relate the Fo3 players to NV but if you're playing a ghoul how can you implement the pipboy interface into that story? Unless you salvage one from the get go somehow. I don't know.

Well i dont know if this is official new or not or if its already bin posted. But im going to post here anyway. Because it sounds realy awsome. And i found this on epicbattleaxe.com. But befor i post it i dont know if its a mistake or if it was relesed intentialy to get atention to the project sins all that BS with Bethesda VS Interplay. Im chearing for Bethesda on that one. Anyway here i go and enjoy the info below!

Fallout: New Vegas Details Leaked? :fallout:

Well here's a cool way to kick off the new year. Computerandvideogames.com has an article up this morning that outlines a few specific and rather juicy rumors surrounding the Obsidian-developed spin-off to Bethesda's popular Fallout franchise, Fallout: New Vegas. Originating from a tipster within the Gamespot UK forums and said to be gleaned from the upcoming issue of Game Informer mag, here are the details as listed in the post:

? Similar to Dragon Age: Origins, at character creation the player can select from different background stories. The first few hours of the game are different depending on which background you choose, and you get some unique perks based on your background when the main game begins.

? One background story is shown, Chinese Agent. The background story takes place before the bombs fell. The player is part of a team of Crimson Dragoons infilitrating Hoover Dam. You manage to sneak through the Americans' defenses, set explosives, and head to an extraction point, but your escape is cut off by American soldiers in Power Armor. The player and other survivors of the Crimson Dragoons take refuge in a cave in the canyons, where they commit hari kari with cyanide capsules. The player about to do the same when the bombs fall. The background story ends an indeterminate time later, when the player exits the cave, removes his helmet, and sees his ghoulish reflection in the waters of the Colorado River.

? The background story segues into character creation. The player can customize the appearance of the ghoul, and you see you start the game with two unique perks. One, similar to the Ghoul Mask in Fallout 3, makes Feral Ghouls non-aggro. The other makes the player immune to radiation sickness and allows the player to discharge accumulated radiation in a blast similar to a Glowing Ghoul, healing the player and any mutants while damaging all non-mutants in range.

? By default, the Chinese Agent has the skills Sneak, Small Arms, and Explosives tagged and SPECIAL stats set, although the player can modify their tagged skills and stats if they don't like the template.

? One character background option is Lone Wanderer. This selection has no background story or template and is a complete blank slate for players.

? The SPECIAL system used will be similar to Fallout 3, but skills will be harder to cap and one character will not be able to become a master of all skills. The article is not very specific because apparently it's something the developers are still tweaking.

? Gambling will return, but not as a skill. Your Luck stat will effect gambling results. You can attempt to cheat at cards using your Sneak skill or hack slot machines using your Science skill.

? There will be vehicles. The desert of New Vegas dwarfs the Capital Wasteland and you will need transportation to get around and explore it. You will acquire a vehicle several hours into the main quest. You can customize your vehicle with parts bought at shops or won through racing circuits and quests. Vehicles will not be common, but you will encounter road gangs, merchant caravans, and other vehicles in the wastes. The open desert is home to some very large mutant creatures, like giant radscorpions and sandworms, that will attack your vehicle.

? New Vegas has a coliseum run by a slaver gang called the Caesar's Legion. You can gamble on and participate in arena fights.

Of course, none of these details are confirmed by anyone involved with the project, but we'll keep you posted as soon as we know more. Now, discuss the above below and let us know what you think

Bah, they can still change it for the actual cover next month. This is just the teaser. Like someone said, it's not even a New Vegas screenshot!

It probebly is fake info like you sed. But real or not i still think it sounded awsome based on that i posted. I whoulend mind playing a ghoul btw. And i thought i whould post it here anyway reguardles of it being real or not. I think most stuff we hear about Fallout New Vegas will be rumors or fake stuff. I dont think there is mutch at all to read or se about that game. I dont even know if its in alpha build yet. But one thing made me think. You know all thos Chinese Ghouls you have found in pre-war military uniform alive and as corps? Anyway i have and based on that i read about the Chinese Ghoul oregins it COULD be posibel that the hoax as you say isent a hoax. Time will tell. Just take a look in Fallout 3 and you will find Ghouls with Chinese uniform on them. There are lots of them in a cementary some ware in the DC ruins if you know whare that is. I forgot. Whare you find that "junder plunket" character and kill him to bring the finger to the Rangers or whatever thay are caled. Anyway real or fake info only time will tell. But im lookin forward to that game just because i love the Fallout games. And you cant blame some one for wanting to share info with other Fallout fans. Anyway now im of to bed so Good Night
