Fallout: New Vegas Official Thread #13

Sounds pretty plausible to me. Doesn't sound like it was written by a Fallout 3 fan nor by a Fallout 1/2 fan. If anything, it sounds as if a Fallout 3 fan was reporting ideas made up by an old school fan, which is exactly what real FNV info would sound like.

If these rumors bear truth, the addition of Really workable vehicles will be one of the most memorable things about NV versus Fo3 - vehicles were a major defecit in the game. Saying the desert will dwarf the capital wasteland seems plausible as creating desert is infinitely easier than creating mountain, hilly terrain full of trees, rocks, etc, etc - though this may come accross as Bland if not done correctly.

Cool rumors all. :)

Even if just a rumor, it doesn't sound bad. Only the ghoul radiation blast rubs me the wrong way, and I hope SPECIAL isn't 1:1 with Fallout 3.

The addition of vehicles seems plausible if the NV wasteland indeed does dwarf CW.

Anyways, I'll just wait the info straight from the horses mouth...

If this is true I'll be disappointed if there's no "Master's Army Remnant" background story that lets you play as one of the Master's former Super Mutants.

The SPECIAL system used will be similar to Fallout 3, but skills will be harder to cap and one character will not be able to become a master of all skills. The article is not very specific because apparently it's something the developers are still tweaking.

Would that rule out traits making a comeback?

No, why would it? If anything it makes the return of traits more likely.

Hope so.

I like what I see so far (if it's real anyway), though I hope news of a complete re-working of vats will come of it.

I like VATS, I just hope they fix the issues with it that we have struggled with since .15 - but in general I love the way VATS throws tons of camera angles at the action, one of Fo3's more unique features IMHO.

I dunno it sounds plausible to me. I mean some of the things are very specifically defined like:

where they commit hari kari with cyanide capsules

Gambling will return, but not as a skill. Your Luck stat will effect gambling results. You can attempt to cheat at cards using your Sneak skill or hack slot machines using your Science skill.

Vehicles will not be common,

New Vegas has a coliseum run by a slaver gang called the Caesar's Legion.

They don't seem contrived they seem specified. Or whoever leaked is a proper schizo =)

God, I love the internet sometimes.

(I'll post something with substance someday, I promise!)

The more I read the "rumor" the more fishy it starts to sound, especiallly now after that dev post from Obsidian forum. But then again....

It must be a conspiracy!

http://hellforge.gameriot.com/blogs/Hellforge/Leaked-First-Details-of-Fallout-New-Vegas is a little fuel for the speculation firev".

"Update: Bethesda's Jason Bergman, senior producer of Fallout: New Vegas posted a tweet several hours ago stating, "Feels good to be back in the office for actual work. 2010. Woo! Look for details on Fallout: New Vegas in the not-too-distant-future," perhaps hinting at the validity of the leak."

Speaking to Ausir of The Vault, he said to me, "If it's fake, I gotta congratulate the guy."
My thoughts exactly.

The first thing I thought was, isn't that a Japanese suicide ritual and not Chinese.

One important thing to note, apparently some stuff is from van buren you guys say, but if this is true how would they incorporate that stuff because technically isn't van buren not Beth's or Obsidian IP anymore, I remember a Beth spokesman saying how they were not planing to release the demo of van buren because it was not theirs.

If some of this stuff is from the canceled van buren then how does that work? I was under the impression that they couldn't use anything from van buren even though Beth bought the franchise.

Well the hari kari thing could have been a mistake on the part of the person who leaked the information; not a strong argument for the information being fake.

What is a strong argument is Game Informer's denial, but of course that may just be them keeping a lid on it until the magazine is actually released. We won't know until it's out.

They can use background and fluff elements, I don't think there is a problem for those. What is not theirs is work already done on Van Buren, technically speaking, the world and background are entirely the property of Bethesda.

Van Buren is owned by Bethesda. They even put some references to it in FO3, including the Chinese stealth armor.

I'm also not certainly what would be left if Bethesda could use the Van Buren background, fluff, and world but not the "work." I suppose the actual game code but then it's not like Bethesda has plans to use that anyway (even though they could if they wanted to).

As for this potential leak, the format is very similar to the early Fallout 3 previews . . . although I suppose that could just as well be a strike against its authenticity as for it. :) I'd love to play as a ghoul so I'm certainly hoping this is real (or if not that's in the game anyways). I don't really care about vehicles but if the game does have expansive (and largely empty) areas to travel through I'm sure I'll appreciate them.

Which svcks because I got really hyped with the chance of seeing the hoover dam (along with other VB settings) implemented in NV.

Hard to say really - I would add that the New Vegas team is putting this together in Very short time-frames with a much smaller team than Bethesda had going into Fo3. I would not at all be surprised if some of the model and texture assets weren't used. Obsidian could seriously "boost" it's development progress by incorporating assets that will never be used in another game anyway. Like Hungry Donner, I somehow doubt that the code would be used as Bethesda as clearly demonstrated its dominance in this area (GOTY, and Obsidian did opt to use Bethesda's engine - which says something about how good the Fo3 engine really is IMHO). Who can say, but if I were working NV, I would be pushing for this very thing - as alot of people will really enjoy it.

Playing FO3 and its expansions now on ps3 I can say that the graphics look a bit dated. I'm not sayin they're bad but the texture quality and perhaps the draw distance (hell the framerate too while at it! :P) could be a bit better and I wonder if they're making any improvements at all for the graphics.

All this new information sounds very interesting and kudosto the creator if it's all fiction!

I hope a teaser or something is released soon.

So far I want:

Non Disappointing version of Oasis perhaps Green places have started appearing around the Wasteland

Paradise Falls was interesting but never felt real enough etc(I felt the Pitt improved the feel)

More thriving cities: Rivet City and Megaton were nice but the wasteland felt empty quite a lot.

    Tighter plot

I'm not sure if the Mojave Desert is the best place to look for green places. Even the banks of the Colorado River can be pretty scrubby, and that's pre-apocalypse. :)
